The Pasadena Tournament of Roses announced on Thursday that, after canceling the event in July due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organization will host a two-hour televised entertainment special on New Year’s Day to benefit Feeding America.
Event coordinators issued a statement saying they have partnered with a group of broadcasters to air the show during the time slot traditionally reserved for live coverage of the Rose Parade.
The show will air on ABC, the Hallmark Channel, Ktla, NBC, Rfd-tv and Univision on Jan. 1 at 8 a.m. The parade is usually broadcast on several networks nationally, including ABC, NBC, Univision and Hallmark Channel, as well as its longtime home in Los Angeles Ktla-tv.
The Parade will feature live-to-tape musical entertainment, celebrity guests, memorable past floats, marching band performances and past Rose Bowl Game football highlights. Details on the performance lineup, entertainment segments and celebrity appearances are yet to be announced.

The famed Rose Parade in Pasadena held each New Year’s Day has been canceled for 2021, with organizers the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association saying Wednesday that restrictions in California’s now-paused phased reopening because of the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to host the event, which would have been its 132nd edition.
It will mark only the fourth time the parade along the famed five-mile stretch of Colorado Boulevard will not take place since its inception in 1891 — World War II put a halt to it in 1942, 1943 and 1945.
The association also hosts college football’s Rose Bowl Game each January 1. Planning for this year’s game, scheduled to be a semifinal in the College Football Playoff, remains ongoing.
“The health and well-being of our parade participants and guests, as well as that of our volunteer members, professional staff and partners, is our number one priority,” said Bob Miller, president of the association.

Michael J. Fox is proving to be as passionate about writing as he is about acting.
The Emmy award-winning actor announced on Thursday that he’s written his fourth book, No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality, which will be released on Nov. 17, 2020, by Flatiron Books.
“What’s exciting for me is that this new book is less memoir and more perspective — I consider questions I believe we all have about our lives,” Fox, 58, tells People in an exclusive statement. “Who am I? Where am I? Where am I going? I don’t want to give anything away,...

The writer seated across from me seemed at once pleased but tense. “I want to be sure you understand that I have no personal knowledge of the characters I’ve written about,” he cautioned. “I have never met a member of the Mafia. I come from an Italian family but we talk about books, not hit jobs…. My insight into the Mafia comes from the library.”
On behalf of Paramount, I had just paid Mario Puzo $35,000 to option The Godfather. Neither of us could realize that the deal would set the stage for an historic bestseller and movie. But Mario Puzo’s cautionary comments of 50 years ago seem persuasively relevant to a controversy that’s spilling over today from publishing to TV and film.

The Television Academy said today that its 2018 Los Angeles Area Emmys Governors Award will go to PBS SoCal’s “American Graduate: Let’s Make it Happen” initiative. Created by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 2011, the five-year program will be recognized for its work focusing and maximizing community resources to tackle Southern California’s high school dropout crisis.
Through the initiative, PBS SoCal connected community leaders through 20 different neighborhood conversations and two broadcast town halls to discuss community-based solutions for the dropout challenge. The initiative resulted in more than 75 million impressions across the region.
The honor will be presented during the 70th annual Los Angeles Area Emmys on Saturday, July 28, at the Academy’s Wolf Theatre at the Saban Media Center.
