Unleashed on theaters in 1988, director Tom Holland's "Child's Play" introduced America to Chucky, a My Buddy-like doll inhabited by the soul of a foul-mouthed serial killer. Equal parts absurd and frightening, that first movie spawned six sequels, a remake, and a TV series. Of all the iconic '80s horror villains, he's the only one still written by his original creator, Don Mancini. As such, the TV series has brought back many actors and characters from throughout the franchise's history, in an increasingly complicated -- and refreshingly LGBTQ-positive -- narrative of epic proportions. A narrative that involves Devon Sawa playing multiple roles, for some reason.
Fans of the show know where some of the original film's cast members ended up, but what about the rest? Shot in Chicago, "Child's Play" made use of several local stage talents, as well as a few veteran actors and familiar faces. Can you...

Chucky the killer doll has come back a whole lot of times since we first saw him in the 1988 classic Child’s Play. He has starred in several big screen sequels, a couple direct-to-video sequels, and now he’s three seasons deep into a TV series that runs on both Syfy and USA Network (as well as the Peacock streaming service). As he has made his way through the decades, many of his co-stars have also returned to share the screen with him again and again. But among those who haven’t returned is Chris Sarandon, who played Detective Mike Norris in the original film. During an interview conducted by People to mark the thirty-fifth anniversary of the original Child’s Play, Sarandon revealed that he would be willing to come back for another Chucky project… even though he turned down the chance to appear in Child’s Play 2.

Thirty-five years, seven feature films, and three seasons deep into an ongoing television series haven’t diminished Chucky’s bloodlust in the slightest. That’s no easy feat, even in a genre largely driven by surviving impossible odds and obstacles. With each new entry, Chucky somehow manages to grow even more maniacal and devious, adapting to bizarre new twists that a prolonged voodoo curse throws his way. Of course, that voodoo curse started it all 35 years ago today, when Child’s Play stabbed its way into theaters on November 9, 1988.
While Chucky’s journey continues to surprise through new revelations, characters, and sharp narrative turns, it’s anchored by the killer’s unrelenting pursuit of vengeance and his voodoo origins. That voodoo curse also allows for one of the most notable deaths in the series for its almost meta-levels of doll-on-doll violence.

Celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, Child’s Play is one of the precious few mainstream horror franchises to maintain its original continuity, even overcoming a remake and making the leap to television. A lot of credit is due to Don Mancini, who wrote the original script and has continued to shepherd the series ever since, but there would be no franchise if the first installment wasn’t successful. In that regard, master of horror Tom Holland deserves endless recognition for his direction as well as work on the script.
Child’s Play: A Visual Memoir by Tom Holland is, as its title suggests, a look back at the production through the filmmaker’s eyes. The 152-page hardcover book collects close to 150 behind-the-scenes photos — many of which are previously unreleased — accompanied by Holland’s running commentary plus his original treatment for the film. Starting his career in an uncredited role in as a henchman in the Dean Martin/ Matt Helm movie The Wrecking Crew, Chuck Norris really burst onto the scene fighting Bruce Lee in a Roman Coliseum in The Way of the Dragon. Since then, Chuck Norris has had a career filled with action scenes, loud guns, and roundhouse kicks. He was a mainstay of 1980s action films and was even brought in as a sort of savior for the others in The Expendables 2. While he’s mostly retired now, everyone still knows who he is, and Chuck Norris jokes have honored him for years. After a solid deep dive of the man’s movies, here are what we consider the best Chuck Norris movies:
The Octagon (1980)
Starting off a decade of plenty for Mr. Norris, The Octagon is one of those films that feels very much like he owns it.

One thing we’ve learned about the “Chucky” franchise over the years is that Nothing is off the table, with creator Don Mancini frequently dipping back into the past to tie everything and everyone together into a single franchise universe. Characters including Glen, Glenda, Tiffany, Kyle, and Andy Barclay have all made their returns, much to the delight of longtime fans.
“Chucky” Season 3 was just ordered up for USA and Syfy last week, and it’s coming later this year. In a new chat for the USA Network’s official website, Mancini teases that more legacy characters could be coming in the near future. “I can only say stay tuned,” Mancini teases. “But, you know, of course. There are others, there are potentials on deck. Stay tuned.”

