Following his death, he was interred at Woodland Memorial Cemetery in Santa Monica, California. He passed away on February 5, 1995, three months away from what would have been his 60th birthday on May 11.
Best remembered by the public for his role as "Trampas" on The Virginian (1962).
He reportedly enjoyed the character Troy McClure on The Simpsons (1989), for whom he served as the main inspiration alongside Troy Donahue, and his children would affectionately address him by the character's name behind his back.
Not related to fellow actor Marc McClure, despite a popular misconception.
Doug McClure and James Drury both appeared on all 249 episodes of The Virginian (1962). They were the only two actors who even came close to being in every episode.
Doug had a role on Maverick near the beginning of his career- and again near the end.
