"Why help us?" Capital Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie sci-fi called Beyond Existence, made by filmmaker Schuman Hoque. It's premiering soon at the Boston SciFi Film Fest and then will end up on VOD later this year. "What happens to our world when technology exceeds humanity?" The film follows Ellen, a government agent who is forced to protect a professor who holds a deadly secret. Ellen must help The Professor evade an immortal bounty hunter in order to save the human race. Featuring performances from Amelia Clay, Gary MacKay, Pauline Turner. The director explains: "with Beyond Existence we wanted to push the limits on what zero-budget filmmaking can achieve, while still having a commercially-driven and complex story." To save humanity, Ellen will go beyond fate, beyond destiny, beyond existence. Oh boy this sounds like it's going to be rough. I wish indie sci-fi was much better these days!

Your 9 to 5 might be (mostly) the same every day, but that is certainly not the case for production designers. “There are no typical days in designing. I think that’s why we all love this career,” Nelson Coates (“The Morning Show”) tells Gold Derby during our Meet the Experts: TV Production Design panel (watch above) with Gary Mackay (“Cowboy Bebop”), Rich Murray (“Only Murders in the Building”), Ondrej Nekvasil (“The Wheel of Time”) and Laura Fox (“The White Lotus”). “Every day is unexpected, no matter how it’s planned. That’s exciting. I think we all live off of that adrenaline.” Enjoy watching our group roundtable panel above. Click on each individual name to see that person’s solo interview.
For Nekvasil, he never dreads going into work. “I have the feeling that I would like to go to the office. I don’t have the feeling, ‘Oh, I would like to stay home,...

“Cowboy Bebop” production designer Gary Mackay was already a fan of the original Japanese anime series so getting the call to join the Netflix live-action adaptation, which premieres Friday, Nov. 19, was a “pretty mind-blowing opportunity.” “I had watched the show a long time ago. And it was a lovely reintroduction to get the opportunity to come and work on it,” he tells Gold Derby at our Meet the Experts: Costume Design panel (watch above). “I think because most of us were such huge fans of the original anyway that we felt like a real obligation to [be as faithful] as we could for the existing fans.”
Set in 2171, “Cowboy Bebop” is a genre-bending series, mixing action, noir, Western and sci-fi, that follows a group of bounty hunters in space, led by John Cho. Mackay and his team had the “perfect kicking-off” point not just with the beloved anime, but they had access to approximately 600 sketches for the original.

With the Scottish League Cup Final just around the corner, Celtic are looking to score an early win against opponents Dundee United by nicking their player Stuart Armstrong before the transfer deadline.
Celtic have already had two separate bids rejected by United for Stuart Armstrong, as well as Scotland international winger Gary Mackay-Steven, who is already joining in the summer. They reportedly offered £150,000 to make that deal happen early, but Dundee United are understandbly less keen.
The Bhoys have now tabled an improved offer for Scotland Under-21 capped Armstrong after seeing a £1.5m offer rejected last week. They’re looking to bat away interest from Burnley, who have already tried to sign the player this winter.
Time will now tell whether United see the £100k improvement as enough to sell one of their prized assets who helped them beat Aberdeen in the cup semi-final at the weekend.

Wayne Rooney is a surprise inclusion in the England squad for their clash with “The Auld Enemy” on Wednesday night.
The want-away United striker has played a mere 45 minutes in pre-season, and major questions will be asked whether a player with so little game time should have been included.
Aside from “Wazza”, it’s a vital preparation game for Roy Hodgson ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month. He’ll also have a chance to blood 31-year-old striker Rickie Lambert, the Southampton star who scored 15 Premier League goals last season is yet to be capped for England.
Scotland, under new manager Gordon Strachan, have been going well of late, winning 1-0 in Croatia courtesy of a Robert Snodgrass strike. It’ll be a chance for the former Liverpool manager to try out certain players, with international debuts expected for Brighton and Hove Albion’s defender Gordon Greer and Dundee...

Home Nations rivals Scotland and Wales will face-off tomorrow at Hampden Park, with both sides needing a win to keep any hope alive of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The two bottom sides in Group A met last October at the Millenium Stadium with Wales emerging victorious thanks to a Gareth Bale double. James Morrison had earlier scored for the Scots and Steven Fletcher had a goal disallowed but like much of Craig Levein’s tenure as Scotland manager luck was not on their side.
Chris Coleman also has not endured the best of times as a national team manager. However, he picked up his second win as Wales manager in February when Austria were beaten 2-1. This gives them some momentum going into this match. Scotland also have a new sense of optimism with former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan now at the helm and he will be...
