On June 5, to mark the 40th anniversary of the first CDC report related to HIV/AIDS, public officials, activists and celebrities will converge on San Vicente Boulevard next to West Hollywood Park for the groundbreaking for Stories: The AIDS Monument, a 7,000-square-foot art installation honoring those who have died of AIDS or are living with HIV. The monument is set to open in late 2022; an audio component, “Hear Our Stories,” accessed through the installation’s website, will include readings from The AIDS Memorial, an Instagram account about people who died of AIDS. Showtime series Homeland swept the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards netting popular awards for Damien Lewis (Best Actor), Claire Danes (Best Actress), and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Best Drama Series.

The winners of the 6th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards have been announced at a gala ceremony held in Dublin's Burlington Hotel tonight, 14th of February 2009. Hunger was named Best Film, also picking up IFTAs for Actor in a Lead Role Film Michael Fassbender, Actor in a Supporting Role Film Liam Cunningham, Original Score David Holmes, Production Design Tom McCullagh and Sound Ronan Hill and Mervyn Moore. 'Hunger' actor Michael Fassbender was also presented with the Irish Film Board Rising Star Award. 'The Tudors' won Best Drama Series / Soap, in addition to Director Film Ciaran Donnelly, Actor in a Supporting Role Television Peter O'Toole, Actress in a Supporting Role Television Maria Doyle Kennedy, Costume Design Joan Bergin and Makeup and Hair Sharon Doyle and Dee Corcoran. The Irish Film and Television Awards has unveiled nominees in 32 categories for its 2006 awards ceremonies taking place Feb. 9 in Dublin.
Neil Jordan's "Breakfast on Pluto" leads the pack with a total of 10 nominations followed closely by Brian Kirk's "Middletown" with nine. Ken Loach's "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" and John Boorman's "The Tiger's Tail" garnered seven nominations each.
"Breakfast on Pluto", "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" and "Middletown" are best film contenders alongside Niall Heery's unreleased feature "Small Engine Repair" and David Gleeson's "The Front Line".
The five features in the running for best international film are "Babel", "The Departed," Little Miss Sunshine," "United 93" and "Casino Royale".
Cillian Murphy received dual nominations in the lead actor (film) category for his performances in "Breakfast on Pluto" and "The Wind That Shakes the Barley." Other nominees are Colin Farrell ("Miami Vice"), Pierce Brosnan ("The Matador") and Brendan Gleeson ("Studs").
Nominated actresses for lead roles in film are Eva Birthistle ("Middletown"), Gemma Doorly ("A Song for Rebecca"), Pauline McLynn ("Gypo") and Ruth Negga ("Isolation").
