The residents of the sleepy hamlet of Chadwicks, New York, had long suspected there was something different about the Word of Life Christian Church - even before the night of Oct. 11, 2015, when two teenage brothers were savagely beaten over a dozen hours inside the church's sanctuary room, according to police. Several neighbors tell People they had figured the secretive sect was a cult, but were never able to confirm their suspicions. "They weren't friendly, and I had no idea what was going on in there," explains 85-year-old Ray Toukatly, a retired utility company worker who fought in the Korean War...

Clinton, N.Y. — Drug charges against Jon Bon Jovi's 19-year-old daughter have been dropped, a central New York prosecutor said Thursday.
Stephanie Bongiovi was found unresponsive by medics after she apparently overdosed on heroin in a Hamilton College dorm early Wednesday. Town of Kirkland police charged Bongiovi, of Red Bank, N.J., and fellow student Ian Grant, also of Red Bank, with possession of a small amount of heroin and marijuana.
Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara said he was dismissing the charges against both students. Under state law, someone having a drug overdose or seeking help for an overdose victim can't be prosecuted for having a small amount of heroin or any amount of marijuana.
The so-called Good Samaritan 911 law signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in July 2011 was designed to reduce overdose deaths by encouraging people to call 911 without fear of being arrested for drug possession. Similar laws...
