As ‘Barbie’ fans gathered at the Alamo Drafthouse in New York for the Barbie premiere on Friday, director Greta Gerwig stopped by for a surprise visit.
In an Instagram video posted by writer David Mack, Gerwig was seen in a denim jumpsuit and cap addressing the audience. “I can’t tell you how happy I am that you guys are all here,” she said. “When we made this movie we made it with so much joy and hope, and we hoped that people would go back to the movie theatre...

Devery Jacobs, who stars as Elora Danan in the hit series Reservation Dogs, has been cast in the upcoming Marvel Studios’ series Echo, premiering on Disney+. According to Deadline, Jacobs is believed to be playing a lead character named Julie, who is described as “resilient” and “strong-willed.” Fellow Echo star Alaqua Cox teased Jacobs’ casting last week in an Instagram story, which showed a photo of a flower arrangement alongside the caption, “@kdeveryjacobs decided to surprise me with these beautiful flowers before the first day of filming tomorrow.” Helmed by Marion Dayre, Echo is based on the Marvel Comics character created by David Mack and Joe Quesada. It sees Cox reprising her role from Hawkeye as Maya Lopez/Echo, a deaf Native American superhero who leads the Tracksuit Mafia and can perfectly imitate others’ movements. Cox also serves as a writer on the series alongside Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen.

If there’s one thing superhero fans love, it’s when a good guy fights a good guy. It’s even better when those good guys are the same guy.
Hot off his return to the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Charlie Cox had some unflattering things to say about the 2003 Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck. Cox told fans at the Middle East Film & Comic Con 2022 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates that he never saw Affleck’s superhero movie debut before he was cast as Daredevil. According to People, Cox told the crowd, “I don’t love the movie … I feel like the movie tried to do too much and it was a little tonally confused.”
Few would disagree with Cox’s statement. Although it eventually earned twice its budget, Daredevil broke a string of critically well-received superhero movies that...

The stories written into Tori Amos’ 1992 debut, Little Earthquakes, will be brought to life in a new graphic novel. To mark the album’s 30th anniversary, the singer-songwriter has teamed up with Z2 Comics and editor Rantz Hoseley to publish Little Earthquakes: The Graphic Album.
The graphic novel, which follows Amos’ 2008 book Comic Book Tattoo, will transform the album’s tracks and b-sides into a 24-story collection that recontextualizes the LP’s original narrative. To accompany Little Earthquakes: The Graphic Album, Amos will also reissue a deluxe edition of Little Earthquakes on vinyl.

Who shot Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls? It’s crazy to think that a Hollywood movie can solve a homicide the Los Angeles Police Department couldn’t crack. But conspiracy-minded “City of Lies” — which opens 24 years and 10 days after the rap legend’s murder on March 9, 1997 — suggests that the Notorious B.I.G.’s death isn’t unsolved at all, but a cover-up of epic proportions.
According to buck-the-system screenwriter Christian Contreras (who cooks up lines like “There’s no such thing as law. There’s never been one that can overcome man’s nature”), the LAPD had a pretty good idea of who did it and deliberately chose to let the case go cold. There’s a lot of change in the air, and in so many cases, it’s nice to see how the Covid crisis is bringing out our better angels – especially when it comes to publishers and retailers.
Inc. Here’s an innovative ideas from forward-thinking entrepreneurs designed to create something positive for both these retailer channels.

I’ve always loved Jessica Jones, ever since her first appearance back in 2001. (Nineteen years?! where did that go) Her original series, Alias, was created by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos, with fab David Mack covers, and is still well worth a read today. She was created for the mature reader Max imprint and although since she has strayed into mainstream Marvel Avengers books, which tone her down a little too much, I’m pleased to see here she is back to her mature readers only roots. I haven’t kept up with every book she has been in, due to Marvel’s continual issuing of first issues and even putting her back in her costume, but usually things end up righting themselves, and this book looks like the one to do it.

Wonder Women, Batmen, Baby Yodas and Ultramen were among the hundreds of cosplayers who showed up at the Singapore Comic Con taking place at the Marina Bay Sands on Saturday. Thousands more queued to get inside the massive event.
A bewitching array of almost every well-known comic character on the planet, and events around them were thronged by Singaporeans celebrating their weekend. Given the imminent Dec. 19 release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” evidence of that universe was very much on show.
Fans were deeply immersed in Gamersaurus Rex’s tabletop experiences where players enacted battles between opposing forces using hand painted miniature models, in games like “Warhammer 40,000,” “X-Wing,” “Dungeons and Dragons” and “A Song Of Ice And Fire.”

Did you catch all of the Star Trek references and Easter eggs in the Short Treks episode "Ask Not"?
Warning: This Short Treks Episode contains spoilers for Season 2 Episode 3: “Ask Not.”
“Ask Not,” the latest episode of Short Treks, presents a classic Star Trek scenario with a new twist. Focusing on Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and Cadet Sidhu (Amrit Kaur), the very brief story of the episode feels fresh, and presents a great character study about what it takes not only to be in Starfleet, but to stay in Starfleet.
Still, despite the big stakes combined with a small character study, there were more than a couple big dips into the expansive canon of Star Trek. From references to the tribulations of Wesley Crusher, to throwbacks to The Original Series, and even some sideways shout-outs to the canon of the various novels, “Ask Not” is a small story that contains multitudes.

Was Fox News host Sean Hannity a bit of a heartthrob during his early years at the channel? One media critic says the answer is yes.

