Writer Stefani Robinson is an admitted overachiever. In 2016, on the strength of a spec script, “Lola and the Afterlife,” about the ghost of dead girl stuck in limbo in Boston, she landed a meeting with Donald Glover on FX series “Atlanta” and was promptly hired for the Season 1 writer’s room. The day before she turned up for work, she had been grabbing coffee as an agent’s assistant.
She was the youngest member and only woman in the writers room, joining a team who already knew each other. But it was Robinson who landed a writing Emmy nomination for Season 1; the show took home two WGA awards. While she continued on “Atlanta” until the 2022 Season 4 finale, executive producer Paul Simms also took her with him to co-showrun 2019 TV series “What We Do in the Shadows,” based on the quirky vampire film by Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi.

The 94th Academy Awards have blessed Jessica Chastain with her first career Oscar. The actress accepted the best lead actress prize for her work in The Eyes of Tammy Faye on Sunday. During her acceptance speech, Chastain touched on current social issues of discrimination, violence, bigotry and division.
“We’re faced with discriminatory and bigoted legislation that is sweeping our country with the only goal of further dividing us. There’s violence and hate crimes being perpetuated on innocent civilians all over the world,” she said. “In times like this, I think of Tammy and I’m inspired by her radical acts of love. I’m inspired by her compassion. I see it as a guiding principle that moves us forward.”

Exclusive: Decades before Julian Assange and Edward Snowden became the scourge of U.S. intelligence organizations by leaking secret documents, an unheralded group of eight anti-war activists broke into an FBI branch office one night in Philadelphia and made off with a treasure trove of classified documents they fed to newspapers that bared the ruthlessness displayed by the FBI in spying on and blackmailing those it considered troublemakers. Summit Entertainment has teamed with Participant Media to acquire the rights to tell the story of those bandits, acquiring the Betty Medsger book The Burglary: The Discovery Of J. Female drivers were surprisingly instrumental in the founding of Nascar just after WWII. A forgotten forerunner of contemporary female drivers like Danica Patrick, Smith was the quintessential small-town girl with big dreams who smashed through the gender preconceptions of the time to ultimately race at the famed Daytona Beach road course and helped secure the initial funding for what would become the billion-dollar sports giant Nascar. Jesse Wigutow has been tapped to rewrite Summit's "The Osterman Weekend," the remake of the 1983 Sam Peckinpah thriller. Robert Schwentke is directing.
In the reboot, on the eve of an annual weekend getaway with friends, a man is visited by a reporter who tells him his friends aren't who he thinks they are. When the reporter turns up dead, the man gets caught in downward spiral of doubt and paranoia and, ultimately, a desperate fight to stay alive long enough to figure out who he can trust and who's out to kill him.
The story is based on a Robert Ludlum novel, and the reporter character was a CIA agent in the original film, which was set against the backdrop of the Cold War.
Producing are Peter Davis via his Davis-Panzer Productions banner, Simon Kinberg via his Genre Films banner, Doug Liman, and Jeffrey Weiner on behalf of Ludlum Entertainment.

Summit Entertainment is wading into the battle of the sexes by acquiring film and TV rights to John Gray's "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" franchise and has set Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun to produce a feature film via their BermanBraun banner.
The producers weren't ready to tip their hand about what direction the film might take, saying it was still in early development, but the moniker suggests the possibility of a high-concept ensemble comedy along the lines of the hit 2009 release "He's Just Not That Into You."
Summit president of production Erik Feig and vp production Meredith Milton will oversee the project with Andrew Mittman, head of feature film development at BermanBraun, who brought in the project.
Gray's original book about gender differences, whose title became a pop-culture catchphrase, was published in 1992 by HarperCollins. Its success triggered a dozen-plus "Mars/Venus" titles, selling more than 50 million books in 45 territories worldwide.

Robert Pattinson, who proved his romantic appeal in Summit's "Twilight," may play another star-crossed lover in a new project called "Memoirs" that Summit is currently assembling.
Pattinson, who is reprising his role as vampire Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" sequel "The New Moon," is in early talks to star in the new project, which Allen Coulter is considering directing.
"Memoirs," based on an orignal screenplay by Will Fetters that will be rewritten by Jenny Lumet, who penned "Rachel Getting Married," tells of two lovers whose newfound relationship is threatened as they struggle to deal with family tragedies.
Coulter -- who directed "Hollywoodland," which dealt with the death of George Reeves, and who has been nominated for six Emmys for his work on HBO's "The Sopranos" and FX's "Damages" -- has been in talks about the project, though no deal has been reached.
