Exclusive: BritBox is to adapt Ml Longworth’s crime novels into a series titled Murder In Provence, in what is planned to be the first of many U.S. and UK co-productions for the BBC and ITV-owned streamer.
As previously reported by Deadline, Harlots and Ghosts producer Monumental Television had secured the rights to the books and attached Shelagh Stephenson, whose credits include Downton Abbey and Shirley, to write the series.
The project lands at BritBox as a series of three feature-length episodes, which will star Roger Allam (Endeavour), Nancy Carroll (The Crown), and Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman).
Allam stars as Antoine Verlaque, Investigating Judge in Aix-en Provence, while Carroll is his romantic partner Marine Bonnet. Together, they investigate the murders, mysteries, and dark underbelly of their idyllic home in the south of France. Their efforts are aided by Hélène (Settle), a detective and Antoine’s trusted confidante.

Harlots is heading back to the UK. The period drama, which was originally commissioned by ITV Encore, is moving to Starzplay after the British commercial broadcaster opted not to pick up the second season.
The streaming service, which is available via Amazon Prime Video Channels and Virgin Media, will launch the Monumental Films-produced drama on Thursday 14 February – Valentine’s Day with all eight episodes dropping. Season one joins the subscription service on 18 January.
Harlots was originally a co-production between ITV’s pay-tv network Encore and Hulu but only the U.S. digital platform picked the show up for a second season, which launched on 11 July. It has subsequently been renewed for a third season.
The second season dives deeper into the feuds, betrayals, and carnal connections amongst the characters with Liv Tyler joining as a new series regular.

Harlots is coming back for a third go-round. Hulu has renewed the provocative period drama series for an eight-episode third season.
Set against the backdrop of 18th century Georgian London, Harlots continues to follow the fortunes of the Wells family. Margaret (Samantha Morton) has been sent to America in chains; Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville) is vanquished and in Bedlam. It seems that the Wells girls can free themselves of their mother’s feud, but running a lucrative brothel brings new enemies. Meanwhile Lydia, in her darkest hour, still finds a way to bite. Inspired by the stories of real women, Harlots is a powerful family drama as explored from the female perspective. It hails from the creative team of Moira Buffini, Alison Newman, Alison Owen, Debra Hayward and Alison Carpenter.
Coky Giedroyc is lead director and Grainne Marmion produces.

Katie Leung is to star in upcoming BBC Two drama One Child.
The Harry Potter actress will lead the cast of the two-part 90-minute drama written by Guy HIbbert and directed by The 7.39's John Alexander.
One Child sees Leung play a young Chinese-born woman adopted by Anglo-American parents, who makes her way across the world on a personal voyage to discover who she really is.
Writer Guy Hibbert said: "I wanted to visit a contemporary Chinese city to discover what I felt was the most important story to tell from the point of view of the ordinary Chinese citizen. It is, of course, corruption - as it is in far too many countries throughout the world.
"My story is set amongst the poorest in the city and amongst the richest, the new billionaire class, abusing power alongside provincial Party officials.

It looks like our summer is shaping up very nicely, thanks to some excellent scheduling by The Powers That Be. At least our weekends will be taken care of. True Blood will almost certainly return in its usual Sunday at 9/8c slot, so there’s Sunday sorted. We told you earlier today that Zero Hour will be airing Saturdays at 8/7c, which fits in perfectly with this latest scheduling announcement: Primeval: New World will be airing Saturdays at 9/8c, followed by Sinbad at 10/9c on Syfy.
You may recall that we told you about the Syfy pickup of Primeval: New World back in October. You’ll recognize it as a spinoff from the original Primeval which aired here originally on BBC America. You’ll also recognize the star, Niall Matter, as Zane from the late great Eureka. Primeval: New World is another series acquired by Syfy from our pals up in Canada,...

Producer Vicky Licorish (Goodbye, Mr. Steadman) has recently completed a labour of love in the shape of 'Small Island', a drama from Ruby Television in association with Al Films for BBC, which chronicles the intertwining lives and loves of Jamaicans and Londoners in the 1940s where English landlords' signs reading 'No Irish, No Coloureds, No Dogs' appeared to be the message of almost an entire country. 'Small Island' was filmed in Belfast and Jamaica during February / March 2009, with a few days also spent shooting in Dublin. The crew shot for six weeks in Belfast having transformed parts of the city into post war London. The drama feature, which is expected to broadcast as two 90 minute pieces, is adapted from Andrea Levy's novel of the same name, directed by John Alexander (The Shadow in the North) and adapted by Paula Milne (I Dreamed of Africa). LONDON -- A trio of U.K. organizations united Friday to launch a £900,000 ($1.5 million) fund to fuel the development of live-action and animated movie projects for children and family audiences. The fund -- launched by the Children's Film & Television Foundation (CFTF), and supported with cash from the U.K. Film Council's development fund and pubcaster the BBC -- will total £300,000 ($499,494) over the next three years. The trio of backers will split the total equally. It will be open to individual producers and independent production companies and will be spearheaded by CFTF development executive Grainne Marmion. Marmion, a former BBC Films exec, will choose the projects to receive backing by the fund, in close consultation with the three backers. The CFTF has mainly concentrated on development for television recently, including such series as "The Queen's Nose", "The Magician's House" and "Harry's Mad".
