If a group of mystical beings ascended from the ocean and insisted they now controlled your town and everyone in it, would you push back at all? That’s the central question at the heart of “Tidelands,” a new Australian Netflix series that sees modern-day sirens planning to overtake the community of Orphelin Bay. Of course, there are skeptics, people who are wary of these new “tidelanders” coming to infiltrate everything.
Then, guys show up murdered, sprawled out on the tops of cars. There are guns involved. Bad news ahead for Orphelin Bay, it looks like. As the people of the town figure out who to trust, old legends and new obsessions form the backbone for a series that looks like it’ll fill the “Siren”-sized hole in the hearts of all those Freeform viewers.

It.s about an Australian farmer, a Chinese illegal immigrant, a Persian family and an Indigenous girl. The structure of it is very like [2004 Oscar winner] Crash.
Kriv Stenders is set to direct new feature Australia Day, produced by Foxtel and Hoodlum, led by Bryan Brown and written by Stephen M. Irwin (Secrets & Lies).
Due to start shooting in Brisbane on August 22, the film will also star Shari Sebbens (The Sapphires, The Gods of Wheat Street), Sean Keenan (Lockie Leonard, Glitch), Matthew Le Nevez (The Kettering Incident, Offspring), Jenny Wu, Daniel Webber, Elias Anton, Isabelle Cornish and Phoenix Raei..
Speaking to If, Foxtel's Head of Drama Penny Win described the feature, set in Brisbane over 12 hours, as "the other side of Australia Day".
"It.s been with us for two or three years, long before the current topical discussion of racism in Australia. It.s showing Australia Day from the other side. It.s about an Australian farmer, a Chinese illegal immigrant, a Persian family and an Indigenous girl. The structure of it is very like [2004 Oscar winner] Crash.

Screen Australia says it has not mismanaged its finances by spending its annual production funding in just six months - a state of affairs which it says reflects the strength of the local film industry.
The government screen agency revealed in mid-December 2012 that it had spent its entire annual $42 million drama production allocation due to the unprecedented number of quality feature film and television projects seeking support. The shock announcement was reminiscent of the agency's abrupt decision to cut its investment cap in 2009 while several films were mid-financed. That decision.threw several major Australian productions into dissaray including The Tree and the biggest box office hit of.2010, Tomorrow When the War Began (Omnilab Media had to increase its investment at the last minute to ensure production).
Overspending on such a scale has never occurred before, even going back to the era of Screen Australia.s predecessor funding arm, the Film Finance Corporation.
