Chris Carter has announced there will be a reboot ofThe X-Files – but without its lead stars.
Seven years after the revival series aired on Fox, the series is returning. This is unlikely to be a surprise for fans, considering the show’s impressive viewing ratings.
Speaking toThe Hollywood Reporter at the time, Carter said: “There’s an appetite for more in the future – it’s just a matter of figuring out how to get it done.”
It turns out Carter’s way of getting this particular reboot off the ground is to hand the reins over to somebody else entirely – namely Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.
On Monday (27 March), speaking on podcast On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko, Carter said: “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast.
“So, he’s got his work cut out for him...

Carter dropped Coogler’s name during an interview this week on the CBC radio show On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko. The X-Files hasn’t aired a new episode since its 11th season in 2018, but according to creator Chris Carter, there could be a project in the works from Black Panther and Creed director Ryan Coogler. In a conversation with On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko, Carter hinted that Coogler might be involved with the franchise’s future. “I just spoke to a young man… Ryan Coogler… who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast,” Carter said. “So he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.” As of 2020, Carter was set to produce an animated spinoff comedy series called The X-Files: Albuquerque for Fox, Bloody Disgusting pointed out, initially breaking the report. The show would follow a team of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too bizarre for Mulder and Scully to handle, according to TV Line. The series had a...

If you’re a person of a certain age, you are probably well aware of the cultural impact that “The X-Files” had during the ‘90s. Everywhere you looked, there was Mulder and Scully and the phrase, “The truth is out there.” Well, it appears that “The X-Files” might be making a return thanks to none other than Ryan Coogler. Yes, that Ryan Coogler.

Break out your sunflower seeds and "I Want To Believe" posters: The X-Files are due to be reopened again. According to original series creator Chris Carter, who appeared on CBC's "On The Coast" this week to talk about the show (in a story picked up by Bloody Disgusting), there's a revival of "The X-Files" in the works -- with none other than "Creed" and "Black Panther" writer-director Ryan Coogler leading the charge.
"I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount 'The X-Files' with a diverse cast," Carter told host Gloria Macarenko in a retrospective segment about the series. While Carter didn't share other details about what sounds like either a reboot or legacy sequel series in development (the interview was largely about the show's Vancouver filming locations), he did add that Coogler has "got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.

It’s now been five years since “The X-Files” wrapped up its unexpected tenth and eleventh seasons, but where does the franchise go from here? Last we heard back in 2020, the franchise’s next evolution will come courtesy of “The X-Files: Albuquerque,” an animated spinoff comedy series that “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter was attached to produce for Fox.
TV Line had explained in 2020, “The potential series will center an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re essentially the X-Files’ B-team.”
The project had been given a script commitment, with Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko (“Paradise Pd”) attached to write the pilot episode and executive produce.
Now in a new chat with On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko, Carter teases what sounds like an entirely different upcoming project… from Ryan Coogler?!
