Rockstar
These days Rockstar have perfected their open-world formula, becoming a signature developer with a list of titles that would make anybody jealous. Not only is GTA V still the fastest, highest-selling entertainment property of all time, but with games like Bully and Red Dead Redemption under their belts, the Scottish developer has proven they can apply their skills to many different genres across the gaming spectrum.
A resounding success all round, GTA V was a huge improvement from part four in every way; be it likeable characters, a world that was actually fun to explore, or just car-handling that didn’t feel like your tires were made of jello.
The original Red Dead is often called ‘Grand Theft Horse’ in a manner that’s fitting to differing degrees.
Yes there’s a minimap in the corner just like GTA, and yes you’re living in a dynamically altering world...

I’ve got to be honest, I’m a sucker for westerns. The lone cowboy and his trusty horse roaming the open and untamed land is admittedly romantic, but I also find it incredibly thrilling. A time filled with endless possibilities and complex stories that go beyond the good guy/bad guy dynamic. After all, the good guys don’t always have to wear white.
So naturally, I fell in love with Red Dead Redemption, glitches and all. The narrative lens used to portray John Martson’s story won me over in a matter of seconds. Marston’s history is written with the scars on his face and the weary look in his eyes. A troubled past, an attempt to start fresh, a dying breed, and government blackmail. Let me saddle up and grab my Winchester, I’m all in.

It’s hard to introduce an article like this without making reference to how ridiculous GTA V’s success has been. Records smashed, critics wowed, players enthralled – it’s safe to say that Rockstar have delivered the biggest in their line of successes.
But let’s go back a few years and allow our consoles to go back a hundred. A few months back Red Dead Redemption saw its release to the same successes as listed above, and now that the frenzy has started dying down, what does Rockstar announce? The Undead Nightmare Dlc.
Everyone thought they were mad. How could a straight played Wild West shooter have zombies? How would John Marston and co fight against a horde of the walking dead without it becoming too hard or too easy, or too boring? These pretty solid skepticisms and more were slain when the content landed and proved that the...

Currently most of the gaming world’s focus is on the massively popular and successful GTA V, and while I personally have not yet bought or played the game, I know what brilliance Rockstar are capable of thanks to 2010′s Red Dead Redemption.
The Wild West game took a huge step forward in the storytelling of video games, crafting characters who were expertly written and who add significantly to the story. The brilliant writing ensured important characters in Rdr were never entirely perfect or dull, meaning that the characters feel more human and relatable.
Ultimately of course, it is the protagonist John Marston who is Rdr’s strongest character. By travelling with him, understanding his difficult position and empathising with his frustration at the government, the player grows to adore him.
But as much as John is the reason for the player’s connection to the game, it is important...

GTA V is probably going to come out on top at the end of this year as 2013′s greatest game. In many (if not most) ways it is well deserved. Considering that there is a new generation around the corner, GTA V has serves as a welcome swan song for this generation of consoles, much like San Andreas did 9 years ago for its generation.
With each passing addition of GTA, the world has yearned for a multiplayer experience that works in harmony with the single player – One that stands up to its stellar solo campaign. With GTA Online, we are almost there…But not quite.
Feel free to disagree, but after just looking on a few forums it becomes quite apparent that most of the following points are issues everybody seems to have with GTA Online. All of these could be rectified with a patch and/or very little work.

The candlelit Sam Wannamaker theatre is on the same site as the Globe, where Arterton made her professional stage debut
Forget Quantum of Solace and Prince of Persia, Gemma Arterton is about to play the Duchess of Malfi in the inaugural production at the Shakespeare's Globe new indoor theatre, which is on the same site as the Globe.
The 350-seat Sam Wanamaker theatre – named after the Globe's founder – is the only recreation of an indoor Jacobean theatre in the UK and will be lit entirely by candles as it would have been in Shakespeare's day.
The Globe's artistic director Dominic Dromgoole has specified that the theatre will be used to showcase the work of Shakespeare's contemporaries. John Webster's revenge tragedy, last seen in London at the Old Vic with Globe regular Eve Best in the title role, will open in January with Dromgoole directing.