Over 30 years ago, horror fans were introduced to cinema’s most infamous, beloved, and fun-sized slasher – Chucky. While he has had quite the success on the silver screen and small screen, we’re going all the way back to where it started. Don Mancini’s original terrifying Child’s Play, directed by Tom Holland (no relation to the friendly neighborhood one), paved the way for the killer Chucky doll to become the formidable horror icon that he is today. Child’s Play 2 (directed by John Lafia with a screenplay by Don Mancini) ups the kill count, wisecracks, and special effects even if the terror takes more of a back seat this time around. But which Chuck is the one that you don’t f**k with? Only one way to find out: Face Off!

Last summer, Chucky returned to theaters in a completely different form for the Child’s Play reboot. Instead of a serial killer possessing a toy, the new version depicted him as a doll with defective artificial intelligence that went on a killing spree. It was warmly received, but only had a limited impact at the box office due to coming out the same weekend as Disney’s Toy Story 4. Fans have wondered whether a sequel is on the way from Orion, then, with no official news occurring since its release.
We Got This Covered has now heard, though, that a follow-up to the reboot is in the works. Our sources – the same ones that previously told us a Scream reboot was in development and that National Treasure 3 is happening at Disney, both of which have since been confirmed – have informed us that Child’s Play 2 is definitely moving forward at the studio.

There’s an internal struggle going on within the remake of Child’s Play. No, this isn’t existential crisis or indie bent to the horror classic, but a war of tone. Yes, in rebooting Chucky, the filmmakers have mixed a traditional fright flick with a very strange, almost comedic, take on the material. It doesn’t really work, but when it’s being weird, it’s actually a fair amount of fun. Had that offbeat tone been stuck to, this would have been a real pleasant surprise, though sadly it becomes less and less of a factor as the movie wears on. It’s ultimately second rate horror, even if it’s not the disaster it was shaping up to be, just going by the marketing. The film is a modern day update of the original 1988 horror outing Child’s Play. Here, instead of a doll being possessed by...

We’re now just five weeks away from the new Child’s Play arriving in cinemas, and the first two trailers for the reboot have teased a very different version of Chucky, with the killer toy now a corrupted smart doll instead of being possessed by a serial killer’s spirit, as in the original. But the end goal is the same: Chucky’s going to make the life of his young owner Andy hell.
We get a better taste for that in this new TV spot, which reveals that Child’s Play officially sports an R-rating. We were pretty confident this was going to be the case, but it’s good to know the remake won’t skimp on the horror. And we definitely get a glimpse of that in this teaser. True, the doll seems innocent enough at first, calling Andy his “new best buddy” upon being unwrapped.

The marketing for the upcoming Child’s Play reboot has demonstrated a deliciously dark, tongue-in-cheek sense of humor with multiple posters giving a Chucky-themed flavor to various holidays like Christmas, Easter and even 4/20. The best joke the movie’s team came up with, though, is actually its release date.
The remake is arriving on June 21st, the same day as Toy Story 4, a very different take on the concept of toys coming to life. This summer’s Child’s Play remake will shake-up the character of Chucky in some major ways as he’s no longer a serial killer’s spirit inhabiting a toy doll but an artificial intelligence gone bad. This is just the start of the differences between the new movie and the original franchise though, according to producer Seth Grahame-Smith. In particular, fans can expect lots of R-rated intense gore, as well as a more human story in place of the black humor of the past few films.
Grahame-Smith spoke to CinemaBlend recently and lined up the ways in which the remake is its own beast, teasing that the killer doll is “driven by something different” than the old version.

The Child’s Play marketing team have definitely had some fun serving up seasonal posters for this June’s horror reboot over the past few months. Chucky starred in some chilling Christmas cards last December, and just yesterday he celebrated 4/20! Now, continuing on with the tradition, the killer doll has a grisly encounter with the Easter Bunny on the promo art seen down below.
The creepy image features the tyrannical toy towering over the unseen chocolate-giving rabbit, with a smear of blood and smashed Easter eggs behind him. This style of poster – the obscured Chucky part, not the bunny-killing part – is typical of the promotion for Child’s Play, as we didn’t get a proper look at this new take on the iconic slasher villain for the longest time. In fact, it was only last week’s second trailer that unveiled him in the flesh plastic.

