The professional dancer hired as a body double for “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights” testifying against Harvey Weinstein on Friday said she never got to shoot the one scene she traveled to Puerto Rico for because the producer ordered her off the set, whisked her away in a limo and raped her at a Ritz Carlton while she was supposed to be filming.
The witness, known as “Ashley M.” at trial, was testifying for a second day in a Los Angeles criminal court. She was just the second of eight women whose stories will be heard, and as a “prior bad acts” witness, hers is not one of the cases for which Weinstein is charged.
The day before, Ashley M. described how, arriving to the set alone for a dance scene as a body-double for the film’s lead, someone told her that “Harvey’s going to like you.” When the...

A supporting witness testified on Thursday that Harvey Weinstein masturbated on her at his hotel room in 2003.
Former actress Ashley Matthau, a “prior bad acts” witness whose claims aren’t among the 11 counts of sexual assault that Weinstein faces, was visibly rattled while taking the stand. Matthau’s hand shook as she was being sworn in and she began crying before saying a single word. Matthau dabbed her tears with a tissue and took deep, labored breaths while she waited for Deputy District Attorney Marlene Martinez to begin her questioning.
When Martinez asked how she was feeling, Matthau said, “I’m really upset.”
Judge Lisa B. Lench encouraged Matthau to take a break and she was escorted out of the courtroom.
When she came back, Matthau testified that Weinstein masturbated and ejaculated on her at his hotel in 2003 in Puerto Rico, where she was shooting a small role in Miramax’s “Dirty Dancing” sequel,...

It’s the loose-censored early 1970s, and screen bandits shootin’ up the American movie landscape are no longer suffering the once-mandated automatic moral retribution. Walter Matthau launched himself into the genre with this excellent Don Siegel on-the-run epic, about an old-fashioned independent bandit who accidentally rips off the mob for a million. It’s great, wicked fun.

Paramount has released a 2 disc special edition of the 1968 comedy classic The Odd Couple as part of the studio's Centennial Collection. The film retains all of its initial appeal, despite the fact that virtually every baby boomer has committed the scenes and dialogue to memory. Although most people regard this as the first historic pairing of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, in fact, that occurred with Billy Wilder's 1965 gem The Fortune Cookie which saw Matthau winning the Oscar for supporting actor. The genius behind the story, of course, is Neil Simon, who adapted his smash hit Broadway play for the film. The part of Felix Unger was originally played on Broadway by the great Art Carney, but Lemmon was a much hotter box-office property and got the role in the feature film. Freaky Deaky is another adaptation of an Elmore Leonard’s writing (Justified, 3:10 to Yuma). This one, helmed by director/screenwriter Charles Matthau (son of acclaimed actor Walter Matthau), is a wacky comedy about bomb-making radicals in 1974—as opposed to a western story like other works of Leonard’s. While the ensemble cast is amusing, there the tone of the film is a little too freaky-deaky to engage the viewer.
Protagonist Chris Mankowski (Billy Burke) gets transferred out of the bomb squad (after a botched job) and sent to work sex crimes. There he gets involved with Ginger (Sabina Gadecki) who claims that the wealthy alcoholic Woody Ricks (Crispin Glover) raped her at one of his lavish parties. Woody’s conniving chauffeur/personal valet/bartender/lawyer Donnell Lewis (Michael Jai White) gets Chris suspended for interfering, which only serves to make Chris more determined to prove Woody’s guilt. Meanwhile,...

"What, the sexy dance?"
In the first trailer for the upcoming ensemble comedy Freaky Deaky, it's clear that everybody wants something, it's just not exactly sure who wants what from whom. There's Detroit police officer Chris Mankowski (Billy Burke), former Black Panther Donnell Lewis (Michael Jai White) and vengeful couple Skip (Christian Slater) and Robin (Breanne Racano), who all want something from eccentric and rich Woody Ricks (Crispin Glover).
While the trailer is more interested in showing off the movie's humor than explaining the movie's plot mechanics, as long as writer-director Charles Matthau stayed close to the spirit of Elmore Leonard's 1988 novel, Freaky Deaky should be an entertaining ride. Hey, it worked for 1995's Get Shorty, 1998's Out of Sight, and the TV show Justified, all of which are based on Leonard's books.
Next Showing: Freaky Deaky arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on February 26th