Most people do not associate Grand Theft Auto with tears. For the most part, people look at is as an apocalyptic (just in the sense that some of us kill everything in sight) sandbox where anything is possible, and nothing is too absurd to try at least once. For the most part, I would agree with them.
A perfect example of embracing that zaniness is something that I’ve been doing for the past two days: hunting deer with a golf cart. No, not In a golf cart. With a golf cart. In other words, I take to the mountains as Trevor, steal a golf cart, drive around until I see deer, and then I try to run them over with the golf cart. It may sound juvenile, because it is, but it is also fun as hell. But if you take a moment to look past that frivolity you...

1 Mario and Peach (1985-2013)
The princess and the plumber are an unlikely coupling, but through 28 years of kidnapping, their love lives on.Anyone who's played video games for a few years will know the (what might be described as somewhat depressing) cycle of Mario and Princess Peach's love. They find happiness, the Princess is kidnapped, Mario to the rescue, repeat indefinitely. It's an easy narrative technique to mock and as to the depth of Mario and Peach's relationship, well, the trouble there is that they are always being separated ... But the two are video gaming's first couple, and Mario's devotion to his sweetheart is gloriously and unfailingly unconditional even if after all these years he might occasionally wonder about committing to a princess who just can't seem to to stay out of trouble.

Elegant and meticulous actor whose work ranged from Shakespeare to EastEnders
Paul Bhattacharjee, who has been found dead aged 53, was one of the country's leading British Asian actors, a key member of Jatinder Verma's Tara Arts, a regular at the Royal Shakespeare Company – he was last seen in the West End last year, playing Benedick opposite Meera Syal in the RSC's Much Ado About Nothing – and a popular television and film actor whose roles included Inzamam in the BBC soap EastEnders, an immigration officer called Mohammed in Stephen Frears's Dirty Pretty Things (2002) and parts in the Bond movie Casino Royale (2006) and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011).
He was tall, slim and naturally funny, always meticulous in his movement and perfect in his articulation. He reminded me of an elegant bird – a heron, perhaps, or a flamingo. His eyes twinkled as much as they burned. He slowed things down, rather than speeded them up,...

Editor's Note: After a night of restless sleep, I was visited by the three Spirits of America -- Teddy Roosevelt, Mark Twain, and Bo Jackson. They asked why I had forgotten so many other great American video game heroes and demanded I expand the list. Never one to want to disappoint, I have revised this article to reflect the wishes of Bo and his pals.
America's birthday is tomorrow and what better way to celebrate than by counting off a few of the most iconic All-American video game characters. What's that you say? You'd rather be kicking back a few colds ones with some friends while watching fireworks? Fine -- but you'll never know who's the best American video game hero.
11. Bill "Mad Dog" Rizer and Lance "Scorpion" Bean -- "Contra"
This classic arcade game put you in the boots of two commandos pitted against a terrorist organization who were wreaking havoc over the world.

Red Dead Redemption was the best game of 2010, if not the decade or of our generation. The game sighted vast, sprawling rural landscapes that offered an abundance of opportunities for gamers to take control of; from hunting animals to killing cannibals, this game had it all. And what helps the enjoyability of a game? The protagonist. John Marston, bandit turned farmer turned bounty hunter for the law. John Marston was one of those protagonists that you become draw to, you care for, he is an honourable man attempting to get his family back and live out the rest of his life in peace. Over the narrative John lays waste to hundreds of people, from bandits and murderers to innocent men, in truth the majority of characters John comes across perish during the story.
So what about those who survived, did they deserve to? In this list I acknowledge four characters...

Why is gaming an All Inclusive Art Vacation you ask? A culture bases itself on many different principles, what food we eat, what we drink, what cars we drive, what music we enjoy, what we watch on TV, what books we read, what art we like, and about 7 and a half million other things. All of those are great. People use books, music, movies, and art to take mini-vacations from their lives for many reasons. But, there is one thing that sets itself apart because it includes movies, art, books, and music, all in one awesome little package. That one thing is, of course, games.
Sometimes great art is the form of the cel-shaded graphics of highly acclaimed first person shooter, Borderlands 2, or the attempted realism set within the fantasy universe of the Skyrim. (Take a peak at some screen shots of a heavily modified version of Skyrim and you’ll see what I mean.

