"Nothing is as it seems. And the truth will be revealed." Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for the US remake of the film titled Longing, which was originally an Israeli film from filmmaker Savi Gabizon (aka Savi Gavison). The film is a direct remake of his own 2017 film also called Longing (or Ga'agua), and it is once again written and directed by Gabizon this time. A business mogul named Daniel Bloch runs into his old small town girlfriend from 20 years ago while she is visiting the big city only to find out that they had a child together that he was unaware of, but has since died. This remake is set to open in the US in June this summer. Starring Richard Gere as Daniel, with Diane Kruger, Suzanne Clément, Marnie McPhail, Jessica Clement, Tomaso Sanelli, and Shauna MacDonald. This trailer reveals almost the entire plot though that doesn't help much,...

“I’m an English teacher, not fucking Tomb Raider.”
What does it mean to be a strong woman? Is it visible muscles à la Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2: Judgment Day? Is it impressive feats of strength like climbing a mountain or braving white water? Is it putting yourself in harm’s way to save a friend? As it turns out, the answer is all–and none–of the above. There is no one way to be a “strong woman.” Sometimes it’s as simple as just showing up for the hard moments. Writer/director Neil Marshall explores the concept of female strength in his 2005 The Descent, a harrowing story of friendship and betrayal, strength and survival. In their latest episode, the Lady Killers kick off a series on Hidden Horrors by descending into the complicated themes of this terrifying film and facing off against the monsters lurking within the human heart.

"Six women go spelunking" doesn't necessarily read as a great logline for a horror movie, but Neil Marshall's "The Descent" takes that premise and crafts an unforgettable exercise in terror. As the saying goes, it's a B-movie with A+ filmmaking.
Being trapped underground combines two common fears, confinement and darkness, and in "The Descent," the heavy shadows only reinforce the claustrophobia. Marshall and his cinematographer Sam McCurdy chose to light the film's sets (a facsimile of a real cave system built and shot at Pinewood Studios) primarily with the characters' flashlights. Even color choices — some frames are filtered entirely red or green — are used diegetically from those lights or flares.
As the characters get deeper and deeper into the cave, darkness subsumes each and every frame. It needs to, for the whole reason a cave is a scary setting is because of what you can't see. And yet, Marshall...

The often long and convoluted process of developing a movie also frequently involves story changes along the way. Multiple writers and multiple drafts are common to try to nail that perfect narrative, and even then, the final film remains subject to change. Some say the film is truly found in the editing room but even after that, the studio and test audiences may force a re-think. Directors and writers hate being told to change their stories but the alterations aren't always for the worse -- in some cases, the audience's instinct proves correct for posterity.
For the films listed below, the theatrically released version differs from the one previously intended at some point in the process. Sometimes the change turned out for the best artistically, while other times it simply enabled a sequel or tried to avoid depressing the audience. Thanks to the DVD era, many of the alternate endings can be viewed,...

Back then, no one was expecting The Descent to go on and become one of the most widely acclaimed horror films of the decade. Even today, Neil Marshall’s second creature-feature (the first being Dog Soldiers) remains a favorite among audiences and critics everywhere. This iconic film defies those expectations based on its cast and pitch — not a man in sight as six women battle a clan of cave-dwelling monsters — and then delivers a thoughtful study of friendships, grief, and survival.
So when a sequel was announced, fans’ curiosity and anticipation turned into nervousness once it was revealed that Marshall was neither directing nor writing the follow-up. Instead, the first film’s editor, Jon Harris, was promoted to director, and the script was handled by James McCarthy, J Blakeson, and James Watkins. Eva Vik’s short film Serpentine, starring supermodel Barbara Palvin, will make its European premiere at the 69th edition of Italy’s Taormina Film Festival, running from June 23 to July 1. Czech writer and director Eva Vik explores the possibilities of interspecies development in the film, which was previously nominated for the X Award at the Tribeca Film Festival. Though moviegoers and filmmakers alike may sometimes think of Hollywood as a purveyor of art and entertainment, the industry is, above all, a business. This means that the bottom line is of the utmost importance to studio executives, which, unfortunately, sometimes leads to decisions that don't produce a favorable outcome for viewers. Case in point: movie sequels. When a film is a hit, producers start itching to replicate its success, and sequels are seen as the best way to do that. However, not all follow-ups are made equal, and things sometimes get left behind in the rush to generate another box office smash.

The examples we've compiled below are sequels that completely ignore the previous installment(s) in the series, much to the consternation of dedicated fans. In some cases, re-writing...

