James Van Der Beek and Kerr Smith are looking back at filming Dawson’s Creek and recalled some death-defying experiences they had on jet skis at the time.
This week, the two actors told People magazine at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, that things would sometimes get a bit wild behind the scenes of the hit teen drama when they were filming in Wilmington, North Carolina.
“A couple of the guys on the crew had boats and you know we had the guest stars come in and the writers come in every episode and we would take them out on the water on the weekends,” Smith, who played Jack McPhee, recalled. “We’d stop and eat crab in the morning yet. And we’d fill up the boats with whatever we needed. We would barbecue out on the island. We all had jet skis.”

Dawson’s Creek recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, and fans of The WB series simply couldn’t believe it. Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and James Van Der Beek were a few of the talented actors cast to play the doe-eyed teens in Dawson’s Creek.

Appearing alongside them and playing a bit of a more controversial character was Michelle Williams. Well over two decades later, Williams admits that she may have taken Dawson’s Creek “a little too seriously.”

It’s been 25 years “Dawson’s Creek” premiered. In honour of the huge milestone, Dawson himself, James Van Der Beek, took to Instagram to reflect on the show that made him a star.
“25 years ago today… my life changed. Not gradually, not day-by-day… instantly,” Van Der Beek wrote alongside a throwback pic of himself. “It was the culmination of 5 years of auditioning, hundreds of hours on stage, thousands of hours traveling, preparing, dreaming, hoping, hearing ‘no,’ and making up reasons to keep going. But the shift was overnight.”

Little Fires Everywhere has no shortage of plot twists. Between infidelity, adolescent obstacles, and heated custody battles, there's a lot going on. Perhaps the most surprising revelation, however, involves a cameo that never even came to fruition: in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Liz Tigelaar revealed the limited series almost featured a Dawson's Creek reunion. "I Don't Want to Wait" softly plays in the background.
"It was going to be too distracting for Jack and Pacey to be reunited."
As many viewers will already know, Joshua Jackson, who portrays patriarch Bill Richardson on Little Fires, famously played Pacey Witter on Dawson's Creek. We've now just discovered that Tigelaar, who actually got her start as an assistant on the early-aughts teen drama, was also close to casting fellow alum Kerr Smith, who portrayed Jack McPhee, on Little Fires. I don't know how many of you watched Dawson's Creek when you were growing up, but it is an iconic teen drama from late 90s early 2000s that had a huge following, so chances are some of you watched the coming-of-age drama. You don't have to admit it if you don't want to! I'm not going to admit it.

It took until 2018 for a major studio to produce a movie with a gay teen lead; that 20th Century Fox’s “Love, Simon” is a romantic comedy about coming out makes it even sweeter. Adult Lgbtq filmgoers got to see a story that looks even a little bit like their own, while knowing the impact it will have on a younger generation. Much like the movie’s director, teen television superstar, Greg Berlanti, they remember a time when the only queer people onscreen were psychopaths or murder victims.
Best known for teen comic-book shows like “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” and “Riverdale,” Berlanti got his start with the original “edgy” teen drama: “Dawson’s Creek.” That show was the first time Berlanti broke barriers, when he lobbied for network television’s first romantic kiss between men (Prior to that, “Will and Grace” showed a peck.) Jack McPhee has gone gray! It's been a while since we've seen Kerr Smith, who played Michelle Williams' gay Bff on "Dawson's Creek," but he's back on TV this summer with a guest starring role on ABC Family's "The Fosters."The actor, now 42, made his first appearance in the Season Two opener as the biological father of Maia Mitchell's character, Callie. But seeing him play the salt-and-pepper haired father of a 16-year-old definitely comes as a surprise to fans of the WB drama -- and Kerr himself!"As an actor it's a very strange adjustment to start playing the father," he said in a recent interview with Zap2It. "I was used to playing a kid my whole life and then all of a sudden, it's like, boom. I guess when I let my hair go grey things changed."Bailee Madison also joins the show this season as Smith's other daughter,...

Silver fox alert! Technically, Kerr Smith was already all grown up (as actors playing teens tend to be) when he played Jack McPhee, gay Bff to Michelle Williams' Jen Lindley on the hit teen drama Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2003. But he's really all grown up now—and entering George Clooney territory. The 41-year-old actor (he's five years older than the creek master himself, James Van Der Beek) has been rocking gray hair for a while now, as evidenced by this pic, taken in July at the grand opening of Del Frisco's Grille in Santa Monica, Calif. He's still super handsome, but we can't help but remember him as the dark-haired, sometimes-brooding,...

Dawson’s Creek. Jack & Bobby. Everwood. Brothers & Sisters. Political Animals. Arrow.
The one thing all these memorable series (and more than a few others) have in common is one man – Greg Berlanti.
The out writer/producer/director burst onto the TV landscape back when he wrote many of the key episodes of Dawson’s dealing with the coming out of Jack McPhee (Kerr Smith). Since then he has regularly featured gay characters and stories in his work but admirably also hasn’t forced them into shows (like last season’s Golden Boy) where they didn’t necessarily fit creatively.
As his latest series, the CW’s The Tomorrow People, readies to premiere in October with star Robbie Amell (cousin to Arrow’s Stephen Amell), Berlanti sat down with us to talk about his career, his thoughts on gay characters and whether we’ll see any in his latest show.