Collider got their hands on the trailer and poster for director Charles Matthau’s adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel Freaky Deaky.
Chris Mankowski (Billy Burke) used to be on the Detroit Police bomb squad, but it’s not until he’s transferred to sex crimes that he gets a real taste of juggling dynamite. After falling for the lovely Greta Wyatt (Sabina Gadecki), he gets suspended for investigating the rich, powerful and drunk Woody Ricks (Crispin Glover).
Mankowski quickly realizes it won’t be easy to get justice for Greta. From former Black Panther Donnell Lewis (Michael Jai White) to sexy ex-fugitive Robin Abbott (Breanne Racano) and her erstwhile bombing partner Skip Gibbs (Christian Slater), everyone wants something from Ricks. With all these unscrupulous deviants in the mix, one thing’s for certain… it’s gonna get freaky!

Watch it below. Plot: He used to be on the bomb squad, but it's not until he transfers out that Chris Mankowski (Burke) really begins juggling with dynamite. At one point I think Charlie Matthau’s “Freaky Deaky”, starring Christian Slater and Michael Jai White and based on a novel by crime novelist Elmore Leonard, was supposed to be a big movie. Or at least, a movie with a theatrical release in its future. That, uh, apparently didn’t work out, and the film is bypassing theaters completely now for a DVD/Blu-ray release next month. Okay, just DVD. I don’t think they’re even shelling out the extra bucks for a Blu-ray release on this one, which should tell you something. I’ve been covering this title since 2010, and at one point it had a cast that included “Arrow’s” Katie Cassidy, along with Matt Dillion and Brendan Fraser. The film comes home after playing the festival circuit, including a stint at Tribeca. Chris Mankowski (Billy Burke) used to be on the Detroit Police bomb squad,...

Wouldn’t you say some Ethan Hawke news is always a good way to start things off? (Well, unless we’re talking about a few of his recent career choices.) Variety reports that Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions have snatched rights to Predestination, a sci-fi action piece that will see Hawke reunite with the Spierig brothers, with whom he collaborated on 2010′s Daybreakers. Just as that film zeroed in on the vampire subsect of the horror genre, this next effort will revolve around the oft-used, oft-misused conceit of time travel.
The siblings’ main source on Predestination happens to be “—All You Zombies—,” a late ’50s short story from author Robert A. Heinlein that they hold as “the mother of all time paradox tales.” In their screenplay, Michael and Peter Spierig focus on “the life of a temporal government agent” (I love the way that sounds) who, not unlike the character in Rian Johnson‘s Looper,...

As a junior high schooler, I used to record "Late Night with David Letterman" on a VHS cassette tape every night and watch it the following morning because my parents wouldn't allow me to stay up that late. In 1987, during summer break, while watching my trusty VHS tape, I witnessed an event that forced me fall in love with popular culture. I mean, "gun to the head, you have no choice in this matter," forced.
During a very uncomfortable appearance, Crispin Glover -- who, at the time, I only knew as George McFly from "Back to the Future" -- came very close to kicking David Letterman in the face. So close that a surprised Letterman walked off the set. This moment changed me forever.

One of the acquisition titles at Tribeca, the film adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel Freaky Deaky, was set to star William H. Macy, Brendan Fraser, and Matt Dillon. But most of the cast was replaced at the eleventh hour by Crispin Glover, Christian Slater, and Billy Burke, who play the target of a bomb plot, an explosives genius, and a former bomb-squad expert, respectively. After its Tff premiere on Sunday, the movie had its international rights snapped up, which was good news to Glover, the most international member of the cast, as he spends a large part of his time in the Czech Republic these days, prepping several of his own indie film projects. Just when you thought filmmakers had milked every gag possible from setting a movie in the 1970s, along comes writer/director Charles Matthau to prove that theory correct in the moribund Elmore Leonard adaptation “Freaky Deaky.” Though the source material takes place in 1988, Matthau heard the call of polyester and fur and answered be relocating the film to the seventies, resulting in a film drowning in cornball aesthetics, extravagant living room furniture, funk music out of a bad porno and loud fashion under the guise of mise en scene.

