“Many years ago, a battle between good and evil was waged between Samaritan and Nemesis, twin brothers who became sworn enemies. They were freakishly strong, but they unintentionally hurt people. The residents of Granite City grew to fear the brothers. They waited until the family slept, then boarded up their home and set it on fire. The parents were burned alive, but the twins were unscathed. Samaritan grew to fight for justice and be a protector. But Nemesis, consumed by revenge, wanted the world to suffer.
“Samaritan tried to contain his brother’s fury, so Nemesis forged a powerful weapon, a hammer that he poured all his hate and rage into. It was the only thing that could destroy Samaritan.
“Samaritan and Nemesis died in a blast during the battle. It was a story everyone in Granite City has been told.

Actor and producer of the Prime video superhero feature, Sylvester Stallone takes on the role of Mr. Smith in the movie which sees’ thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspecting that his mysterious and reclusive neighbour Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually a legend hiding in plain sight.
Twenty-five years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbour out of hiding to save the city from ruin.
During the press tour for his latest movie, Stallone took time out to sit down for a press conference to reveal all of his dabble into the superhero genre.

With the first two epic episodes of Ms. Marvel now streaming on Disney+ and the next ready to drop, we thought we would deliver even more scoop on this very special show.
Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel is a new, original series introducing Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero megafan with an oversized imagination— particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?
We were fortunate to attend a virtual global press conference that had cast members Iman Vellani, Matt Lintz, Mohan Kapur (Yusuf Khan), Zenobia Shroff (Muneeba Khan) Rish Shah (Kamran), and Saagar Shaikh (Aamir Khan). Also joining...

'The Lazarus Effect' box office: Olivia Wilde and Mark Duplass horror movie arrives comatose (photo: Olivia Wilde in 'The Lazarus Effect') (See previous post: "'Focus': Will Smith Has One of Worst Opening Weekends of His Career.") Despite recent news that human head transplants are a mere two years away, the Mark Duplass-Olivia Wilde horror movie The Lazarus Effect – about bringing the dead back to life (as if world overpopulation weren't already a problem) – grossed $10.6 million from 2,666 U.S. and Canada venues on opening weekend, Feb. 27-March 1, 2015, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. The Relativity Studios-distributed low-budget horror flick had earned an estimated $3.8 million on opening-day Friday, including $350,000 from Thursday night screenings. Last week, box-office prognosticators had been expecting an opening between $12-$14 million. That was adjusted downward to $10 million or whereabouts after the film's disappointing Friday debut. Some, in fact,...

Miles Teller in Whiplash Photo: Daniel McFadden The two Day One Sundance films I caught offered a pianoforte of contrast in tone and style. From the UK came Lilting, a (sometimes too) softly spoken poem of a film tackling bereavement and the importance of finding a common language, while the Us brought the spiky jazz riff of Whiplash, a music school movie with unexpected menaces.
Ben Wishaw continues to prove he is one of the brightest young British actors working today with his portrayal of Richard a bereaved gay man who is trying to contend with the loss of boyfriend Kai (Andrew Leung), at the same time as trying to work out how to help Kai's Chinese-Cambodian mum Junn (Cheng Pei-Pei).
The problem for Richard is that in addition to blaming him for her recent move into an old folks' home, Junn also speaks virtually no English and has no...

Chicago – Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a unique dichotomy. Part independent and part mainstream film actor, he’s managed to succeed as both. And with this Friday’s release of “Don Jon,” add to that list a first-time writer and director. But none of it could have been without Christopher Nolan.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Nolan – who made his worldwide mark with “Memento,” “Batman Begins,” “The Prestige,” “The Dark Knight,” “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Rises” – is credited with making Joseph Gordon-Levitt mainstream.
Jgl – as I’ll hereafter refer to him because 20 characters is too many and it’s almost as cool as Neil Patrick Harris’ Nph – has been mentored heavily by Nolan. Jgl starred in Nolan’s “Inception” (his mainstream breakout role) and then “The Dark Knight Rises”.
Entirely of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, only 32 years old and from Los Angeles, this 5-foot-9 “Regular Joe” turned once again to Nolan when he decided to embark on his own project.

With the SXSW Film Festival kicking off, we have some news to share on Relativity Media’s upcoming film, Don Jon (formerly known as Don Jon’s Addiction). Writer/director/star Joseph Gordon-Levitt made this announcement regarding the film’s new title.
“Hey everybody,
So, as you might’ve heard already, I wrote and directed a movie last year, and it’s coming out later this year. Which is absolutely crazy, and I still kinda can’t believe it. Anyway, I’m posting this today to let you all know that I’m changing its title. It’s now called… Don Jon. I decided to change it, first of all, because Don Jon is just so short and simple, and if you know me, you know I’m a fan of brevity. Second of all, it felt to me like the old title,...
