Even for obsessive Rolling Stones fans, the story of founding guitarist Brian Jones’ death nearly 51 years ago has been so clouded with misinformation, controversy and battling agendas that at a certain point one just gives up wondering. An asthmatic with a long history of substance abuse, he drowned in the pool of his lovely home on July 3, 1969, at the age of 27 — just weeks after being ejected from the Stones. While his death was officially ruled misadventure by the coroner, there is little clarity about who was present at the time, what their motives were, and where exactly he drowned.
While “Rolling Stone: Life and Death of Brian Jones” repeats much well-established information — and was clearly made without the cooperation of the Stones’ organization — it goes a long way toward clarifying the incident and presents reasonably convincing evidence that Jones was, if not murdered, then killed in an incident of manslaughter.

The Pretty Things played what they called their “final bow” – their last-ever concert – at London’s O2 last week, and the show featured some high-profile guests. David Gilmour came out for five songs during the band’s second set, playing on a handful of songs from their S.F. Sorrow LP, among others, and joined in for encores of “L.S.D.” and “Road Runner.” Van Morrison also joined them, in their third set, for a cover of “Baby Please Don’t Go” and two Bo Diddley numbers, as well...

Absolutely anything can -- and probably eventually will -- happen in New York City, but that doesn't mean Ami and the crew at "NY Ink" (Thu., 9 p.m. Est on TLC) were at all prepared for what walked through their door on this week's installment. "They look like a gang of misfits," he said of the performing troupe.
Go Go Amy introduced herself as the founder, producer and burlesque dancer of this traveling vaudeville show called the Pretty Things Peepshow. "Half burlesque, half sideshow," she smiled. They were such a unique bunch, that Ami called the whole team up to meet them.
And then they got an impromptu show, with each of the troupe members showcasing what they bring to the performances. Amy did a little bit of her burlesque dancing. Ami later listed the eclectic things they witnessed. "A guy that nails nails into his nose, a little person...

Has it really been five years since I posted a "Bowie @ 60" entry at GreenCine Daily? Heavens. Here we are again, then. In Friday's Guardian, Alexis Petridis, looking back to that "scarcely-believable ten-year creative streak that begins with 1970's The Man Who Sold the World and ends with the 1980's Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)," wrote that "having achieved more in one phase of his career alone than anyone can hope to in a lifetime — so much that it's literally impossible to imagine what pop music would be like if he hadn't existed — he's entitled to take early redundancy from pop stardom. You can mourn the loss of more music if you want, but in a sense, his absence feels strangely right…. The artist who drew a decisive, iconoclastic dividing line between the 60s and the 70s in the lyrics of 'All the Young Dudes' ('my brother's at home with his Beatles and his Stones…...

The burglar who was convicted of robbing Orlando Bloom has received six months in prison. According to Entertainment Weekly, Alexis Neiers, the star of E!'s Pretty Things, has received half a year of jail time and three years' probation. It's "American Idol" recap time. And what a week!
momlogic's Vivian: The remaining 24 contestants had to sing for survival this week, and Man the judges were in rare form -- even the usually charitable ones. When Ryan Seacrest mentioned that Simon Cowell had been "harsher than normal," Simon countered, "I didn't think I was, actually" -- and maintained that his comments had been for the greater good. "If you're going to judge the show, you've got to try and be honest and help them, give them some advice," he said. "Some of the performances last night weren't very good."
But emerging unscathed was our fave single mom, Crystal Bowersox (a.k.a. "MamaSox"), who on Tuesday had donned her harmonica and guitar and given a safe-yet-sweet rendition of Alanis Morissette's "Hand In My Pocket."
Every time I see footage of MamaSox with her boyfriend and adorable son, she kind...

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - Despite rumors that they're breaking up, Aerosmith will be headlining the Download Festival scheduled for June 11-13 at Donning Park in Leicestershire, England. But many are wondering, with all the reported drama between lead singer Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, will Tyler be joining the band for the show? Download promoter Andy Copping believes so. He tells MTV news "There's no Aerosmith without Steven Tyler. There's no point in entertaining anything other than (with) Steven Tyler." Copping adds that booking the band without Tyler was "never part of the conversation" with Aerosmith's management. It was last August that Tyler and Perry's relationship went south following Tyler's fall off the stage during a show, which eventually sent the lead singer to rehab for an addiction to pain killers. Since it had been Tyler's second rehab visit in just two years, rumors began to surface that...

Love and hate can be blind, and to date, I've mainly turned a blind eye to news on the very important Carrie Prejean front. This is, after all, a story so full of shallow characters that at one point, I actually seem to recall finding myself on the same side as Donald Trump. But seeing Ms. Prejean attempt to manhandle the "media" or Larry King the other night reminded me of a lesson I learned long, long ago. For as the late great Dewey Cox came to understand, you can never fully ignore The Temptations. "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep" - The Temptations "Ain't That Pretty At All" - Warren Zevon "You Can't Judge A Book" - Bo Diddley "Miss America" - Styx "California Girls" - The Beach Boys "Pretty Look Isn't All" - The Heptones "Pretty Things" - Joe Firstman "Oh You Pretty Thing" - David Bowie "Hot...
