During Discovery’s upfront presentation this evening in New York, cable network TLC announced it is planning an original, two-hour movie about John F. Kennedy Jr.’s long-secret 1996 wedding.
Kennedy married Carolyn Bessette on September 21, 1996, at Brack Chapel on Cumberland Island, Ga. — a location chosen for its coastal isolation. The couple had been a paparazzi staple since meeting years before, and Kennedy had been born in the brightest spotlight imaginable as the son of the Camelot White House. The couple died in a plane crash off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in July 1999.
Speaking during the upfront at Alice Tully Hall, Discovery’s Chief Lifestyle Brands Officer Kathleen Finch included a very brief mention of the project during her portion of the program, saying the acquisition of footage from the event made the film possible.
A few seconds of sizzle-reel footage played and a low murmur rippled through the crowd.
