Here’s the first trailer for Universal and Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me spinoff starring the word-challenged yellow folks who “all share the same goal: to serve the most despicable master around.” Their well-intentioned bumbling leads to the demise of dinosaurs, Napoleon, Dracula and others, until Kevin, Stuart and Bob help the Minions discover their real purpose — and end up in 1968 New York. The voice cast includes a few folks you might have heard of: Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney and Steve Coogan. Directed by Dm and DM2 helmer Pierre Coffin and written by Bryan Lynch, the Illumination Entertainment pic saunters into theaters July 10.

Deadline reports that the 1985 sci-fi comedy Weird Science will get a remake.
The first film followed two nerds (Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith) who create a beautiful lady (Kelly LeBrock), only to realize that she is more than a object.
The script will be written by Michael Bacall (Project X, 21 Jump Street).
The new film is aiming for an edgier vibe, though it is uncertain if the movie will be R-rated.
Twitter user Bryan Lynch had an interesting idea for the remake that the studio should steal.
The Weird Science remake should be two nerdy girls making Channing Tatum.

One of the funniest things about Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me has got to be the pill-shaped, diminutive Minions of Groo’s laboratory army. They have taken on a life of their own with an upcoming spinoff film based on The Minions themselves.
According to Deadline, the untitled Minion movie is slated for release sometime in 2014. The spinoff will focus “on the antics of the yellow fellows as they interact with human characters.” Bryan Lynch has a script ready and Pierre Coffin is returning to direct with Kyle Balda (The Lorax) co-directing and Chris Renaud moving into the executive producer role.
This spinoff is not to be confused with Despicable Me 2 that is currently in production. That sequel is slated to hit theaters July 3, 2013. The Minions have been very popular on Facebook and in the digital ‘verse since the 2010 Despicable Me release and even inspired a newly opened 3D...

Whosoever holds this movie ticket, if he be worthy, shall see the power of "Thor." Moviegoers nationwide are getting ready for Marvel Studios' next big superhero endeavor, out in theaters today, and the fans lurking about Hollywood are coming out of the woodwork as well.
In other news, last night's episode of "Community" thrust the gang back into the middle of paintball warfare, though one "Lost" star is taking the game a bit too seriously. In case you missed the ep, one of the show's actresses has you covered. Plus, find out how some of your favorite stars partied down on Cinco de Mayo yesterday!
I'm @roundhoward and this is Twitter-Wood for May 6, 2011.
"Thor"-gasms, Part 1: @ThatKevinSmith Via @ToastedSchizo "Catching Thor this weekend?" A muscle-bear top like Thor? Safe to say I'll be catching Thor, yeah. Taking him, really...
-Kevin Smith, director ("Clerks," "Red State")
"Thor"-gasms, Part 2: @ManMadeMoon Tights?...

Tweeters in the comics world had sequels on their mind today. Mark Millar projected how long it will be before he's able to wrap up "Kick-Ass 2," while Bryan Lynch made an ingenius pitch to the twittersphere for a new "Kid and Play" film. Meanwhile, Gail Simone doesn't seem to be eager to see a new "Bill and Ted" flick.
In other posting, Rob Liefeld pumped some positivity toward Damon Lindelof with a defense of the "Lost" ending. His thoughts and an appraisal of webcomics by his fellow Image founder Erik Larsen can be seen down below.

A new, censored edition of Mark Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" got classic literature fans speaking their minds on Twitter this week; that crowd includes Kurt Busiek, who stepped up to his account with a few suggestions for the book's publisher.
In Marvel's news, Axel Alonso and Tom Brevoort's editorial promotions got a lot of attention yesterday. Brevoort would prefer that everyone focus on his colleague, though, and said as much in a post. Joe Quesada, meanwhile, seems to be just as busy as ever. Find out why after the jump, along with who wants you to know that it's okay to crying during "The Iron Giant" and who's denying responsibility for all of those dead birds in Arkansas.

Dead birds pt. 1: @BrianLynch Were the blackbirds wearing little purple Nikes? Because I think that would be telling/adorable.

The cast of Easter Bunny comedy I Hop has just increased by one: Elizabeth Perkins has signed on.Perkins has been appearing for five years on comedy drama Weeds, but has now decided to leave the show. And her first movie since moving on is this live action/CG blend comedy, which sees a slacker (James Marsden) accidentally running over the Easter Bunny’s son (voiced by Russell Brand). Because this is the sort of high concept comedy where it happens, he has to take over the rabbit’s seasonal duty to save Easter for all the kiddies. To be honest, we’re having trouble getting excited for this one – despite some decent casting (including The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco and Perkins as Marsden's mother), it sounds like another version of The Santa Clause with a different holiday.Still, co-writer Bryan Lynch has been tweeting from the set and he’s pretty amusing,...