It’s a shame that modern day developers often choose to sink into the comforts of polishing up an already overworked franchise, resulting in the release of a subpar and often awful game. However, once in a while if the right amount of effort is put into its heart and soul, gems can crop up…
You have the Brotherhood of the Assassin’s Creed family.
The 9 in Final Fantasy’s long reign.
The World of Warcraft following on from just plain Warcraft.
Not only is there proof that sequels can work, there’s also a heavier pile of evidence to suggest that perhaps enough should have been enough. And thankfully, Far Cry 3 did not fall into this category. Luckily for Ubisoft and their previous Far Cry-ing backdrops, setting up entirely new games with each release created a new experience that doesn’t rely on safe groundings, thus resulting in new and exhilarating games,...

Red Dead Redemption, a title that was released back in May 2010, found its way into gamers’ hearts after Rockstar Games’ successful marketing campaign. The game featured John Marston, an outlaw forced by the government to hunt down and kill the men from his former gang, or risk the well-being of his family. This was possibly the first game released by Rockstar that featured an open-world wilderness.
The game reached critical acclaim due to its compelling story, fantastic visuals and original gameplay. Yes, Red Dead Redemption was great, but why are we still playing it? What makes this game more replayable than most games to date? This list should answer that question.
5. Open World Western

Computer game writers have one hell of a job in front of them. Not only do they have to write stories that lend themselves to the interactivity that games offer, but they have to write characters that do the same. Writing the protagonist of a game, is not the same as writing the protagonist in any other medium. Why? Because of the player, of course. The player is the ultimate unreliable narrator.
Take Niko Bellic in GTA IV for example: Niko arrives in Liberty City with the intention of starting a new life, a life in which he can forget his past crimes and most importantly, a life where killing is not a daily occurrence. As soon as Niko comes under my control, the first things I do are: Drive directly down the pavement hitting as many people as possible with my car. Beat a policeman to death to steal his gun,...

GTA V is set to be released into the world in the near future and the media is already filled with hype wondering how Rockstar are going to play it. Will they continue the seriousness of GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, and La Noire? Or will they revert back to the mad boisterous adventure of San Andreas and Vice City? Certainly, there is a market for both if the comment section is anything to go by.

Have you beat Skyrim? Probably not, with all the side quests and all, but it’s likely that you’ve played most of it. After finishing every main quest, thieves guild quest, companions quest, etc., I started to get bored of it all. I have played over 350 hours on Skyrim and noticed how repetitive it is after hour 150. I started to go into other games and hung up my Skyrim adventurer boots.
I found the perfect games to transition out of The Elder Scrolls, they are equally as fun and exciting as Skyrim and they deserve a spot in any gamers wish list. Although Skyrim will always have a special spot on my shelf, here’s a list of games that are perfect for the retired Dovahkiin.
The best part of these games: No insanely long loading screens like Skyrim had.

Legendary Gunslinger Arrives in Armadillo. Exhibits strange behaviours!
The God-fearing citizens of Armadillo, New Austin, were confronted last week by the strange and erratic behaviour of notorious bandit and murderer John Marston – formerly of the Van Der Linde gang – who was responsible for the Great Steamboat Massacre of 1906.
Rumours of Mr. Marston’s arrival had circulated the township for several weeks prior, with local residents speculating that the outlaw would bring his legendary penchant for violence, gambling and solicitation upon their community.
Among his famed dexterities, Mr. Marston is said to own the steadiest gun hand in the Frontier; be an uncannily able horseman, and have a hustler’s knack for backroom card games. Armadillo business owners and residents alike however, have reported Mr. Marston’s behaviours to be quite discordant with his rumoured proclivities.

