- Wrote all the songs and played all the instruments on his eponymously titled 1996 solo album. He also produced it, did the cover art, and directed the video for "Egoverride", the first single off that album.
- Released two solo albums after Husker Du's break-up in 1988, then formed the band Sugar in 1991. Has been a full-time solo artist since Sugar's demise in 1995.
- Along with drummer Grant Hart and bassist Greg Norton, was a member of the legendary punk/pop group Husker Du in the 1980s. Their albums 'Zen Arcade', 'New Day Rising', 'Flip Your Wig', and 'Candy Apple Grey' are considered among the finest works from the 1980s.
- A longtime pro-wrestling fan, he worked as a writer for the now defunct World Championship Wrestling from 1999 until 2000.
- Will release three new studio albums in 2002, all on his own Granary Music label. The first, 'Modulate', will mix electronica with his usual melodic rock sound. The second, 'Long Playing Grooves', will be an all-electronic set released under the name "LoudBomb." The third album will be titled 'Body of Song', and will be acoustic.