The first trailer for the Child’s Play reboot that arrived back in February turned a lot of folks’ minds about the production, as the teaser promised an effective remake of the original cult favorite horror. Following that, the hype was multiplied tenfold when Mark Hamill was announced to be voicing Chucky in the movie. Now, this second preview gives us a better look at what we can expect when we unwrap the full present this summer.
What marks this remake as a different beast from the first movie is that the killer doll isn’t possessed by the spirit of a serial killer this time around but is instead a super-smart toy – a Buddi doll – imbued with artificial intelligence that goes haywire. A previous promo introduced us to Tim Matheson’s Henry Kaslan, the CEO of the corporation that creates the must-have toy.

Just over two months out from the release of Lars Klevberg’s Child’s Play, we now have our first full body look at the new Chucky, who’ll be voiced by none other than Star Wars legend Mark Hamill.
As you can see, the latest design isn’t a radical departure from the original Brad Dourif version, though the cold, red eyes seem to reflect the more tech-oriented origins of this new take on the killer doll. On the front of his overalls, meanwhile, reads the word “Buddi” – the name of the company that manufactured this pint-sized murderer.

If there was one way to make fans warm up to the upcoming Child’s Play remake, it was to hire Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. June’s reimagining of the classic 90s slasher has received a mixed reaction from those loyal to the original but it’s fair to say that most were bowled over when the news that the Star Wars actor is set to portray the killer doll came out at Wonder Con over the weekend.
It was quickly discovered that Hamill was the perfect choice as he actually voiced Chucky before, in the comedy web series Robot Chicken. A clip of Hamill’s first take on Chucky went viral shortly after the announcement, with fans thinking of it as a sneak preview of what the actor will do with the character in the movie. Some inspired casting has developed over the weekend for the upcoming ‘Child’s Play’ reboot. Mark Hamill has jumped on board to be the voice of Chucky.
The movie follows a mother (Aubrey Plaza) who gives her son (Gabriel Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature. Brian Tyree Henry, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio and Carlease Burke also star in the remake which switches out the supernatural element (a possessed doll) of the original for one of a malfunctioning killer robot doll.
The announcement was made at WonderCon, Hamill later took to Twitter with his own message for his legion of followers.

The upcoming Child’s Play reboot has been the subject of heavy backlash ever since it first announced, with much of the hostility stemming from the fact that franchise creator Don Mancini already had plans to continue in the original continuity of the series with an upcoming TV show.
Mancini himself has already made his objections to the new Child’s Play very clear via social media, and in the wake of the first trailer dropping, actress Jennifer Tilly has taken the opportunity to share her own less-than-ecstatic response. Taking to Twitter, the star posted a photo of herself alongside her murderous alter ego Tiffany Valentine, captioning the image with a blunt dismissal of Lars Klevberg’s reboot:
“New ‘Chucky’ movie? Ummm…no. Tiffany and I are gonna sit this one out. #NotmyChucky”
Based on the comments received by Tilly’s tweet, it looks like a lot of fans are thinking the same thing.

The latest classic horror franchise coming back to the silver screen in a big way is Child’s Play. Just over 20 years since the first movie introduced us to murderous doll Chucky, the stuffed serial killer returns this summer to wreak havoc once again. And this first trailer for the film gives us our best look yet at the up-to-date interpretation of the horror icon.
In contrast to the classic version of the character, Chucky won’t be possessed by the spirit of a killer in the new movie but is instead a “smart doll” with artificial intelligence gone haywire. Apart from that, though, the premise is much the same. Karen Barclay – played by Legion‘s Aubrey Plaza – gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi Doll for his birthday, with the toy turning out to have murderous intentions. Brian Tyree Henry also stars as Mike Norris, the detective who...

Though the first trailer for the upcoming Child’s Play reboot is still a couple of days away from dropping, here at Wgtc we’ve managed to catch the preview a little early, and while the footage doesn’t offer a proper look at the new Chucky, it does gives us a pretty good idea of the mayhem that will unfold from his murderous shenanigans.
The one-minute trailer starts off as a commercial for Kaslan Corp. To the tune of “Best Friend” by Harry Nilsson, the footage offers various images of stylish tech and family life while the voiceover tells us that their company is about “more than entertainment. It’s about being known, understood, loved.”
The cheery mood takes a dark turn, however, once the ad introduces us to our “new best friend,” transitioning to a scene of Andy Barclay, played by Gabriel Bateman, unwrapping the Buddi doll given...