This article contains spoilers for "Poker Face."
The penultimate episode of "Poker Face" season 1, "Escape From S*** Mountain," saw our favorite lie-detector Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) avenge three murders and narrowly escape an early grave herself.
This episode is also the third and final episode that creator Rian Johnson personally directed this season. Johnson wears his filmmaking influences on his sleeve, like how "The Last Jedi" includes a casino-set crane shot homaging 1927 silent classic "Wings." Johnson is also the first director to get a "Vertigo" dolly-zoom into a "Star Wars" movie. "Brick" and The Benoit Blanc series are loving homages to mystery fiction of all sorts, and eagle-eyed viewers of "Knives Out" might have noticed a sly reference to Anthony Shaffer's "Sleuth."

Shetland’s Series 7 return is a bittersweet one for fans of the Scottish BBC crime drama. The six-episode run will be actor Douglas Henshall’s last in the lead role of Di Jimmy Perez. Henshall’s departure though, doesn’t mean the end for Shetland, which has been renewed for an eighth series due to arrive in 2023. A new, as-yet-unannounced, lead actor will be joining the returning cast for that run.
Series 7, which starts on BBC One on Wednesday the 10th of August at 9pm, promises to tie up Perez’s loose ends and follow up on last series’ will-they-won’t-they frisson with Irish carer Meg. Before Perez says his final goodbye to the evidence board though, there’s a missing person case to solve, and a host of new characters to interrogate. Here’s who he’ll be meeting…

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Season 6, Episode 5 of Outlander, “Give Me Liberty.”] In Outlander‘s latest Season 6 installment, “Give Me Liberty,” a surprise time traveler is introduced in Wilmington during Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) visit to the North Carolina town. But the reality of this time traveler isn’t as clear as Claire’s path of leading a life in 18th-century America because we never see their face. The individual is first mentioned while the Frasers attend a party for political figure Flora MacDonald (Shauna Macdonald) who claims that a thief tried stealing her necklace, but despite having recovered the piece of jewelry, it was missing one of its gemstones. Anyone that knows anything about time travel on Outlander understands that gemstones are required to jump through time. The mention of a missing gemstone certainly would interest viewers, but might seem inconsequential to the characters living in the moment. (Credit: Starz) Yet, as Claire...

You star in a new British supernatural horror film, The Heiress. Tell us how you got the part and what is was about the script that appealed to you.
I was contacted early on the process by the director Chris Bell who’d had me in mind as an option for Claire. I read an early draft of the script and absolutely loved the part, it’s rare for me to be scared by horror but the script alone conjured such vivid imagery that I was haunted by it, I knew it would work. When The Heiress was ready to go, I was offered the role of Claire, I couldn’t wait to get my teeth into it.

White Chamber is a surprisingly clever sci-fi film from writer director Paul Raschid, who despite confining most of the action around a sealed boxed room, manages to build a tense atmosphere filled with several twists and drama.
During the initial events in the film it looks as though the action is going to be confined in the one room, creating a similar claustrophobic feel to films such as Cube (1997). We are introduced to a woman who wakes up inside a room called the white chamber. A highly sophisticated boxed cell in which the environment can be manipulated at the touch of a screen. Such as increasing the temperature to an unbearable dry heat or decreasing it to a freezing point below zero – as well as some additional unexpected surprises.
Whatever the initial purpose of developing the chamber, the first 20 minutes of the film are focused on Ruth (Amrita Acharia) who...

Starring Shauna MacDonald (The Descent) and Oded Fehr, White Chamber is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on May 21st from Dark Sky Films:
"The United Kingdom in the near future. Civil war rages, and martial law has been declared by a military government hellbent on squashing the opposition. A woman wakes up in a blindingly white cuboid cell, where General Zakarian (Oded Fehr) uses increasingly sophisticated and cruel methods to torture her for information - information she claims not to have. As questions of trust are placed both on captor and captive, they find themselves embroiled in an increasingly spiraling journey into the nature of authority.
Tense, shocking, and all-too relevant, White Chamber poses the question: can there even be such a thing as certainty in these most uncertain of times?

This film begins with Shauna Macdonald as ‘Ruth’ trapped in a bright white cuboid with no means of escape. An unseen tormentor with a booming genderless voice commands ‘Ruth’ to do various things and she must obey. To the audience she is merely Ruth the Admin Girl with no clue as to what’s happening or where she is – just that she’s afraid and just wants to make peace with her captor and go home. But as the story of the White Chamber unfolds and we move back in time to 5 days prior to her capture, we see a completely different story to who ‘Ruth’ might actually be and what work is done in the White Chamber.

