A live-action film franchise, based on the "Almythea" books by A. J. Cootes, continues in development with cinematographer Bruce Logan ("Tron") attached to direct for Rio Vista Universal, Porchlight Entertainment Worldwide and Priscilla Presley:
"...for centuries, 'Almythea' has been ruled by the tyrannical alien overlord 'The Lost One' and his duplicitous, strangely seductive, sinister lieutenant, 'Raven Weaver'. The once peaceful planet, now enslaved, wastes away as it is mined and stripped of rare refractive crystals.
"When 'Little Hawk', a young warrior, confesses to a crime he didn't commit to protect 'Broken Arrows', the woman he secretly loves, he is exiled to the 'Badlands'. Formidable creatures force him to battle not only for his life but also against his inner demons. On the brink of death, Little Hawk encounters the mysterious and rebellious shaman, 'Grey Paw' – changing the course of Almythea's future.

Most people smile just at the mention of this show … nothing is more healthy than an old fashioned laugh. Zucker, Zucker & Abrahams’ non-stop joke fest finds good fun in movie spoofery without malice, and is populated by a squadron of old pros that once made the originals fly right, no matter how clunky they were. All hail Leslie Nielsen, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack and Peter Graves, the veterans of countless ‘keep a straight face and pretend it’s serious’ groaners. It’s a 40th Anniversary new restoration. Now, finally, do I park in the red zone or the white zone?

While he may be best known for his low-budget, science fiction pictures, nothing truly says Roger Corman or his New World Pictures brand quite like the prison, or in the case of both Jackson County Jail and Caged Heat, women-in-prison, film.
Paired together in a brand new addition to Shout! Factory’s long running DVD line known as Roger Corman’s Cult Classics, the two cult features have finally seen the light of day in a relatively respectable single DVD set, that while the films themselves may not be perfect, they are unlike anything you’ll ever get a chance to check out.
The real star of the set here is the cult classic, Caged Heat. Directed by Jonathan Demme (Something Wild), the film follows Jacqueline Wilson, who is sent to a women’s prison following a conviction on drug charges. Joining a crew of fellow inmates, the team fights against the warden,...

Attempting to keep up with all the film events in Los Angeles is an exercise in futility. There's simply too much going on all at once, all over town. But every once in a while a few pieces of news hit at once and that's why we created /Film La. Here's what we've got. The original 1982 Tron is screening March 5 at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica with writer/director Steven Lisberger and more in attendance. As an added bonus, it'll be in 70mm. My favorite and probably the best theater chain in all of Los Angeles, Arclight Cinemas, just released their first iPhone application. Disney has finally set the official opening date for the Disneyland opening of the brand new Star Tours: The Adventures Continue: June 3. Also opening that day is an all-new Little Mermaid ride. In case you missed it [1], Quentin Tarantino is taking over his New Beverly...

The Flicks:
Big Bad Mama (1974): Angie Dickinson stars as Wilma McClatchie in this Bonnie & Clyde style shoot ‘em up set in Texas in 1932. After breaking up her young daughter’s wedding and finding out that bootlegging is harder than it seems, Wilma takes her two teenage daughters on the road and decides that they deserve a better life. After a chance encounter with a bank robber (a likeable Tom Skerritt), Wilma decides that ripping off banks is her ticket to the big time. With the help of a suave gambler (William Shatner, appropriately hammy) the gang sets out for bigger and bigger scores; including banks, an oil field robbery and even kidnapping a wealthy heiress. All while staying just one step ahead of the authorities.
This is a very solid Depression era road movie. It has everything you’d expect from a 70’s cult classic: car chases, shootouts, blood and bare breasts galore.