Actor Chris Sarandon has appeared in numerous stage, screen, and Television roles since 1972. Horror fans know him best as the handsome, yet wicked vampire “Jerry Dandrige” in the now classic film Fright Night (1985), as well as playing the lead as detective Mike Norris in the original Child’s Play (1988) film. He is also well known for playing the speaking voice of “Jack Skellington” in Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). Some of his other genre roles include The Sentinel (1977), The Resurrected (1991), The Vampyre Wars (1996), Bordello of Blood (1996), and a small role in the Fright Night remake (2011).

You're probably familiar with the name Sarandon, as long as it follows the name Susan, but we think you should get to know the person whose last name she inherited -- consummate character actor Chris Sarandon.
Actually, we're pretty sure you know him, you probably just don't realize it yet. After all, it was Chris Sarandon who played Jack Skellington, the lead role in The Nightmare Before Christmas and the fruit-obsessed vampire next door, Jerry Dandridge, in the original Fright Night. He was also Chucky's original nemesis, Det. Mike Norris, in Child's Play and the villainous groom-to-be, Prince Humperdink, in The Princess Bride.
He's the ultimate "Oh, that guy!" Sarandon took a break from taking care of his grandson to talk to Moviefone about, well, everything.
A lot of people will recognize your last name because of your first wife. So, we gotta know, when you see her name in...

Gone is the naïve idealism of Jefferson Smith (one doubts in today.s climate that he.d actually make it to Washington and if so it would be doubtful if he would make it out alive) and it is replaced with a thriller cloaked in political theater. You wonder how anyone of worth is elected anymore. Certainly idealism is beaten down by spin. Gov. Mike Norris (George Clooney) is trying to secure the nomination in the democrat primary to lock in his run for president. That isn.t turning out to be easy as he is facing stiff competition for the nomination, led by rival campaign manager Tom Duffy (Paul Giamatti). In celebration of this Friday’s release of Wes Craven’s highly anticipated Scream 4, I’ve decided to scour my extensive horror collection and divulge what I believe to be the 10 Greatest Slasher Films ever made! The slasher subgenre of horror has become one of the most ubiquitous entries into the wider genre, as it exploits audiences’ most basic fears of being hunted by a psychotic murderer.
The slasher came into its own during the 1980s, when a surge of films aimed at the teenage market entered cinemas. Arguably, however, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960) is the seminal example and not only redefined the horror genre entirely, but also saw the birth of the slasher film. The debatable nature of Psycho’s position within modern horror cinema (and the fact that it has been included on some of my previous lists!) means that I haven’t included it in todays offering.

Some horror films have the bad luck of being stuck using a trick that only affects a select group within a society by playing on their specific phobias. Granted, the horror genre as a whole has a knack for that, but there are some concepts that are funny no matter the situation. For example, a man in a mask with a huge sharp knife lunging from the shadows = scary. It plays to the fear of, well, just not wanting to die. That seems normal enough. But then you have an entirely separate niche of the horror world that has something like spiders (Arachnophobia), sharks (Jaws) and dolls (Child’s Play). Now, Pediophobia, the fear of dolls, is somewhat ridiculous. I apologize if you suffer from if legitimately or just in a film setting, but it has a severe limit on its appeal. With that said. Child’s Play hasn’t...

A beloved genre favorite since its release in 1988, Child’S Play has never been released as a widescreen DVD until now, mainly due to rights issues between the two studios, MGM and Universal, that Chucky has called home (that’s why a recent boxed set release contained all the sequels but not the original film). That has now been rectified by this deluxe “20th Birthday” (!) package, which at last gives the movie its proper framing, adds a nice new digital 5.1 mix and crams an abundance of bonus goodies onto a single disc, including no less than three commentaries—one of them by Chucky himself.
Child’S Play added a contemporary edge (at least for the ’80s) to the old haunted-doll motif. The film opens with Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon, from director Tom Holland’s previous Fright Night) pursuing notorious “Lakeshore Strangler” Charles Lee “Chucky” Ray (Brad Dourif) into a toy store and shooting him.
