2024 is going to be light on superhero movies (relatively speaking) but comic book cinema will be present on the big screen on Valentine's Day. Sony's latest "Spider-Man" spin-off movie "Madame Web" is hitting theaters, introducing several brand new spider-heroes into the ever-growing Marvel multiverse.
Following in the footsteps of movies like "Venom" and "Morbius," as well as this year's "Kraven the Hunter," Sony is once again making the most of the Marvel Comics characters it has the rights to in the larger "Spider-Man" franchise. Specifically, it sees Dakota Johnson bring Cassandra Web, aka Madame Webb, to life alongside an impressive supporting cast.
But is this a one-and-done? Or is the studio setting up more for the future? We're going to discuss the movie's post-credits scene situation in spoiler-free fashion. Seriously, we're not going to spoil anything. We're just here to arm you with information so you can be ready on opening weekend.

Sony Pictures has unwound the first trailer for its upcoming Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web.
S.J. Clarkson’s feature is part of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters and set to hit theaters Feb. 14, 2024, just in time for Valentine’s Day dates. Dakota Johnson stars in the titular role based on the Marvel comic book character named Cassandra Webb, who is a clairvoyant mutant and can foresee the future for Spider-themed heroes.
Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts and Adam Scott round out the cast.
The trailer was released Wednesday and shows Johnson having mysterious encounters with a man from her mother’s past. “I’ve been having visions,” she says in the footage. “If you want to live, you have to trust me.”
Clarkson (Anatomy of a Scandal) directed the film and co-wrote the script with Claire Parker, with the story by Kerem Sanga.

The first trailer for Sony’s “Madame Web” has arrived, and Dakota Johnson’s Cassandra Webb is stressed. Of course, that could be because she’s suddenly seeing the future and meeting a whole lot of superpowered spider-people — both good and bad.
The trailer begins with Johnson entering a diner, demanding three young girls — Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced and Celeste O’Connor — grab their things and leave with her. Of course, that’s quickly interrupted when a man in a spider suit enters and attacks. That man is Ezekiel Sims, a villain often associated with Spider-Man and Silk.
He seemingly kills Cassandra Webb — until he doesn’t. Suddenly, she’s back outside the diner, ominously declaring “Let’s try that again.”
You can watch the trailer for the movie in the video above.
So, is Madame Web a time traveler? No. She’s just clairvoyant, and newly so. After an accident...

Serena Williams isn’t opposed to a King Richard sequel.
In an interview with Insider, the tennis star mentioned how she’s interested in the story of her and her sister expanded upon in theaters. There’s definitely more to the story as Serena has her own journey to success that of course isn’t the same as from her sister’s.
“King Richard had a perfect ending with Venus on the tennis court. Venus goes in her direction, and I go in my direction,” Serena explained. “It’s two completely different stories.” However, reliving those moments of her life could prove difficult for Williams to watch.
“I had a rough journey,” she said. “I didn’t do well and then I did. It’s a lot of drama. It’s a telenovela.”

With King Richard, director Reinaldo Marcus Green and screenwriter Zach Baylin looked to tell the story of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, and of the parents who spurred them to greatness, honing in less on the public record of the sisters’ accomplishments in the sports world and more on lesser-known aspects of their personal history.
“There are many iconic moments in their life, and I think we worked hard to try to find the moments we didn’t know,” said Baylin during Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles award-season event. “Really what happened inside the house and not just the SportsCenter highlights of their life and career.”

Tom Hanks starrer Finch will debut on Apple TV+ on November 5, Apple Original Films said Thursdayt. Check out the first-look image below.
In the film directed by Miguel Sapochnik, the Oscar-winning Hanks plays a robotics engineer who is among the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event. While that event left the world a wasteland, Finch has built a world of his own in the time since, which he shares with his beloved dog, Goodyear. Also living with Finch in his underground bunker is a robot (played by Caleb Landry Jones) that he’s built to watch over Goodyear when he no longer can.
Ultimately, the trio embarks on a road trip into a desolate American West, and while on this journey, Finch looks to show his creation — who has named himself Jeff — the joy and wonder that come with being alive.

Exclusive: Tony Goldwyn is taking over for Liev Schreiber in Warner Bros.’ King Richard which is set to return to production in Los Angeles next week after pausing due to the pandemic earlier this spring.
Goldwyn is stepping in to play the role of Paul Cohen, a noted tennis coach whose clients included John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, and Venus and Serena Williams. I understand that Schreiber had to depart King Richard given a scheduling conflict.
The Reinaldo Marcus Green directed, Zach Baylin written feature follows the true story of hardscrabble, but iron-willed father of Venus and Serena Williams, (played by Will Smith) who had a plan to make his daughters the greatest tennis players in the world. This is how he pulled it off. The movie already logged three weeks of filming before stopping out of safety due to Covid-19.

