Kieran Culkin and Pedro Pascal clearly used the 2024 award season to keep their bromance-turned-playful feud alive.
Now that the season is (finally!) over, The Hollywood Reporter is taking a closer look at the interactions between the pair, who competed for several awards for best male actor in a drama series for their roles in Succession and The Last of Us, respectively. Pedro Pascal has been acting professionally since the 1990s, but there's no denying he's been exploding in popularity over the last few years. Not only is he the titular star of "The Mandalorian," but he's also Joel Miller on "The Last Of Us," the new Reed Richards in Marvel's reboot of "Fantastic Four," and will also appear in Ridley Scott's highly-anticipated "Gladiator 2." But what makes Pascal such an endearing performer is that he's not limited to just playing huge roles — he also loves popping up into random movies and TV shows to have a little fun. One of the latest examples is in Tricia Cooke and Ethan Coen's "Drive-Away Dolls," where trailers depicted Pedro Pascal as Santos, a mysterious man carrying a briefcase who winds up as a "suave head in a hatbox."

Pascal credits the show’s creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, for taking a chance on him when he was still a relative unknown. He believes that without that breakout opportunity, he may not have landed major follow-up roles in shows like Narcos, The Mandalorian, and his latest hit, The Last of Us.

As the new Reed Richards in Marvel’s Fantastic Four, Pedro Pascal must be convinced as the most intelligent mind in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Pascal’s “psychotic” yet ingenious ritual for completely memorizing all script dialogue shows he has the sheer brilliance to pull it off.
Pedro Pascal’s “Psychotic” Process for Memorizing Dialogue
Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984.
In conversation with a panel of the SAG AFTRA foundation, Pedro Pascal gave insight into his extreme process for imprinting lines word-for-word, explaining :
“This psychotic example, a physical example that I have now, that I have to do to learn my lines.”
His approach involves vigorously scribbling down pages of abstract shorthand and cues representing every single line.
Though the elaborate pages of scribbles appear nonsensical to outsiders, this ritual helps Pascal thoroughly commit dialogue to memory. It was forged early in his career after a traumatic on-set experience.

Marvel Studios knows how to get fans’ attention towards its upcoming projects. Recently creating a buzz surrounding The Fantastic Four, Marvel shared a Valentine’s Day card-themed announcement via Instagram, featuring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn. The post visibly promoted the undeniable chemistry between Pascal and Kirby’s character.
Vanessa Kirby in Mission Impossible 7
It seems Marvel Studios is going to focus on Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm’s long-lasting relationship in The Fantastic Four. But meanwhile, fans seem to ship Kirby’s Sue Storm with another MCU character of Latin heritage. It’s none other than Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, with whom Sue had a brief romance as per the comics.

A big announcement about Marvel’s first family was made on Valentine’s Day this year. The cast of The Fantastic Four, which stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, Vanesa Kirby as Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch, was finally revealed.

HBO’s The Last of Us brought the hit video game to the small screen, and it wouldn’t have been the same without Pedro Pascal. Pascal plays Joel Miller, a man who lost his daughter in the apocalypse and was then tasked with a mission involving 14-year-old Ellie. The Last of Us was a massive success for HBO, but showrunner Craig Mazin told Entertainment Weekly that he’s accepted that the second season will piss some people off. I won’t dive into any spoilers, but if you’ve played The Last of Us Part II, you likely know what Mazin is referring to.
It’s too early to say just how closely The Last of Us season two will follow the second game, and Craig Mazin isn’t about to say. “I’m never gonna say there are things that are gonna happen in the show that happened in the game. You never know what we’re gonna do,” Mazin said. “But I will say that it is the adventure, the journey is the point. There are things that will shock people, things that were in the game, things that were not in the game, and that’s okay.

Hit HBO series The Last of Us could have looked very different. Showrunner Craig Mazin has revealed that Matthew McConaughey was in talks to play the lead role of Joel Miller before its eventual star Pedro Pascal. “I did talk to Matthew. I can’t say that it was like a series [of conversations]. It was more a case of ‘Hey, here’s something to talk about,'” he explained during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz. “Pedro was on our list from the start. We were told he was unavailable, and then as we were floundering about a little bit, I got a call from his [McConaughey’s] agent who said, ‘You know, he actually might be available.'” Mazin oversaw the hit series with Neil Druckmann, who created the 2013 video game on which it is based. The Last of Us, which debuted on HBO in January 2023, co-starred Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" sequel is quickly becoming one of the most exciting upcoming projects on the horizon in Hollywood, with a cast list that just keeps getting better. According to Deadline, "The Last Of Us" and "The Mandalorian" star Pedro Pascal has just joined the cast list. Pascal joins a growing call sheet of extremely popular and buzzed-about actors including Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, and Barry Keoghan, not to mention A-lister Denzel Washington and returning star Connie Nielsen.
The "Gladiator" sequel remains untitled, and details about the role Pascal will play are equally scarce. Early reports indicate that the story will follow Lucius, the nephew of the nefarious Commodus, who was played by Joaquin Phoenix in 2000's Academy Award Best Picture-winning film. Mescal, star of acclaimed projects like "Aftersun" and "Normal People," takes on the Lucius role, while Washington is taking on a role that Scott reportedly built just for him.

Pedro Pascal is the latest A-lister in talks to join Ridley Scott’s upcoming “Gladiator” sequel.
Pascal, who stars in both “The Mandalorian” and “The Last of Us,” is in final negotiations to board the Paramount movie, which already boasts a cast including Academy Award nominees Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan, as well as two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington.
The Paramount movie follows 2000’s blockbuster hit “Gladiator,” which was nominated for 12 Academy Awards and won five, including best picture. It earned $460 million at the box office.
The original film starred Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a Roman soldier forced into slavery who vows revenge against Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Since Maximus dies at the end of “Gladiator,” the yet-to-be-titled sequel focuses on Lucius (Mescal), the son of Lucilla.

