While he may be boozing it up with Johnny Depp in "Rum Diary," looks like Aaron Eckhart is California Dreamin'.
Variety reports that Eckhart will be playing the Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson in Randy Miller's biopic "The Drummer."
The film chronicles Wilson's final six years before his death in 1983. "There's a discovery about Dennis with this film," Miller told Variety. "Everybody knows Brian, but nobody really knows Dennis' music."
It was a tall order to find someone who had the music and acting chops to play the legend, Miller said.
Eckhart, who will next headline "I, Frankenstein," will fully immerse himself in Wilson's character by recording renditions from his only solo album "Pacific Ocean Blue."
Filming is scheduled to begin summer 2012.

The upcoming live action version of the classic tale Jack and the Beanstalk, starring Chevy Chase and Christopher Lloyd, gets an original score by Randy Miller, a versatile composer whose previous credits include Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth and who has orchestrated and conducted scores such as The Fast and the Furious and Driven. The film is directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe, a make-up effects wizard who also worked on Hellraiser III and a lot of other genre movies, including Sleepy Hollow, Blade and Exorcist: The Beginning. Randy Miller has also composed the music for Uncross the Stars, a drama comedy starring Ron Perlman and Barbara Hershey, directed by Kenny Golde.