Rockstar are perhaps one of the most successful Publisher/Developers doing business today. Their recent announcement of Grand Theft Auto V has whipped the game-playing public into an absolute frenzy and the screenshots that they released seemingly just moments ago in an ‘Asked and Answered’ session have already been passed around the internet like a porn mag in a high school.
On the back of that news came something equally exciting. When pressed about the fate of the Red Dead series, representatives from Rockstar were keen to assure us that announcement details are in fact on the way. Whether that’s tomorrow, or months down the line isn’t yet clear, but one thing can be easily gleaned from the words: it’s coming.
While a third journey into Rockstar’s acclaimed Western world was always anticipated, it’s been way too long since we’ve heard anything on the fate of the franchise.

That’s why I’m particularly excited about this little tidbit from the good people at Rockstar.
Apparently in the recent Q&A session with Rockstar, in which they revealed screenshots for Grand Theft Auto V, they were also pressed to respond to questions regarding the Red Dead franchise and came back with this:

In a lot of ways videogames are as notable for what you can't do in them as what you can. Bionic Commando's Nathan "Rad" Spencer could swing across chasms, but not jump. Resident Evil 4's Leon Kennedy could walk and shoot, provided he only did one at a time. And Red Dead Redemption's John Marston could single handedly take out gangs of outlaws, but not swim. Adding a new twist on this dichotomy of having extraordinary, but not ordinary powers is Hybrid; an upcoming Xbla multiplayer-only shooter that allows you to zip around on a jetpack, but not walk.
I'm not sure what the explanation for this is (maybe the characters are all paraplegics?), but Fifth Cell (Scribblenauts) creative director Jeremiah Slaczka is using this bizarre limitation to add a new wrinkle to the third-person shooter genre. The peculiar controls will allow you to fly between various cover points,...

There’s a sort of social stigma attached to tie-ins of any sort, really. There’s something about the idea of an expanded Universe that many argue results in an unavoidable bastardisation of the source material.
Let me just define the term ‘tie-in’ within the context of this article. Tie-ins exist in across all forms of media and in any direction. You’ve got movie to comic book, comic book to movie (more common), movie to game, game to comic book, even comic book to musical album (admittedly rare, but if you listen to Coheed and Cambria, you’ll know what I mean). Some are great; most are unfortunately mediocre, but they exist in abundance, thanks to that twatty business term you may know as ‘synergy’.
I don’t think tie-ins themselves are the issue; when done right, they can provide a wealth of satisfaction, and new depths to an already well-loved character or setting.

Way back in February, we saw the first hints that "Grand Theft Auto V" was on the way, and now we finally have some concrete proof of the game's development -- including a logo, a release date for the trailer, and of course, the inevitable briefcase full of rumors.
Over at the website for "Grand Theft Auto" developer Rockstar Games, you can get a look at the logo for the next installment of the massively popular, record-breaking franchise. The company quietly changed the image on their homepage in the last 24 hours to debut the iconic branding of the franchise title, and reveal that the first trailer for the game will arrive on November 2.
And while there's no shortage of speculation as to what the logo might say about the next iteration of the gritty "Grand Theft Auto" series, there are also some interesting rumors that surfaced in the time since the logo premiered.

On October 22, 2001, everything we ever thought we understood about videogames changed. Gamers were looking ahead to the oncoming arrival of the next generation of consoles. Nintendo was one month away from the North American release of the GameCube, an adorable candy-colored travesty that would usher in a half-decade in the cultural wilderness. Microsoft — still the Evil Empire in those simpler, bygone days — was going to release its own system the same week: A brutal tank-like abomination called the Xbox, which came equipped with a controller that looked like a blunt instrument used by cavemen to crush mammoth skulls.

Zombies are the best of the horror movie monsters….. It’s irrefutable.
Some might argue that it’s vampires or werewolves, or even slasher villains like Jason or Freddy. But there’s something intrinsically frightening about Zombies. Perhaps it’s because they represent death, or the way in which they can often be used metaphorically to reflect real-life concerns. Honestly though, it’s probably just the idea of being slowly eaten alive – especially if its by your best friend or even your gran.

