Alan Moore is a name synonymous with comic books. Whether you have comic book ink running in your veins, or have never picked up a comic book aside from catching the latest Marvel or DC film, you have probably heard of Alan Moore. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Watchmen, From Hell, V for Vendetta, and Batman: The Killing Joke all have film adaptations based on his prolific works. However, let me caution you not to judge Moore by the films based on his works. Moore has a long-standing... hatred for the film industry because of these adaptations. However, this article is not about Moore, but about one of his lesser-known works, Miracleman.
Thanks to a large sale on Marvel digital comics and books from awhile back I was able to pick up Miracleman Vol. 1-3, and Miracleman: The Golden Age. Created by Mick Anglo in the 1950s, Miracleman, or Marvelman as he was originally known,...

Watch Digital Spy's interview with Sheridan Smith about Cilla
ITV's Cilla Black biopic, which starred Sheridan Smith in the title role, launched with bumper ratings last night. Cilla attracted the channel's biggest drama audience launch since a little old show called Broadchurch and it has also won rave reviews.
Smith has been singled out in particular for her incredible performance as the Liverpudlian popstar in the swinging '60s and the only criticism that some viewers seemed to have was that she was too good a singer when she performed as Cilla. High praise indeed. Here is a roundup of the critics and Twitter verdicts:
The Critics:
The Telegraph
"Smith sang her heart out, catching perfectly the bluesy belter within the girl next door, but rather than rushing her to fame, the action unfolded slowly enough to show her falling at the first hurdle as she became crippled with nerves singing for Brian Epstein.

Miracleman #1
Written by Alan Moore (a.k.a. The Original Writer)
Drawn by Garry Leach
Colored by Steve Oliff
Lettered by Chris Eliopoulos
Additional stories by: Mick Anglo & Don Lawrence
You know all of those 1980s comics that “changed the way we looked at superhero comic books forever:? Before any of them, there was Miracleman by Alan Moore and Garry Leach. Using a Captain Marvel wannabe (the old Fawcett Captain Marvel, not the Marvel Captain Marvel- it’s all very confusing) from the 1950s, Moore and Leach’s 1982 revival of Miracleman (actually called Marvelman but there are whole histories written about that) began the oh-so popular trend of making our superheroes “more realistic.” Moore, a young writer at that time, brought the superhero into the real world of nuclear terrorists and troubled marriages. In Miracleman #1, a reporter named Mike Moran dreams of outer space and colorfully clad men and boys flying out among the stars.

Miracleman #1 cover by Joe Quesada
I won’t lie to you… I never thought this day was coming.
I never thought Marvel Comics would be able to untangle the legal Gordian knot that was the history of the character originally known as Marvelman when they announced they’d secured the rights from creator Mick Anglo nearly five years ago. With all the people involved, all the hands through which the rights had passed, actually and allegedly, it seemed insurmountable. But Marvel took its time, with the patience of a father untangling the box of Christmas lights, and now here we are, a couple weeks after Christmas, but given a wonderful and shiny present.

Channel 4's documentary Secrets of the Living Dolls created a huge stir last night and managed to draw an impressive 2.4 million viewers for its exploration of the secretive world of 'female masking'.
With quotes as eye-opening and unforgettable as the dolls themselves ("Would you like the installed rectum?", "I added the hair to make the vagina a little bit more realistic, I used the clippings from my hair"), the doc inevitably generated a huge amount of interest on Twitter.
The documentary followed the stories of a handful of men, who mask either as a hobby or in some cases as a more serious creation of an alter ego, investing both time and money.
"They're not freaky people, they're just like you and me," was the line that the film attempted to put across to viewers. Whether Channel 4 managed to achieve that goal is doubtful as most viewers on...

Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore's British superhero is making a comeback! Here's everything you need to know about Miracleman...
At the weekend's New York Comic-Con, Marvel pulled a huge and unexpected announcement out of their hats, with the news that starting in January 2014, they're going to be bringing back into print – and publishing the previously unseen conclusion of – Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman's 1980s masterpiece Miracleman (aka Marvelman).
The news wasn't entirely out of the blue – ever since Marvel announced in 2009 that they had obtained the rights to publish the character, there's been hope among fans that the tangled mess of rights might be sorted out and the series would return – but the timing was certainly a surprise. Marvel have made a number of other major announcements at Nycc – many of them teased in advance – but things have been so quiet on...

Washington, Jan 11: Health officials have cleared the hospital where Beyonce's baby was born, of any wrongdoing, after media reports said that the establishment had gone overboard with security and caused inconvenience to other parents.
Beyonce had delivered her child, Blue Ivy Carter, on January 7 at New York's Lennox Hill hospital and some parents had alleged that, due to the event, they were unable to see their own children in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as it was on the same floor as the singer's 'suite'.
"Staff spoke with the hospital [and] determined there were no violations," ABC News quoted Michael Moran, a representative for the New York State Health Department, as saying in an email.
He added that.

Oh, to catch Bud Greenspan's eye and then turn up in one of his Olympic documentaries. For many athletes, from the famous to the obscure, the honor ranked just behind winning a medal.
The filmmaker, whose riveting tales soared as triumphantly as the men and women he chronicled for more than six decades, died Saturday at his home in New York City of complications from Parkinson's disease, companion Nancy Beffa said. He was 84.
"Bud was a storyteller first and foremost. He never lost his sense of wonder and he never wavered in the stories he wanted to tell, nor how he told them," she said through a family friend. "No schmalzy music, no fog machines, none of that. He wanted to show why athletes endured what they did and how they accomplished what so few people ever do."

Bristol Palin has had enough of people crediting the tea party with her "Dancing With the Stars" endurance. And so have many Zap2it readers.
But not all of them. A lively debate erupted in the comments of a recent Palin post, and, love her or hate her, Bristol clearly has "Dwts" fans feeling quite passionate.
Here's what some of them are saying:
Team Bristol
Craig: "She has my vote. But I do like the tea party. Don't bite the hand that feeds you."
Jewell: "She is out there doing her best and getting better each week. Who cares who her mother is? I don't."
Sharon Hoffman: "I vote for Bristol because she came to 'Dwts' to do something that is out of her character and I think she has done a remarkable job."
Anonymous: "Bristol is a breath of fresh air. She has dressed like a lady throughout...

On Saturday I was lucky enough to attend a very special charity evening in aid of the Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation. It took place, as you might have guessed at the legendary Pinewood Studios just outside London near Windsor. The event was in aid of the Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation, a charity that helps people with disabilities to increase independence and improve life skills.
The event was named the Pinewood Legends evening for a reason. Invited along as guests of the Foundation were:
Roy Button OBE (Senior Vice President & MD of Warner Bros.) Paul Weston (Stunts, Daylight, Superman I, II, III) Terence Clegg (Producer, Out of Africa, A Clock Work Orange) Mike Moran (Movie music score composer) Joss Williams (Special Effects Supervisor on Green Zone, Hell Boy 2, Rambo, The Bourne Ultimatum) Anthony Waye (Producer, Casino Royale) Saeed Jaffrey (Actor, Gandhi) Paul Hitchcock (Producers, Mission Impossible, Firefox)
