Bless you, direct-to-dvd industry, for churning out endlessly amusing extensions of movies that never should have been franchises in the first place. An EW staffer casually mentioned the third Ace Ventura movie earlier today, inspiring a group of us to reminisce about the most random sequels we could think of — sequels many of us were hearing about for the first time.
And so, in honor of both these little-discussed gems and the gift that is Friday afternoon, here’s a list of the genre’s most unassuming entries. Caution: It’s about to get all nostalgic up in here. (Like that’s a surprise.

"If you figure a way to live without serving a master, any master, then let the rest of us know, will you? For you'd be the first person in the history of the world." – Philip Seymour Hoffman, 'The Master'
Greetings from the apocalypse! This week finds me once again walking down memory lane as I recall two new movies I visited the sets of and, as usual, childhood traumas. Do those traumas involve giants? Do I seek the therapy I so desperately need? Read on …

Okay, so in case you haven't heard already, "21 and Over" is basically the same movie as "The Hangover," as evidenced by our informative chart. I had the honor of touring the set of this raunchy sex/alcohol poisoning comedy in Seattle around 2011 or so (I can't quite remember for some reason) and got to watch Justin Chon ride a mechanical buffalo while projectile vomiting.

Bleeding Cool has posted the trailer for The Witches of Oz. The film (which appears to be a sequel of sorts to the original The Wizard of Oz story) is directed by one Leigh Scott, a veteran filmmaker from Hollywood knock-off masters Asylum. Transmorphers is amongst the number of features he’s made for the company (no prizes for guessing which franchise was being paid “homage” to there) .
Wonder if Oz is any good? It looks well shot and the effects work appears to be more than adequate for this type of low-budget fantasy flick. This has been produced by an independent company called MarVista Entertainment Inc, who seem to have a little more money then Asylum, as the ensemble cast proves. B-movie regulars like Christopher Lloyd, Lance Henrikson and Jeffrey Combs are all present and correct, and it’s also a shrewd move on the company’s behalf to...

Are you bored of the same old TV shows? Tired of the mainstream? Then check out this round-up of alternative movies and series showing on UK television tonight…
8.00pm Haunted (Horror Channel)
Following the abduction of his son, Frank Taylor (Lost’s Matthew Fox) is sent to investigate another case of child abduction and is seriously injured whilst trying to apprehend the suspect. On recovering, he discovers that he can receive messages from kindly spirits, but the malevolent presence of the dead suspect plagues him. Season One, episode 13.
9.00pm Jake 2.0 (CBS Action)
Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) is Jake Foley, a very ordinary technician who becomes a superhero when a ‘computer virus’ infects him. Do not miss one of my favourite sci-fi adventure shows of recent years. Season One, episode 12.
10.00pm Bloodlust: Subspecies III (Horror Channel)
Fang-filled third installment of the Subspecies saga. Radu’s mother revives him from beyond the grave,...

Regular Shock reader and friend Jared passed along this video that gave us a laugh. We post it because it involves horror genre vet Lance Henriksen, who we love. Here he's on the set of the upcoming The Witches of Oz attempting to do a simple take involving a phone call and a pesky cat. The cat isn't exactly grooving to being held by Lance. Witches is directed by Leigh Scott who directed Flu Birds and the Asylum knock-off Transmorphers . Paulie Rojas, Christopher Lloyd and Jason Mewes co-star.

Because the Super Bowl isn’t really over until we’ve analyzed it to death, we’ve got about a week to go. But since I don’t care about the game itself, I’ll stick with pop culture. For example, here’s a detailed story of how the Leno/Oprah/Letterman commercial happened.
In other Super Bowl news, the broadcast was the most watched television program in the history of television programs. It even eclipsed the finale of M*A*S*H which had held the title since I was a kid, and the urban legend was that when it was over, the collective run to the bathroom caused flooding in some urban areas. It’s estimated that 106.5 million people tuned in.
There’s a really Lost-esque analysis of Willie Adama on Caprica over here. I’ve never paid close enough attention to any show to have noticed this stuff,...
