Lawrence Morton(1904-1987)

Lawrence Morton was born Lawrence Goldberg in Duluth, Minnesota in 1904
and died in Santa Monica in 1987. He was a mainstay of Southern
California's musical life, being director of the Monday evening
concerts and the Ojai Music Festival. He was among the first to write
seriously about film music (see his forward to Clifford Mccarty's "Film
Composers in America - a checklist of their work" : Oxford Press,
Hollywood, 1953).
As a champion of the work of living composers he made Los Angeles a world center for the performance of new music during the 1950s, 60s, & 70s.