Everyone loves an anti-hero. They are not the clean cut types who play by the books or are necessarily the kind and friendly date you bring back to your parents, but instead they kick ass and take names. They are the men (and sometimes women) who know what they need to do but frankly don’t give a damn when they piss someone off, bend the rules to help their cause and if you get in their way you’re bound to know about it.
They are the guys you love and hate but can’t ignore. What Culture picks the Top 8 Anti-Heroes of Shooters…

I'm a big jazz fan, so one of the things I've been looking forward to the most about "L.A. Noire" is how they'll use the pop music of the post-wwii era in the game. Rockstar's pretty much perfected the art of assembling music that reflects the tone of the interactive work they create.
"GTA: Vice City" introduced new wave acts like The Human League and A Flock of Seagulls to a generation of gamers who were born after their music topped the charts Similarly, "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" packed its radio stations full of classic electrofunk, Reagan-era R&B and mid-1990s hip-hop when it hit the PS2 in 2004. The approach changed a little bit out of necessity for "Red Dead Redemption," since last year's hit Western game was set in an era before the proliferation of radio devices was widespread. Tis the season to be jolly – and for hundreds of naff shelf filler to confound the masses.
The big Christmas release rush has come and gone, so with all this season’s major titles ready for the picking, here’s our rundown of what you should be hoping to find under the tree on Christmas morning.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
The definitive Wii adventure also just so happens to be one of the best platformers of all time. Added Yoshi and new abilities keep the gameplay fresh, and while it’s more of a reintroduction to the Galaxy… erm…. universe, than a reinvention, when that playground is already one of the cleverest, inspired and joyous gaming worlds out there, that’s no bad thing.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (PS3/Xbox 360/PC/Wii/DS)
LucasArts’ brainlessly fun sequel to one of 2008′s best action games truly has something for everyone.

As far as video games go, 2010 might well be remembered as the year that controversy clashed with quirk. Or the 12 months that downloadable content went from novelty to staple. Or the 52 weeks where indies energized the mainstream. Or the 8765.81 hours of the iDevices' video game ascendancy. No matter how you slice it, it was a cycle of change, excellence and surprise. The games below symbolize all of that and more, depending on how you experienced them.

It's quite clear from last night's 2010 Spike Video Game Awards that black and white horror can still terrify and the Old West Never gets old.
While wunderkind PlayDead's frighteningly "stark and dark" title, Limbo, took home the Much deserved award for Best Independent Game, the Real upset came courtesy of a man named John Marston and a zombie Sasquatch.
Nominated for nine awards, Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar Games/Rockstar San Diego) upset the apple cart and was the belle of the ball, taking home not only three Vector Monkeys for Game of the Year, Best Song, and Best Original Score, but they also took home the award for Best Dlc for the zombiefied Undead Nightmare, bringing their total to four.
I love this game but I know what you're thinking: "Just How Much do people love this game?" Glad you asked!

Chicago – “No one deserves to have their blood drunk.” It’s possible that truer words have never been spoken in a video game. This tongue-in-cheek bit of dialogue spoils only one of about a hundred times you’ll smile, chuckle, or straight-out Lol to the brilliant Dlc addition to “Red Dead Redemption” known as “Undead Nightmare.” For what does every great game need? Zombies.

If we need any further proof that the future of gaming is in professionally-developed and executed Dlc, look no further than “Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare,” an amazing Dlc expansion to the game of the year. How appropriate that the best game of 2010 to date (with only a few contenders left to challenge that throne) also features one of the most memorable Dlc expansions in history? “Undead Nightmare” is better than most of the $60 disc-based games that we’ve played lately. There are some downloadable content (Dlc) packs that moderately expand the gameplay experience, adding on maybe 1 or 2 hours of gameplay. Then there are the Rockstar Dlc packs, which typically play like brand new adventures, thus adding on not only a new and engaging story, but also several hours of distinguished gameplay as well. Undead Nightmare, the latest Dlc for Red Dead Redemption is a fitting expansion that is worth every red cent. Story: "Something funny's going on out there." Zombies, zombies, zombies! As John Marston's tale in the regular game was a rather elaborate plot, Undead Nightmare opts for a campy tale straight out of a cheesy horror movie. While that sounds like a complaint, it’s far from it. The new world our hero is set in is a welcome change of pace with its light and often hilarious story. The nightmare begins when John is having a...

