"How are the boys?" "Rambo is cramping more than Rocky." Fandor has revealed an official US trailer for The Blind Man Who Did Not Want to See Titanic, a powerful Finnish film about a blind man going on in the world. Jaakko and Sirpa have never met face to face but used to talk on the phone every day. When he hears about her declining health, Jaakko sets out to meet Sirpa in a different city with only the help of strangers to rely upon. The film originally premiered at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, and also played at the 2022 SXSW & Sydney Film Festivals, stopping by many other international fests along the way. The award-winning film stars Petri Poikolainen, Marjaana Maijala, Samuli Jaskio, Hannamaija Nikander, Matti Onnismaa, and Rami Rusinen. A week before James Cameron’s 1997 box-office behemoth returns to theaters, we’ll see the release of an acclaimed festival favorite in which his Best Picture winner figures into the central narrative. Winner of the Orizzonti Extra Audience Award at the Venice International Film Festival, Teemu Nikki’s The Blind Man Who Did Not Want to See Titanic follows Jaakko (Petri Poikolainen), a charming Finn who loves movies despite his blindness, and his long-distance phone relationship with Sirpa (Marjaana Maijala). When he hears about her declining health, Jaakko sets out to meet Sirpa in a different city with only the help of strangers to rely upon.
Set for a February 3rd release in select U.S. theatres including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco, followed by a Fandor streaming premiere on March 14th, we’re pleased to exclusively debut the new U.S. trailer. Also a selection at Beijing International Film Festival,...

Dutch Features has acquired international rights to Finnish streaming service Elisa Viihde’s crime series “Evilside,” a six-hour Archipelago thriller set in the Oulu region of northern Finland. Filming took place from Dec. 2021 through Feb. 2022.
“Evilside” is produced by Whatevergroup Oy in collaboration with Handmade Films in Norwegian Woods, Business Finland, Business Oulu and the Finnish Film Foundation.
“What drew us to ‘Evilside’ is that the script had all the characteristics of a good Scandi noir thriller, but with a very diverse mix of characters and so many new elements added,” Dutch Features CEO Pim van Collem told Variety.
She added: “Two women are at the center here: the detective trying to solve the case and the young woman who is accused of the crime. Including a teenage character as one of the leads will feed into a whole new younger audience and we are excited to be hitting the international market with this gem.

Hans(el) und (G)rendel
There is something uniquely American in the unashamed virtues and patriotism wrapped up in traditional Superhero films. It is this un-ironic earnestness that I admire but find impossible to emulate personally. Superman, with his endlessly positivity is too vanilla for me. Probably more importantly I am, deep down too sneering, too cynical to fully embrace or relate to the struggles of the invincible man with the shopping list of powers.
Speaking of heroes… lots of people like to root for John McClane in the original Die Hard as the consummate underdog. Even watching as a kid, I rooted for the actual underdogs of the movie,...

Although it’s not the biggest sub genre, Finnish horror has produced a few good movies. Lake Bodom had some success outside of it’s home country, Dark Floors (the Lordi film) was surprisingly fun) and Rare Exports is a movie I watch and enjoy every Christmas. So if Euthanizer turned out decent, it was in good company. It turns out much more than decent and Euthanizer has a lot to like about it. So lets begin with the performances because there’s not a bad performance from any member of the cast. But the three leads will will get most the praise and justifiably so…

A Diy animal-killer mightn't be the first person you'd ask to champion the welfare of household pets, but Teemu Nikki's eponymous Euthanizer cuts straight to the heart of issues between defenseless animals and the human owners who, at least in this corner of Finland, put regrettably little thought into their well-being. Funny, bitter, and sometimes bleak, the picture draws much of its appeal from a deadpan performance by star Matti Onnismaa. It will be best received in those corners of the fest circuit devoted to boundary-pushing fare, but is not nearly so extreme that it couldn't do well for the...

We know that everyone here in Toronto has been feverishly buying up their tickets for Tiff next week. Before this one falls through the cracks and you kick yourselves for missing it, consider grabbing a seat at one of the screenings of Teemu Nikki's newest film Euthanizer. Screen Anarchy is pleased to premiere the North American trailer for this Finnish thriller. Watch, and perhaps this mix of dark humor, gritty action and neo-nazis getting their comeuppance will convince you to grab the first ticket you can. The world premiere is next Friday, Sept 8th at Scotiabank. The Euthanizer, played by Finnish character actor Matti Onnismaa in his first starring role, runs a black-market operation euthanizing people's ailing — and sometimes just unwanted —...

"What the hell is Rendel?" The first official trailer has arrived online for a Finnish, futuristic superhero film titled Rendel, which is the name of the masked superhero character that it's about. Created by the film's director, Jesse Haaja, Rendel is a "faceless" superhero fighting against the Vala criminal organization in the "cold dystopia" of a fictionalized version of a Finnish city called Mikkeli. This "superhero story" is a bit darker and grittier than what we see out of Hollywood, but still has some of the same tropes of the genre. Starring Finnish actor Kristofer Gummerus as Rendel, along with Matti Onnismaa, Minttu Tamski, Roosa-Maria Makinen, Alina Tomnikov, Bianca Bradey, and Johnny Vivash. This looks it could be cool, but I'm also a bit worried it might also be straight-to-vhs level terrible. Check out the footage below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jesse Haaja's Rendel, direct from...