Day 4 of #NaGraNoWriMo! Last time, I told you that a full script for comics can look very deceptively like somethings it should never be… and those are plays: both traditional stage plays and screenplays.
Why? Because they simply don’t describe the same things.
The single most important difference between a play script and a comic book script is that a comic story is made up of single frozen moments that express something, most often either an action or an emotion.
Plays don’t do that. Plays describe ongoing action and motion, and comics are not built to do that, as they’re made out of single images. You’re not writing in documentary, you’re writing in newspaper photographs.
Take one of the most famous photographs of all time:
You can’t tell if someone just put on his hat. You can’t even tell if someone is blinking.

Moments before the Senate Judiciary Committee was scheduled to vote on whether or not to recommend Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court, and just minutes after Sen. Jeff Flake (R-az) announced he would support Kavanaugh’s nomination, Flake was confronted inside an elevator on Capitol Hill.
The senator was pelted with questions about the urgency to advance the nomination from a barrage of angry and disappointed women and men holding camera phones up to capture his reaction. “I need to go to the hearing,” Flake told them.

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace said Thursday that Christine Blasey Ford’s delivery of her prepared statement was a “disaster for the Republicans,” calling the psychology professor’s testimony in front of Senate Judiciary Committee was “extremely emotional, extremely raw and extremely credible.”
Choking back tears, Ford described in detail the night in the 1980s in which she said a teenage Brett Kavanaugh attempted to sexually assault her and the long-lasting effects the alleged incident had on her life since.
“This was extremely emotional, extremely raw, and extremely credible,” Wallace said of Ford’s testimony. “Nobody could listen to her deliver those words and talk about the assault and the impact that it had on her life and not have your heart go out to her.”
He also criticized the format of the hearing and the Gop senators’ decision to hire Arizona prosecutor Rachel Mitchell to question Ford in their place.

The Metropolis Illuminati get their hands on Kryptonite, and Batman returns to Metropolis in Action Comics #1003
Where is this arcade and how do I purchase the cabinets available for play in it?
As you'll see from this exclusive first look at Action Comics #1003, the next issue in Brian Michael Bendis' ongoing Superman epic, the Metropolis illuminati he's been building up since taking over the book is getting their hands on what we can only assume is a piece of Kryptonite from the sickly green glow. And while that's exciting, it's not the main draw of the book right now. Neither is the utterly gorgeous art from Yannick Paquette. It is, of course, stunning to look at, and this preview has certainly moved Wonder Woman: Earth One v.2 up to the top of my to read pile.
No, what is making me irrationally excited for this issue...

Dozens of internet denizens were abuzz Thursday after Newsweek reported that the Earth could be facing destruction inside the grips of a black hole.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson ended his Fox News show Monday night with a warning. Sex-crazed pandas could kill you if they wanted to — and our popular conception of the cuddly creatures is actually just fake news.
“You know the official story about pandas — they’re cute, they’re adorably helpless, which is why they’re almost extinct,” he said in a segment titled “Pandas Exposed.”
“But like a lot of what we hear, that’s a lie,” he continued. “The real panda is a secret stud with a taste for flesh and a fearsome bite.”

Tell me more.
“They’re not against sex, either — they just hate unsexy zoos,” said Carlson. “But when they’re in the wild, male pandas engage in a fierce sexual contest. The winner has sex 40 times in a single afternoon.”
The moment left many in the Twitter peanut galley speechless.

The Carlson segment, which the host himself could barely finish with a straight face, had its origins in this Wall Street Journal story about the secret lives of the animal.
“The real panda is a secret stud, with a taste for flesh and a fearsome bite, at least in its natural habitat,” reads the piece by Lucy Cooke, which Tucker appears to have cribbed verbatim. “But that habitat is withering thanks to human encroachment. Once a wide swath of southeast China and bordering nations, panda country is now a patchy strip, mostly through the forests of just two mountain ranges.”
Watch above.

The Disney Corporation raised some eyebrows over the weekend after a sharing a meme featuring its beloved character Pinocchio being brought to life under the tagline: “When someone compliments you, but you’re dead inside.”
“Makes no difference who you are,” Disney added in a cryptic message.
“Damn Disney u ok?” asked BuzzFeed’s David Mack — one of many blue-check Twitter blue users who fretted that all might not be well in the House of Mouse.

Needless to say, the tweet from Disney’s official Twitter account appeared off-brand for a company whose stock and trade has delivering family-friendly content through its beloved animated characters.
Reps for Disney did not immediately respond to request for comment from TheWrap about why this tweet was launched or what it could mean.
But that didn’t stop commenters on social media from speculating for why the company would embrace such a dark meme.
“I for one think it’s great that disney is leaning into nihilism as a social media content strategy,” wrote one Twitter user.

Those of you unable to wait ’til next year for the second season of Daredevil should be pleased to know that there’s more Marvel goodness coming to keep you happy for the rest of 2015. The House of Ideas announced that the next entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will make its debut on the small screen later this fall with the first season of Jessica Jones arriving on Netflix this November, according to the latest trailer.
The show is based on the critically-acclaimed, albeit short-lived, comic book series Alias (not to be confused with the Jennifer Garner-starring TV series of the same name). The 2001 series helped to spring-board the popularity of writer Brian Michael Bendis when it arrived as one of the initial titles in the launch of Marvel’s “Max” line of mature-themed comic-books. The series tells the story of the titular heroine, Jessica Jones. She’s...
