She made her theater debut in Munich, it followed engagements at the Staatsoper Munich and at different theaters in Berlin.
She went overseas in the 70's where she appeared in operas and operettas in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The actress Elfie Mayerhofer became well-known as a singer and got the nickname "Wiener Nachtigall - Viennese nightingale".
She continued her career after the war and was giving concerts and appeared at operas.
She was engaged by Herbert von Karajan for the Salzburger Musikfestspiele in 1949 where she acted at Maria Cebotari's side in the play "The Marriage of Figaro".
She was born in Yugoslavia and studied music in her home country. Later she went to Zurich and Vienna.
