Before his career as a novelist and screenwriter, Livingston was a fighter pilot. He was one of the founding members of the Israeli Air Force, and he was instrumental in ensuring Israel's victory during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
Livingston has written seven published novels.
He was the son of Beatrice and Myron Livingston. His paternal grandparents were Russian Jewish immigrants. His maternal grandparents were Austrian Jews.
