The part led, indirectly, to his casting as the venerable Time Lord.

At the Teen Choice Awards 2012, it was vampires for the win. "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" earned a respectable trio of surfboards, including Ultimate Choice. The "Twilight" franchise now has a whopping 41 Teen Choice Award wins, with another final installment still to come.
Representing the TV side of the fanged undead, "The Vampire Diaries" cast took home another five surfboards, for Choice TV Show and acting awards for Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Michael Trevino and Candice Accola. (Somerhalder also scored a second surfboard for Choice Hottie.)
The heir to the "Twilight" throne is clearly "The Hunger Games," which picked up seven awards : Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson knocked Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart out of the Choice Movie Liplock spot, while Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth all scored acting trophies.

If you're at all interested in AMC's "The Killing" you probably, hopefully read this in-depth (but non- spoilery) recap of the first season we posted on Sunday a few hours before the premiere.
In you want the Cliff Notes version, it's here: could all be forgiven? In short, Season 1 started out strong, but after three episodes dropped off a cliff in quality. Starring Joel Kinnaman (the next "RoboCop") and Mireille Enos ("World War Z" opposite Brad Pitt next year) as two Seattle detectives on the hunt for the killer of a teenage girl, this crime drama follows the effects the murder has on the family, the city, its election and the aforementioned homicide dicks investigating the case went from absorbing and addictive to banal and chasing its tail in almost 60 seconds flat.
Fast forward to season two's premiere last night (and if you didn't see the first season, we urge...

Maid In Manhattan
We’ve been following the coming out drama of Alejandro on Telemundo soap Dangerous Relationships for the past few weeks, but in the meantime another soap on the Spanish language network has introduced a gay storyline. It’s very different than the story being told on Dr. On Maid In Manhattan, Tito, who is a lawyer, recently came out to his boss Cristobal. His sexuality is an issue in that he’s shy and not very experienced when it comes to men.
Only in Oakdale do you not have sex with the hot boyfriend you’re in love with…
Perhaps that is why he so easily fell for the charms of Bruno, who is actually straight, but was hired by his current girlfriend (and the show’s bad girl) Sara to seduce Tito. To be honest, I’m really unclear as to why Sara wants to do this,...

I’m glad Amira has finally gotten the message, given up on Syed and left town. Given that Syed cheated on her for over a year with Christian, ended their marriage to be with Christian and wanted nothing more than to be with Christian after Christian dumped him late last year, it’s pretty clear that he’s just not that into her. I just hope she doesn’t give him a hard time about finally getting a divorce and lets him see his daughter regularly without a hassle. Her character has worn out her welcome, and it’s time to move on. I will miss scenes of Christian and Amira being bitchy to each other though. That was always fun to watch.
As for Zainab finally confessing that she purposefully sent Yusef to his death, which led to Tamwar being seriously burned, it was a moment long in coming.

Will Iolo ever have a storyline?
I really don’t have a clip to present about this show as this is more of a commentary regarding why I haven’t had any coverage on this Welsh drama in months. I get a lot of requests and questions about it so I thought I’d address the issue. Regular readers know that I was a big fan of this soap. Iolo, their gay character has always been written well and the actor, Dyfan Rees, is terrific in the role. But Iolo hasn’t had a storyline since his relationship with Alun last year.
Yes, he appears regularly, but only in support of other storylines such as when his brother Macs was raped (a great storyline that the show inexplicably dropped with no resolution). I wouldn’t say he’s a ‘barely there’ gay,...

I know a lot of people were upset that Ben slept with Lola given that Ben knows he’s gay. We have had too many tv gay teens who lose their virginity to girls, but I can sort of relate to the situation Ben was in, and I get why he would do it.
He might think he’s gay or believe he’s gay, but sleeping with a girl would remove any doubts, which is exactly how it played out. However, I’m not sure why Lola would sleep with Ben. It’s not like she particularly liked him or was even attracted to him. She just seemed all too casual about sleeping with Ben to me. But perhaps that’s an attitude that many teens have about intimacy in general, not worried about the very real ramifications of casual sex. And I suspect...

Transformers: Dark of the Moon has crashed its way into theaters and, for all intents and purposes, it’s more of the same from director Michael Bay. Loud noises, scantily-clad babes, explosive violence, and all-around excess, each a classic staple in cinematic “Bayhem” and, admittedly, the reasons why his fans show up in droves.
But Michael Bay isn’t always this consistent. In the last four years of transforming robots, he has turned backpedaling into something of an art form — or flip-flopping, to borrow a political term for “a sudden change in policy.” For example, Bay defended Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, widely considered the worst of an already specious trilogy, right up until he admitted “we made some mistakes” and called the mystical premise “crap.”
Bay is entitled to change his tune, of course. He’s a grown man (46) with a lot on his mind (including that ’80s haircut). For now,...

Last week was the final of the network television season, and there weren't enough episodes to justify a full Power Rankings. "Doctor Who" recaps will be back next week, after BBC America screwed over its American viewers by interrupting its run for Memorial Day, putting us a week behind the Brits (and Torrent users). The only other show of note not included below was "Game of Thrones." You can read Tk's recap here.
The Killing: I don't begrudge the writers of "The Killing" the Bennet Ahmed storyline. It's important to the overall series; it creates tension on the political campaign and it put Mr. Larsen in the clink for nearly murdering the teacher. What I begrudge is that it took so long to resolve. Ahmed was introduced as a potential suspect early on -- the seed was planted as early as the pilot episode. It's taken 10 episodes to fully...

Yes, it was the year of talkative gay teens and the cat-fighting stars of The A-List: New York. It might not seem like it, but 2010 was the year gay TV grew up. Well, at least part way.

More gay characters than ever graced our screens, and with the rising number of networks making reality shows, sitcoms, and dramas, there was something for everybody from daytime to primetime. In fact, it was so good that the gayest shows on broadcast dominated ratings, and cable series upped their game.
Sure, too many of the new shows with gay characters didn’t survive very long – Mercy, Trauma, and The Whole Truth. But most new shows don’t make it, and at least these characters were something different.

Did you camp out overnight at the convention center? If not, then it's possible you didn't make it into the final "Smallville" Comic-Con panel on Sunday, July 25.
Not to worry though. We've managed to talk our way in (Daily Planet-style) and get seated for what's going to be a huge fan farewell since this is the 10th and final season of the show.
Clark Kent himself, Tom Welling, will be present, along with Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman and Justin Hartley (and EPs Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson). What, where's Allison Mack?
Join us. It's about to start ...

10:03 a.m. - Hmm, wonder how many surprise guests we'll have. I wonder how many I'll recognize. This show has had so many people come and go.
