AOL Time Warner's Turner Sports unit has reached a deal to sell its Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers pro sports teams, a company spokesman confirmed Monday. The spokesman said the teams were being sold to "an investment group including local partners" and not to long-presumed buyer and car magnate David McDavid. Further details are expected to be announced at a news conference today in Atlanta. "We have reached a binding agreement for the sale of the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers franchises and operating rights to Philips Arena to an investment group including local partners, which will be introduced to the press at an event (today)," the Turner Sports rep said. "We continue to have the highest professional regard for David McDavid and the McDavid Group, with whom we worked in good faith for the past several months. We are confident that the deal we will announce (today) is best for our company, for the teams and arena, for the city and for the fans." The deal for the NBA's Hawks and NHL's Thrashers does not include the Atlanta Braves baseball team owned by Turner.