Pedro Pascal has become the Latinx sweetheart of this moment. Many Latinx American households have long been familiar with the Chilean-born American actor thanks to his impressive acting credentials and charismatic personality. In recent years, Pascal has risen to worldwide fame for his appearances in "Game of Thrones," and alongside Bella Ramsey in HBO's hit drama "The Last of Us." We can't help but stan not only for his charm, but it's also great to see a Latino in the public eye helping to eliminate toxic machismo and combating transphobia in Latinx culture as an ally. Pascal has been fiercely supportive of the LGBTQ+ community - notably championing his sister Lux, who is trans. He claims she is "one of the most powerful people" he's ever known.

This post contains spoilers for "The Last of Us Part II."
HBO's "The Last of Us" managed to create a compelling video game adaptation by adhering to the dual strategy of staying true to the roots of the game while expanding upon aspects that warranted greater narrative depth. This approach has worked in the show's favor so far, as reflected in the overwhelmingly positive response towards episodes like "Long, Long Time" and "Endure and Survive," which fleshed out backstories for supporting characters in meaningful ways. A good adaptation always finds ways to improve upon its source material, and "The Last of Us" has succeeded in doing so thanks to the passionate involvement of series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who innately understand the heart of this tragic apocalyptic tale.

This article contains spoilers for The Last of Us Part 2 game.
HBO’s live-action adaptation of The Last of Us wowed audiences and demonstrated that, with the right team, you can turn a beloved video game into an equally beloved TV show. While the HBO show’s accuracy to the source material was seen as one of its best features, it seems there’s a small chance that Season 2 could play with The Last of Us Part 2‘s biggest twist.
Recently, Esquire published an article about Pedro Pascal’s many successes. Everything from The Mandalorian to The Last of Us was up for discussion, and, of course, the subject of The Last of Us’ next season was eventually broached. As suspected, that season will be based on The Last of Us Part 2: a game in which Pascal’s character, Joel Miller, dies quite a brutal death fairly early on.

If you’ve been on social media in 2023, chances are you’ve seen Pedro Pascal … a lot. That’s a good sign for him at the MTV Movie and TV Awards, which are decided by fans voting online. He earned a pair of nominations this year for his performance in “The Last of Us.” Can he win them both?
Pascal rose to prominence as Westeros’s favorite bisexual antihero Oberyn Martell on “Game of Thrones,” but even as popular as that show was, the actor didn’t ascend to meme status until more recently. He now plays the title bounty hunter in the “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian,” where he seldom shows his face, but most recently he appeared — mask off — as Joel Miller in HBO’s adaptation of the iconic video game “The Last of Us.” As the protective caretaker of a girl who could hold the key to reversing the apocalypse,...

Pedro Pascal has been a bonafide Hollywood star for years now, harking back to his earlier stints on shows like “Game of Thrones” and “Narcos.” But that has only been elevated this year, given his widely acclaimed turns on Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” and HBO’s “The Last of Us” — not to mention his magnificent hosting performance on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” this season. With three potential categories for Pascal to shine, it would be unfathomable to imagine an Emmy acting lineup without the inclusion of the Chilean superstar.
Three wildly different Pascal performances are available for the Television Academy to consider.
With “The Last of Us,” an adaptation of the popular videogame series, Pascal stars as Joel Miller, a hardened survivor of a global pandemic that finds a vulnerability in 14-year-old Ellie (played remarkably by lead actress drama candidate Bella Ramsey). This post contains spoilers for HBO's "The Last of Us" series.
After a long history of trial and error, HBO's "The Last of Us" series has finally set a new standard for the live-action video game adaptation. For the most part, it achieved a key balance between faithfully honoring the source material while also making necessary changes to fit the new medium of prestige television, allowing for both versions of this story to stand on their own with distinct strengths and weaknesses.
One specific way the show honors the source material is something we'd actually like to see become a norm — while "The Last of Us" series had new actors step into the roles of Joel Miller, Ellie Williams, and the survivors they meet on their apocalyptic adventure, Mazin and Druckmann also made space for the game's original performers to take on new roles in the show as well. These days, Pedro Pascal is one of the internet’s favorite stars. In just a few years, the actor has arisen from a breakout star of Narcos to a legitimate leading man. Nope, this isn’t the new Bong Joon-ho movie, but a 3-D oldie from 1982. Although it’s by no means a great picture, fans equipped for Blu-ray 3-D will want to take a look — the depth effects fashioned with the over’n’under Sterevision system are some of the best yet. Stan Winston provides director Charles Band with the ‘Alien’ rip-off title critters, and added interest is provided via an early appearance by Demi Moore, who sleepwalks through her part but certainly looks good. A full complement of extras tell the making-of story; the feature is also encoded in 2-D, for really imaginative viewers.

Last week, Ariel Contreras-Fox and Mia Castro won the reward challenge with their versions of Eggs Benedict. But rookie Mia’s tendency to space out during dinner service got the best of her again. She and veteran Heather Williams were both up for elimination. But Heather’s food sins were more egregious and she justly got the boot. But it was rookie Motto who stepped up his game and got the service back on track. Mia and Ariel, the favorites to go all the way, should keep an eye on this guy. Below, check out our minute-by-minute recap of “Hell’s Kitchen” Season 18, Episode 14.
