- An opera singer by inclination and skill, Ms. Patricia Neway won the Tony award for her performance as the Mother Superior in the original Broadway production of "The Sound of Music".
- She was awarded the 1960 Antoinette Perry (Tony) Award for Best Actress in a Feature Role in a Musical for her performance as Mother Abbess in the musical, "The Sound of Music," on Broadway in New York City.