Insert Credit endeavors to suss out where you should be allotting your video game allowance, sifting out a single title from many and crowning it as The One Game You Need to Get This Week. Don't consider these reviews, gentle reader. Rather, think of Insert Credit as a mix of hands-on time, informed opinion and intuition.
For the week of October 29, 2010, you should insert credit into: "Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare" Dlc.
I've written before how Rockstar's games tend to draw in filmic influences and "Red Dead Redemption" marks an effort to channel what the company heads Sam and Dan Houser love about the Western into playable form.
But, if the gruff, betrayal-centric main storyline of Rdr apes the stripped-down, ultra-naturalistic tone of Sergio Leone and Sam Peckinpah's work, then the Undead Nightmare Dlc trades that in for horrific action along the lines of Sam Raimi and George Romero.

With AMC's The Walking Dead premiering Sunday, get ready for your television sets to be overrun by zombies. But that's not the first taste of zombie-dom for this week. Rockstar has released the final trailer to its Undead Nightmare Dlc pack for Red Dead Redemption, which is due to hit the Playstation and Xbox Live Marketplaces tomorrow. In this trailer, we get a more comprehensive look at what to expect in the expansion pack. After John Marston comes home to find his wife possessed with the zombie plague, he ties her up and sets out to find a cure. Featuring many familiar faces from the original game, Undead Nightmare isn't just about staying alive; the game has a full story built around this apocalypse. The zombies are no pushovers either; they come fast and furious at our hero and will stop at nothing to get some more braaaaains. But it's...

As the Undead Nightmare Dlc for Red Dead Redemption nears closer everyday, Rockstar has released another gameplay trailer. This one gives a taste for the weapons that John Marston (aka, you) will have at his disposal when fighting off the zombie outbreak. Zombies getting a bit too close? Just burn them with a torch. Having trouble taking them all out with one shot? Just use zombie bait to have them huddle around. And if splashing them with holy water doesn't tickle your fancy, then loot their body parts and shoot them back at them with a gun. Oh, joy. Undead Nightmare will be available next Tuesday, October 26 for download on XBox 360 and PS3.

When I first learned that Rockstar was going to be adding zombies to "Red Dead Redemption," I'll admit there was a palpable eye-roll. Zombies, it seems, have become the norm in video games lately, and for a company that has always prided itself on innovation, it seemed like an odd choice for Rockstar to make. But, after playing through about an hour of the Dlc pack, entitled "Undead Nightmare," I'm absolutely on-board.
A Different World
Unlike any of the "Red Dead Redemption" Dlc that has come so far, "Undead Nightmare" is sort of its own thing, separated out like the "Grand Theft Auto 4" Dlc episodes were. You'll be able to access the episode from the start menu, and once you enter it, the difference is drastic. This is a darker, more foreboding world than the sunny plains of the main game, and that's even without seeing a single zombie. Dark storm clouds cover the sky,...

One of the most popular booths at this past weekend's New York Comic Con was that of Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. Of course, not the game that came out five months ago, but of the Dlc (downloadable content) that is on the horizon. Combining one of the years best video games and the ever-popular realm of the undead, Rockstar has concocted Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. You are John Marston and it's your duty to stop a zombie outbreak that is cutting loose throughout town. Husbands eating wives. Mothers eating sons. Graves popping open with the undead rising up. Yup, John, something funny is going on out there. We have the official trailer for the Dlc package and it looks gruesomely awesome. The only question is if John himself will become infected. The Dlc doesn't have a release date yet, but it's coming soon.

