The 96th Academy Awards ceremony should be known as the Cannes Oscars, argues Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Frémaux.
He’s got a point.
Frémaux sipped a cocktail at the Charles Finch and Chanel Annual Pre-Oscar Dinner in the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, and ticked off Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall and Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest as films that played and won the top prizes at last May’s festival.
Michael Barker, Sony Picture Classics co-chair, helped Frémaux out by adding in Martin Scorsese’s The Killers of the Flower Moon, which also premiered on the Croisette.
“Here we are in March, and the top winners at last year’s Cannes are still in the conversation, and are here at the Oscars,” says Frémaux, giving himself a pat on the back.

CAA Talent Agent Josh Lieberman Buys Paul R. Williams-Designed Brentwood Mansion, Lists 90210 Estate
Pioneering Black architect Paul R. Williams — a favorite of Golden Age Hollywood elite and other assorted jetsetters — designed this stately 1930s manor for opera singer-actress Grace Moore and her husband, Spanish actor Valentín Parera. But the couple ultimately became disenchanted with Hollywood, fled the city and never actually lived in the Brentwood house — legendary actor Tyrone Power and his French wife Annabella were its first occupants, having bought the place soon after it was built, according to the Paul R. Williams Project. This is one of two Williams-designed houses owned by Power; the actor apparently loved the Brentwood digs so much that he commissioned the architect to design him a custom Bel Air residence in the late 1940s.

The Duchess, the comedy from British-based comedian Katherine Ryan, has been cancelled by Netflix after one season.
The six-part series launched in September 2020 but will not return. It is centered around the powerful and problematic choices of a fashionably disruptive single mom living in London. Her daughter, Olive, is her greatest love so she debates a second child with her greatest enemy — Olive’s dad.
Ryan revealed the news on Vicky Pattison’s The Secret To… podcast. “[Netflix] didn’t want to make any more, not enough people watched it. I think something like 10 million people watched it in 28 days and that wasn’t enough,” she said. “But also, I’m not terribly sad about it. I feel like it’s a whole lot of work, a whole lot of time to make a sitcom. I was so grateful to able to make it, but I think it speaks for itself.

Actor criticised for attending Chechen leader's party severs ties with senior members of management team
The actor Hilary Swank has sacked her manager of eight years and most of her management team in the wake of her decision to appear at a lavish concert for the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov earlier this month.
The two-time Oscar winner and prominent Hollywood liberal was forced to apologise publicly for taking part following criticism from human rights groups. Swank said she was unaware of the allegations against her host.
The first casualty of the affair was Swank's manager, Jason Weinberg, who was fired last week. It was Weinberg, whom Swank thanked in her best actress Oscar acceptance speech for Million Dollar Baby in 2005, who apparently made the decision to email the New York-based Human Rights Foundation, which had expressed concern over Swank's involvement with Kadyrov.

I’ve confirmed that the actress has axed her manager of 8 years Jason Weinberg, the founding partner of Untitled Entertainment whom she thanked in her 2005 speech for winning the Best Actress Oscar for Million Dollar Baby. The firing was first reported today by the UK’s The Independent On Sunday newspaper. It writes that Swank also is removing CAA agents Amie Yavor and Josh Lieberman from her team and is upset with the tenpercentery’s Lauren Hale as well. But the paper says Swank is not exiting CAA where her partner of five years, John Campisi, is an agent. So what’s the reason? The horrible publicity which Swank received after human rights organizations outed that she’d accepted a fat fee to walk the Red Carpet and make a speech and give greetings to Chechnya’s tyrannical president Ramzan Kadyrov at his birthday party earlier this month even though...
