Duane McLaughlin is the grandson of Master Chief Carl Maxie Brashear, the first African American U.S. Navy Master Diver. Brashear's incredible life story was made into a feature film entitled, Men of Honor (2000), released by 20th Century Fox in 2000, starring Robert De Niro and Cuba Gooding Jr..
Duane McLaughlin is an activist and ambassador for many charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida and the New York Police and Fire Widow's and Children's Benefit Fund.