Universal Pictures said on Friday that the studio has pushed the release of its heartfelt Tom Hanks-led sci-fi film “Bios” to April 2021.
The film was initially set to hit theaters on Oct. 2, 2020 but will now premiere on April 16, 2021. The news comes after Warner Bros. shifted a major portion of its future slate, including moving “Wonder Woman 1984” to Oct. 2, 2020, from its August release date.
“Bios” tells the story of a man, a robot and a dog who form an unlikely family. Hanks stars as Finch, a robotics engineer and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event that has left the world a wasteland. But Finch, who has been living in an underground bunker for decades, has built a world of his own that he shares with his dog, Goodyear.

Universal/Amblin’s Bios is the first to move off Oct. 2 after Warner Bros. plopped Wonder Woman 1984 on that new date, and will now go on April 16, 2021. Uni already had April 16 on hold with untitled event movie.
Already on that date is the Warner Bros. Lisa Joy-directed sci-fi film Reminiscence which stars Hugh Jackman, Thandie Newton and Rebecca Ferguson.
Bios‘ departure from Oct. 2 leaves Paramount’s Tom Clancy movie Without Remorse standing next to Wonder Woman 1984.
With New York theaters and some prime offshore territories not really open yet, Warner Bros. made some seismic release date changes which has everyone jumping in response. In 1987, five young men, using brutally honest rhymes and hardcore beats, put their frustration and anger about life in the most dangerous place in America into the most powerful weapon they had: their music.
Taking us back to where it all began, Straight Outta Compton tells the true story of how these cultural rebels—armed only with their lyrics, swagger, bravado and raw talent—stood up to the authorities that meant to keep them down and formed the world’s most dangerous group, N.W.A.
And as they spoke the truth that no one had before and exposed life in the hood, their voice ignited a social revolution that is still reverberating Today.

Exclusive: Deadline revealed exclusively Friday that longtime UTA Production Department co-head Wayne Fitterman had left that agency and was in talks to land at Wme. I have confirmed that he has now officially joined Wme as a partner and that he will head Wme’s Production Department. As I wrote, Fitterman had expected to bring three of his cohorts along with him. UTA staved off that coup, but Fitterman brings 46 clients with him so far, with a lot more hanging in the balance. This is an unsung part of the business, covering cinematographers, editors, line producers, production designers, costume designers, and visual effects supervisors. But it’s important. Aside from making piles of money, the department is a breeding ground for first-time directors. Among the clients Fitterman has brought with him are Jenny Beavan (The King’s Speech), Mark Bridges (The Artist), Bruno Delbonnel (Inside Llewyn Davis), Robert Elswit (There Will Be Blood...

That's right — "Lee Daniels' The Butler" has 39 credited producers to its name, and it isn't just Lee Daniels 39 times. We're not sure if this is a record, but we are sure that it's a lot of f**king producers.
So what, exactly, did each producer do for the movie? In a NextMovie exclusive, we've obtained a verified* list of the various roles each producer filled during the production of the film. Needless to say, each was wholly necessary to the quality of the end result.
*Note: By "verified" we mean "not verified."
Horatio Bacon: Responsible for convincing director Lee Daniels to not film the movie in 3D.
Julia Barry: Responsible with supplying the production office with the proper Nerf guns for anticipated downtime.
Len Blavatnik: Responsible for assaulting any "nerd" who insists on putting another "s" after the apostrophe in the film's title.
Charles Sauveur Bonan:...

The Weinstein Company has picked up distribution rights to his star-studded period drama The Butler, directed by Precious helmer Lee Daniels.
Based on the screenplay by Danny Strong (who just won an Emmy last night for Game Change) and Daniels, The Butler is inspired by Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article about an African-American man who served as a butler (Forest Whitaker) to eight Presidents such as Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon in the White House for over thirty years.
Obviously, Harvey Weinstein has liked what he’s seen of the footage. The film, which has been shooting down in New Orleans for weeks, also stars Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrence Howard, Minka Kelly, Lenny Kravitz, Melissa Leo, James Marsden, David Oyelowo, Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Redgrave, Alan Rickman, Liev Schreiber and Robin Williams.
