This week saw the battle lines move to a new front: Rockland County, New York, where a second-grade teacher at the George W. Miller Elementary School in Nanuet committed what some call an unforgivable act of Yuletide sacrilege.

Christmas has a hell of a PR agent. A good PR maximises the audience for their client, always looking for lateral markets beyond the core appeal of the product. So if Christmas is fundamentally about giving, goodwill and forgiveness, there's no harm - from a PR's point of view - if it can also be made to be about sex, death and loneliness too. Friday the 13th is arguably the king of all slasher flicks. While it didn’t pioneer the genre, it did perfect it and is mainly responsible for the balloon of horror films throughout the 80s and early 90s. However, it’s no secret that the franchise has since faded away – ultimately becoming a parody of itself with Jason X. Enter Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form, the trio behind the Platinum Dunes production company. Dunes’ main goal has been to rejuvenate dead franchises and make them cool again, and while they’ve all but failed before with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Amityville Horror and The Hitcher remakes, Friday the 13th is their first success.