Hey gang! Here's the brand new official trailer for Red Dead Redemption's new Dlc Undead Nightmare, where we follow John Marston as he tries to find a cure for "a virulent plague turning people into flesh-eating crazies."
The new trailer gives us the story behind the zombie infested old west.
Something is amiss in the Wild West as a plague spreads across the frontier, causing the dead to rise from their graves. This brand new single player story adds more to the robust world of Red Dead Redemption, with new weapons, undead animals, and other undead surprises. Throughout his journey, John encounters some familiar faces, for better or for worse.
Hope you enjoy the trailer! If for some reason the embed doesn't work below head on over to Rockstar to check it out.

Granted, if a “Red Dead Redemption” movie ever gets made, you probably won’t be seeing any zombie saloon girls or townspeople shambling about, but that hasn’t stopped the geniuses over at Rockstar Games from releasing a downloadable expansion pack that has the game’s hero John Marston quick-drawing his way through graveyards, towns, and fields full of undead folks and, from the looks of this trailer, animals. Yikes. And you thought shooting a drunk was hard; try shooting a zombie bear! Unleashed upon the world of Red Dead Redemption, the Undead Nightmare Pack will feature an entirely new mostly single-player campaign that follows John Marston as he tries to find a cure for the highly infectious zombie plague that has spread across the frontier. The more Rockstar Games unveils about the "Red Dead Redemption" Undead Nightmare Dlc this week, the more it seems to resemble a sci-fi/horror/Western Gurps campaign I remember hearing about many years ago. We knew from the screenshots that showed up yesterday that John Marston would be getting the chance to ride a zombie horse, but the trailer that appeared today includes another undead animal that looks like it can do some real damage. Have a look at your zombie bear and the trailer after the jump.
The pack will bring a "mostly single-player campaign" to "Rdr," according to the Rockstar Games Newswire feed. Marston will have to find a cure for a zombie plague that's erupted along the frontier, and "new gameplay mechanics, weapons, zombie animals, mythical creatures" and a "secret location" will be a part of that adventure.

You just can't kill the zombies plaguing video game news this week, from the release of "Dead Rising 2" and the "Call of Duty: Black Ops" zombies to "Age of Zombies" on the iPhone and Rockstar Games' first looks at the Undead Nightmare Dlc pack for "Red Dead Redemption." Yesterday brought retooled box art, and today introduced the content's first screenshots, featuring chases, rotting flesh and even a zombie horse.
The screenshots showed up on Rockstar's news blog containing a four-image prelude to a trailer that premiers tomorrow. John Marston appears riding both a normal horse and an undead one, which probably hints at some options that the Dlc has in store. The nature of the zombie horse is still just as mysterious as the content's release date, though, so you'll have to await further word about what the four-legged undead fellow brings to the table.

Earlier this summer, Rockstar Games announced that they'd be rolling out four Dlc packs for "Red Dead Redemption," their hit game released in May. John Marston's saga has already racked up significant numbers--an estimated $5 million by June alone--and, even if only a fraction of the cowpokes who grabbed the game at launch log onto Xbox Live or Playstation Network, "Rdr" will be earning its keep over a long stretch of time. The rundown from the initial press release:

New active map locations, characters and more:
• 9 new multiplayer map locations -- more than doubling the amount of territories in the multiplayer competitive modes;
• 8 new multiplayer characters -- play as characters from Red Dead Revolver;

"Resident Evil: Afterlife" hits AMC theatres tomorrow in standard, 3D and IMAX 3D. This will be the fourth film in the "Resident Evil" franchise.
The "Resident Evil" films are interesting, we think, because they represent the dawn of the modern era of films based on video games. Prior to "Resident Evil," (or really, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," if you want to be more specific) most films that attempted to adapt video games were disasters both cinematically and financially.
The early 1990s gave us such bombs as "Super Mario Bros,." "Mortal Kombat" and "Street Fighter," and for a time, it looked like a solid video game adaptation might never actually surface. To be fair, video games based on movies have a pretty lousy track record too.
While most films based on video games don't have the success of the "Resident Evil" series, the tide is turning for studios to take adapting video games more seriously.