American television is a medium notorious for its terrible representation of essentially every minority ever known – want a sitcom about how hard and wacky it is to be a man’s man in 2013? Hit up Tim Allen’s IMDb page. Anything else, however, is a bit harder to locate – but that doesn’t mean there’s a complete lack of diversity.
Gay and lesbian characters, especially, have seen a comforting resurgence in the past fifteen or so years – they’re not everywhere you look, but their numbers are steadily increasing. Even better: it’s not nearly as difficult for a confused, gay teenager to locate an arc similar to his or her own life on one of the thousand channels available with any standard cable package. Audiences of all walks of life are falling in love with the gay teenagers on their screens– not because they’re gay, but because they’re compelling,...

Because someone up there loves me, Russell Brand did not get the top two spots at the box office, with Hannah edging out Arthur for the #2 slot once all the money was counted. Your Highness, which I thought was mediocre at best (but not homophobic), came in at a disappointing #9.

Lets face it, as television viewers we grow attached to the gay characters that resonate with us on the small screen, and with the actors that bring life to these roles. We also find ourselves growing fond of out-and-proud actors that have opted to play it straight thats why its called acting, people and vice versa.
So when their shows are cancelled or taken off the air before they wear out their welcome (whatever, I still miss Sex and the City on Sunday nights, ok?), it can be a little bit difficult to see them slide into other TV roles easier than Lindsay Lohan checking into another rehab (Im rootin for you, girl).
Alas, sometimes that isnt always the case, which might have you asking yourself, Where are they now? In some cases for these actors, it could be taken as a query of, Where did they disappear to?
But for curiosity's (and manner's) sake,...

"The Vampire Diaries" has become extra-twisty now that we've learned that resident alpha-wolf Mason Lockwood (Taylor Kinney) is sleeping with resident crazy evil psycho Katherine (Nina Dobrev). It seems like everyone in this town is making out with one another!
Executive Producer Kevin Williamson spoke with Jim Halterman about who definitely won't be hooking up.
If you've noticed that Tyler (Michael Trevino) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) are spending a little extra time together this season, don't read too much into it. Their bromance has zero chance of turning into a romance. "Well, certainly not with those two characters, I'm sad to say," Williamson says. "So we'll just have to dream about that."
That's not to say that there won't be any gay characters popping into town - it just won't be someone we already know. Williamson isn't interested in telling a coming out story, as he did it years...

We asked you which gay or bisexual TV characters you think are the best, and you told us – with tens of thousands of votes cast.
Now we have the results.
But first, a few interesting statistics.
We have quite a few familiar faces – characters who made our last poll of the best gay and bisexual characters two and a half years ago – and a few missing ones, namely Vince D’Angelo (from Will & Grace), George Huang (from Law & Order: Svu), and Waylon Smithers (from The Simpsons), all of whom didn’t even make the top 50 this time around.
Meanwhile, we also have many new faces – from shows that have debuted since our last poll.
Every single character except two comes from a show that ran in the 00s (although some shows, like Will & Grace, did debut in the late 90s). The exceptions? Jodie Dallas, played by Billy Crystal, on Soap...

The Vampire Diaries were feted at the Paley Center, and there’s still nothing gay going on. And if there’s nothing gay, I’m a little upset with producer Kevin Williamson for thinking they’re overdoing the “nudity” with the male vamps. You gotta give us something until we get our immortal Jack McPhee because let’s face it, this show is nothing but Dawson’s Creek with vampires.
I’ll just be blunt (I know that’s so rare for me): Rosanne Barr needs to shut up. I have a new favorite television character. For a while there, Brandon Walsh was my favorite. Then when Tiffany Amber Thiessen came to 90210, Valerie Malone stole Brandon's spot. I had had enough of his goodie-goodie routine and was onto something with some edge. Then I went soft for Rachel Green. While I was on Rachel, I flirted with the idea of Jack McPhee on Dawson's Creek. After these two, I fell for Edie Falco's Carmela Soprano. But, now I have a new one: Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson from The Closer.
When The Closer was advertised as a new television series four years ago, it didn't look that interesting to me. In fact, I paid so little attention that I kept thinking: "Nearer to what?" Once I became aware of the hard letter "s," the show still didn't seem worth a watch. After all, I was a Law & Order fan.

Kerr Smith, who is famous for playing the role of Jack McPhee in TV series "Dawson's Creek", has filed for divorce from his wife of more than five years Harmoni Everett. TMZ which is the first to make public report on that matter says the actor cites irreconcilable differences.
Kerr Smith and Harmoni Everett were married in June 2003. They have no children. As of press time, more details concerning their divorce are yet shared and neither of them has made a single statement about their reported separation.