The adaptation of Elmore Leonard's "Freaky Deaky" boasts an impressive cast of colorful characters, including Andy Dick, Christian Slater, Billy Burke and Crispin Glover. However, action fans will spot one surprising name: Michael Jai White, who steals the film as two-timing bodyguard Donnell Lewis. After the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of the film, White spoke of his upcoming projects -- while he doesn't have the household name of some of his co-stars, he's no less busy than all of them.
"We hope to shoot 'Black Dynamite 2' at the end of the year," he says, announcing a reprisal of the popular cult film character. The original 2009 film wasn't a massive hit though it gained a strong grassroots following and has even led to a Cartoon Network spinoff, which Jai White continues to develop. White wouldn't reveal any plot specifics, though the fake-blaxploitation angle could possibly undergo a revamp for the eighties,...

White wouldn't reveal any plot specifics, though the fake-blaxploitation angle could possibly undergo a revamp for the eighties,...

Here's what we learned:Matthau, who wrote and directed "Freaky Deaky," called actor and filmmaker Crispin Glover "my friend for 40 years," ever since they attended the same grade school in Los Angeles. Glover's father is veteran character actor Bruce Glover, while Matthau is the son of the.

Although his upcoming adaptation of Elmore Leonard‘s Freaky Deaky is set to hit the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend, director Charlie Matthau has already lined up his next project. Deadline has informed us that the director will be helming the comedy The Sugar Shack, written by Kevin Fleming and Rob Janas.
The story is intriguing, as it follows “the most popular male stripper in Racine, Wisconsin as he fends off a young rival while saving the town from a corrupt politician.” Talk about a multi-talented stripper. The project has been described as a “cross between The Full Monty and The Hangover“, if that gives you any consolation on the type of film it’s going to be. Apparently the story was inspired by some female acquaintances of Second City alumni Fleming and Janas, who frequented the Racine joint.

Today we have the trailer for "Freaky Deaky," which is based on a novel by Elmore Leonard (Jackie Brown, Out of Sight, Get Shorty, 3:10 to Yuma) and stars Christian Slater, Crispin Glover, Michael Jai White, and Billy Burke. Check it out below. Plot: He used to be on the bomb squad, but it's not until he transfers out that Chris Mankowski (Burke) really begins juggling with dynamite. Rape and revenge are just the tip of the iceberg in a twisty tale that brings Los Angeles denizens to life - and occasional death - in all their seedy glory, circa 1974. The new movie is directed by Charles Matthau, son of Walter Matthau, and is set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday. It has yet to be acquired for distribution or get a release date. Removed at the request of the production company.

Director Charlie Matthau is looking to have a big week next week. With the Tribeca Film Festival starting up in New York City, Matthau's latest, an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel Freaky Deaky, is set to make its world premiere. If the movie is a smash hit than the big question that is going to be asked of the filmmaker repeatedly will be, "What's next?" The good thing is that he's apparently already set up an answer. According to Deadline, Matthau is now attached to direct the comedy Sugar Shack. The project is based on an original screenplay by Kevin Fleming and Rob Janas and centers on a male stripper. The story is set in Racine, Wisconsin and follows said stripper as he must both face down a rival and save his town from a corrupt politician. The setting was chosen because Racine is home to "one of the...

So what do you get when you mix Christian Slater, Crispin Glover, Andy Dick and more in a '70s-set adaptation of a beloved Elmore Leonard novel? Well, you get "Freaky Deaky" which should be one of the more colorful entries at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month.
The story picks up with Chris Mankowski (Billy Burke) whose first day on the sex crimes unit of the Detroit Police Department does not go well. Not only does he fall for the first person to report an assault to him, he’s suspended for investigating the rich, powerful and completely drunk Woody Ricks (Glover). Chris takes matters into his own hands, only to discover there are all kinds of people trying to get something -- money, revenge, or both -- from Woody. Tribeca: Tell us a little about Freaky Deaky. How do you describe the movie in your own words? Charles Matthau: A fun, sexy romp through Elmore Leonard's Detroit, circa 1974. Tribeca: It is widely reported that Freaky Deaky is one of Elmore Leonard's favorite novels that he has written. What were the challenges of adapting Freaky Deaky for the screen? Charles Matthau: The last time I adapted a noted writer's work to the screen was Truman Capote's The Grass Harp, which was set in 1930s Alabama and could not be more different in tone and pace than Freaky Deaky. With Freaky Deaky, I had the additional pressure of Elmore being very much alive and with us, and I was hopeful to not disappoint him. This particular story requires a heightened reality, yet shouldn't come off as too cartoonish. I also wanted the film to feel like...

