Taking to her Instagram, she shared a picture of her look from her film ‘Chhailla Babu’ and penned a long note in the caption. She wrote: “‘Nahiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!’, ‘Chhailla Babu’ was a suspense thriller that rocked the box office in 1977. It was produced by the lovely and easy going Shomu Mukherjee, directed by Joy Mukherjee and starred Rajesh Khanna. Romance, action, music, drama – it had everything in spades. Including a long drawn out “nahiiiiiiiin” by yours truly, which I think we can agree is pretty much the hallmark of Bollywood masala.”

From a prominent family of actors, he initially considered a career in science before following his father and elder brother into the film industry, but faced a tough time with his first 18 films tanking. It was then he reinvented himself to portray a new brand of hero, inspired by both James Dean and Elvis Presley.
In the process, Shammi Kapoor not only laid the way for a host of dancing male leads, from Joy Mukherjee and Jeetendra in his own heyday, and then, down the decades, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Govinda, Shah Rukh Khan, and his own great nephew Ranbir Kapoor, but also transformed the very paradigm of the Hindi film hero, and in a way, Hindi films.

By numbers, her work in the Hindi film industry seems quite scanty — at 33 films in around a decade and a half. But the statistics fail to reveal that, save around five, all were box-office hits, and some of them broke new ground, making her one of the most popular and successful actresses of all times — and a fashion icon too.
Though she struck gold right from her debut as female lead, and went on to become an “in demand” actress for everything, from frothy romances to tear-jerkers, Sadhana is most remembered for her trademark hairstyle — the famous “Sadhana cut” of fringes or short bangs (itself inspired by the elfin and charming Audrey Hepburn) — and pioneering form-fitting kurtas and churidar pyjamas.
But in her comparatively limited outings, Sadhana, who was born on this day in 1941, showcased her acting prowess. She could essay roles of a rich heiress to a village belle...

Mumbai, May 7: Being the grandson of Indian cinema pioneer Sashadar Mukherjee and the son of actor Deb Mukherjee was not like being a Kapoor, says director Ayan Mukerji who doesn't have any "glamorous" childhood memories and instead grew up "longing" to have access to the movers and shakers in the industry.
"I don't have glamorous memories of being a film industry child. While I come from a family deeply rooted in the film industry and my grandfather was a very big figure, in my father's generation, with the exception of my uncle Joy Mukherjee (of 'Shagird' fame), they were not that successful. It wasn't like being Rishi Kapoor's.

Monojoy Mukherjee, the son of (late) Joy Mukherjee, recently chanced upon an old bill from Film Centre, which in turn led to him discovering his illustrious father's unreleased film titled Love In Bombay. Even though the film was ready in 1971, it somehow couldn't see the light of the day. Besides Joy, the film also stars Waheeda Rehman in a modern day avatar, Rehman as the villain, Kishore Kumar and Ashok Kumar in prominent roles. Talking about Joy's role, his actor's wife said that he plays a Crocodile Dundee kind of character in the film! Another Usp of this film happens to be a chartbuster song 'Maaza Naav Ganpat Rao', which has been sung and enacted by the (late) Kishore Kumar and composed by Shankar-Jaikishen. Talking about the film's restoration, Monojoy said that they have gone for 2K restoration in high definition corrected each frame over six months, working 10 hours a day.

Yesteryear's Jubilee girl Asha Parekh has grown up. She is all set to turn 70 on October 2. The actress is planning a grand birthday bash at the Sun 'n' Sand where all her friends, well-wishers and colleagues from the film fraternity would gather to celebrate.
But there's a problem. Asha Parekh's birthday happens to coincide with Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. And as we all know the Mahatma was anti-alcohol. In deference to the Mahatma allegiance to teetotalism, the powers-that-be have declared a non-alcohol day on October 2.
Ashaji would have none of that alcoholic abstinence on her big day. She has therefore shifted her birthday bash by a day.
Says the feisty forever-fun loving actress, "I've been planning my 70th birthday party for a while now. I don't host parties. The last time I had a bash was for my 60th birthday ten years ago. I want my friends and me...

Everyone loves a Cinderella story and one that has a ghastly family, a spunky heroine, and one Prince Charming who can be a bit of a dope some of the time! The film, which introduced the lovely Sadhana to the screen, is one of the most fun and charming romances of the 60s. Love in Simla was one of the biggest hits of 1960 and deservedly so, the sparkling repartee and gorgeous cinematography makes it a gem to enjoy even now.
Unlike most Cinderellas who are the docile type, Sadhana plays the plucky and feisty heroine Sonia. She’s the unlucky orphan living with her genial uncle (Kishore Sahu), his tart-tongued wife (Shobhana Samarth), and their beautiful but vain daughter Sheela (Azra). They live in luxury in their Simla mansion, while relying on Sonia as their servant and as a burden. Simla was once the summer playground during the colonial period,...

"When something is said to be dead or dying, we are bound to hear more about it than ever," writes Nico Baumbach in a piece for Film Comment, "All That Heaven Allows: What Is, Or Was, Cinephilia? (Part One)." Part Two will appear on Wednesday. "Two relatively distinct trajectories have emerged: one that takes 20th-century cinephilia to be a historical phenomenon, a 'specific kind of love' that emerged in postwar France and spread throughout Europe and the Americas in the Fifties and Sixties; and a second that asserts the ongoing validity of cinephilia and seeks to demonstrate the health of cinephile culture in the 21st century. The occasion for these reflections, Project: New Cinephilia — a website hosted by Mubi, curated by Damon Smith and Kate Taylor, and conceived in conjunction with a day-long symposium at the 2011 Edinburgh International Film Festival — falls into the second category."