Even though everyone is pretty much amped that Pennywise and the newest adaptation of It are making their home entertainment debuts this Tuesday, we also have more great Blu-rays and DVD releases to look forward to as well. It’s a big week for Troma, as not only their latest feature, Hectic Knife, comes home on Blu this week, but Troma alum Trent Haaga’s wickedly wild crime caper 68 Kill is being released by Scream Factory and IFC Midnight.
Arrow Academy has put together a Special Edition release of The Witches, and a film that I really enjoyed out of Sundance 2017—Bad Day for the Cut—gets released this week via the fine folks over at Well Go USA. Other notable releases for January 9th include Friend Request and Nails.

Dark Sky Films is set to release Dennis Bartok’s directorial debut, Nails, today on VOD, which features The Descent’s Shauna Macdonald doing battle with an evil entity that is stalking her in the hospital after she’s been laid up following a horrific accident that leaves her trapped in her own bed, unable to communicate with the outside world. Daily Dead recently spoke to Bartok about the project, and he discussed how his own experiences inspired the story of Nails, what it was like to collaborate with Macdonald, and more.
Great to speak with you, Dennis. Nails almost feels like a fairy tale meets an X-Files episode, particularly this character of Donnie Pfaster, who was this guy who collected fingernails. I just thought it was kind of interesting the way that you rounded out the mythology of the character of Nails with that, and then it all played...

In our creepy exclusive clip from Dennis Bartok's Nails, the room fills up with dread and then something happens ... well, I'll just stick with "creepy" as a descriptor, but I really like what it did to me. Described as a psychological horror film, Nails "centers on Dana Milgrom (Shauna Macdonald, Filth, Moon Dogs)," according to the official description. She's "a track coach and mother who has survived a near-death car accident, only to find herself paralyzed and trapped inside her own body. While struggling to regain control of her life, Dana is confronted with a vindictive spirit; a terrifying presence called Nails, whom she is convinced exists inside her hospital room. "Faced with skepticism from her husband, doctors and the staff, and believed to...

"I hear you're having some issues... Want to talk about it?" Kaleidoscope has debuted an official trailer for a horror thriller titled Nails, about a woman who wakes up in the hospital after a brutal car accident. She discovers that she is paralyzed and trapped inside her own body. Forced to communicate with an artificial voice program and hooked to a breathing machine, she becomes convinced that a terrifying presence called Nails exists inside her hospital room, and attempts to convince everyone that he wants to kill her. Shauna Macdonald stars, along with Ross Noble, Leah McNamara, Steve Wall, Charlotte Bradley, Dennis Bartok, and Richard Foster-King. This also doesn't look that great, but maybe I'm just not into this kind of ghost horror story. I'm also a bit bothered by the guy trying to imitate Anthony Hopkins, not too original. Here's the official trailer (+ two posters) for Dennis Bartok's Nails,...

In November, the film will see most Video-on-demand platforms and a few theatres. The film was developed by director Dennis Bartok. "So what's the deal with the two love birds in the back?" Amber Content has debuted a trailer for a film called Moon Dogs, which won Best International First Feature at Galway Film Fleadh 2016. No, this isn't an animated movie about dogs who go to the moon. Moon Dogs is about two teenage step-brothers, Michael and Thor, who take a road trip from Shetland to Glasgow for very different reasons. They're joined by an aspiring Irish singer named Caitlin, and if you can't already guess, things get heated when both boys fall for her. Jack Parry-Jones and Christy O’Donnell star, along with Tara Lee, Chris Donald, Tam Dean Burn, Tanya Franks, Geoffrey Newland, and Shauna Macdonald. This looks like a very odd, spunky, entertaining little coming-of-age film, which was nominated for a BAFTA Scotland last year. Check this out. After suffering a near-fatal accident whilst running, Dana (Shauna MacDonald, The Descent 1&2) is left paralysed in hospital with only an automated voice program to communicate. The accident not only puts a strain on Dana’s marriage to Steve (Steve Wall, The Vikings) but she soon believes that she is being haunted by serial killer and former hospital employee Eric Nilsson (Richard Foster-King, It Never Sleeps).
With Horror becoming a mainstream affair in recent years, it’s always a pleasant surprise when interesting ideas surface in the genre. In this case, Nails succeeds as our protagonist Dana faces varying degrees of challenges such as being bed ridden with only a laptop to communicate whilst facing the ghoulish antagonist Nails. This spares the audiences from the cliched nature of female lead horrors, having them run endlessly around corridors of spooky old houses.
The setting of the film enhances this positive too,...