When last we read about Andy Dick, the comedian was ordered by a West Virginia judge to stand trial on felony sex abuse charges stemming from an altercation in a nightclub that took place last year. Today's news is significantly better for the outlandish NewsRadio star. Dick has been cast alongside Crispin Glover, Christian Slater, Billy Burke and Michael Jai White in Freaky Deaky, director Charles Matthau.s adaptation of an Elmore Leonard book. Variety, which broke the news, doesn.t elaborate on Dick.s role in the comedy, which follows a bunch of ex-hippies as they try to blackmail a Hollywood producer. But the casting of Dick falls in line with the offbeat casting choices that have been well documented for this still-in-development film. For starters, William H. Macy, Matt Dillon, Craig Robinson and Brendan Fraser previously were on the line for the lead roles in the film, only...

Macy, Brendan Fraser, Matt Dillon and Craig Robinson have left writer/director Charles Matthau’s adaptation of the Elmore Leonard crime novel Freaky Deaky. Variety reported that character actor Crispin Glover stepped in for Macy as an alcoholic movie mogul threatened by a former ‘60s radical and his girlfriend. Glover joined the new batch of cast mates including Bill Duke, Sabina Gadecki, Christian Slater, Michael Jai White, Roger Bart and Breanne Racano. Matthau adapted the classic Elmore Leonard novel about former radicals trying to get on with their counter-culture lives in '70s Detroit and set the movie in 1974 at Leonard's suggestion.

You.ve heard of tyrant bosses cleaning house by firing everyone and then hiring on a bunch of interns willing to work for cheap, and the situation with Freaky Deaky doesn.t sound much different. Brendan Fraser, Matt Dillon, Craig Robinson and Katie Cassidy have been removed from the cast to be replaced by Billy Burke, Christian Slater, Michael Jai White and newbie Breanne Racano respectively. However, it isn.t mentioned at Variety if the shake up came at the behest of director Charles Matthau, or if the actors just walked away. The new set of actors will certainly cost less, but at what cost to the film? Don.t get me wrong, I.m all about Billy Burke. As far as I.m concerned, he.s the only reason to see Twilight. Talk about some freaky deaky stuff going down. I don’t think this has ever happened before, but it has — the entire previous cast of Charlie Matthau’s adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s “Freaky Deaky” has all been replaced with an all-new cast. Out are Matt Dillion, Brendan Fraser and Katie Cassidy … and in are Billy Burke, Christian Slater, and Breanne Racano (below, in order) as their replacements. New addition Roger Bart has also officially signed up. “Freaky Deaky”, based on crime novelist Leonard’s novel of the same name, is a 1970s period film that willl follow Burke’s character, an Lapd bomb squad officer, who uncovers a plot being planned by ex-hippies to be played by Slater and Racano. Like most of Leonard’s stories, expect plenty of crime, quirk, and quirky crime in “Freaky Deaky”. Matthau (“Her Minor Thing”) will adapt and direct...

This is, well, a little freaky deaky indeed.
Billy Burke, Christian Slater and Breanne Racano have all joined the cast of "Freaky Deaky," the film adaptation of Elmore Leonard's crime novel, according to Variety.
And they'll be replacing Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser and Katie Cassidy, respectively.
The reasons behind this sudden major casting overhaul are currently unknown, though we have a feeling the film, which is set to be directed by Charlie Matthau, may have gotten a sudden -- and considerable -- budget cut.

This has at least been a good month for Christian Slater so far, who just booked a role in Walter Hill's untitled action flick starring Sylvester Stallone.

We had a couple of days where mid-level casting for a lot of projects was going crazy. I honestly couldn’t stand Katie Cassidy when she was on “Supernatural”, but I thought she was easily the best thing about the recent “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake.
