Directed by Mary Lambert from a screenplay by Stephen King himself, the 1989 film Pet Sematary is widely considered to be one of the best King adaptations ever made. The 1992 sequel, which was directed by Lambert from a screenplay by Richard Outten, is much less popular… and that’s why we’re looking at Pet Sematary II (watch it Here) in today’s episode of the video series The Black Sheep! To find out why we think Pet Sematary II deserves more love, check out the video embedded above.
Pet Sematary II has the following synopsis:
When his mother Renee dies, young Jeff Matthews moves back to his hometown with his father, Chase. Jeff grows friendly with Drew Gilbert at school, who tells him about the Indian burial grounds that bring people and animals back to life, which led to the deaths of the Creed family who used to live in town.

After conquering the box office in 1989 with Pet Sematary, director Mary Lambert returned to Ludlow, Maine in 1992 to dig up another ghastly tale deep within the Micmac burial grounds. This one would not be penned by Stephen King, but Little Nemo and Lionheart scribe Richard Outten, who strayed far, far away from the path of King’s grisly 1983 novel.
Starring Edward Furlong, Anthony Edwards, and Clancy Brown, Pet Sematary Two received mixed to negative reviews upon its arrival in August 1992. Since then, however, the sequel has amassed a cult following, namely from horror hounds who praise Clancy’s out-of-control turn and Lambert’s stylish touch that carries much of the film.

Jason Momoa is all over the place these days. In addition to preparing for the release of the next "Aquaman" movie and playing the villain in the tenth installment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, he's also set to star in the live-action "Minecraft" adaptation, an action-comedy called "Shots! Shots! Shots!," the fantasy murder mystery "The Executioner," a Hawaiian historical drama "Chief of War," and much more. Since the statuesque beefcake of an actor is someone that many consider the man of their dreams, I don't think too many people will be complaining.
In fact, the former "Game of Thrones" star has also taken a starring role in the World of Dreams. Based on the acclaimed comic strip "Little Nemo In Slumberland" by Winsor McCay, he will appear in the upcoming Netflix movie "Slumberland." Ahead of the film's fall premiere, the streamer has released the first teaser that gives off...

The film: Jeff (Edward Furlong) watches as his actress mother Renee (Darlanne Fluegel) is killed in a tragic accident on set. After the funeral, Jeff and his father Chase (an impressively turtlenecked Anthony Edwards) take up residence in her hometown of Ludlow, Maine to recover. Jeff befriends the stepson of the local Sheriff Gus (Clancy Brown) and learns of the history of the Creed family and their unfortunate demise. When Gus kills his stepson’s dog, Jeff goes with his friend to the Micmac burial ground, unleashing the menace that lurks in the reanimated dead once more.

We dig up the underrated sequel to Stephen King's horror classic and pay our respects to Pet Sematary 2.
What is it about horror movie sequels? They either hit the mark or miss them completely, and it’s never in between. But there are no absolutes. It's all subjective. Take Candyman II: Farewell to the Flesh for example. Some find it superior to the original film, citing that it's more engaging, atmospheric, and bone-chilling. Since I can hardly ever get past the first 20 minutes of it, I can't say that I agree with them. On the other side of the coin, we have Urban Legend: Final Cut. I can't really defend this one, but I can say this: I would watch the hell out of it before I would ever revisit the first again. Why? Personal reasons, I guess. (That it used a film school as its...

Last week saw the release of Alexander Payne’s Oscar-winning The Descendants and Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, and this week brings to our shelves the other big winner at the Academy Awards three months ago, Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist, alongside (as ever) a slew of other brilliant films.
In tandem with the Universal 100th Anniversary Editions that have already started rolling out, Play begin releasing their exclusive Blu-ray Steelbooks of some of the films this week, and if you’re a fan of Universal’s recent and classic catalogue, you’ll definitely want to invest in more than a few of these, priced at a very reasonable £9.99. There’ll be more of these in the weeks and months to come, as well as non-100th Anniversary Steelbook re-releases, so keep your eyes peeled.
My personal picks of the week:

Gotta gotta love Hollywood. They’re not just in love with sequels, they’re in love with making sequels bad. So when they take a just barely inoffensive little kiddie action flick such as Journey to the Center of the Earth and give it another whirl, they’re sure to put the right talent on it. Such as director Brad Peyton. He’s not the guy they got to helm ordinary crap like Cats & Dogs -- he’s the guy they got to helm the followup megacrap, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. And here are the screenwriting team of Brian and Mark Gunn, who didn’t pen the pretty good Bring It On but the direct-to-dvd shitquel Bring It On Again, and their cowriter Richard Outten, who wrote not Pet Sematary but Pet Sematary Two. It’s not fair to suggest that Hollywood doesn’t care or isn’t trying.

The new 3D family adventure Journey 2: The Mysterious Island begins when seventeen-year-old Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist.
Unable to stop him from tracking the signal to its source, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest that will take them first to the South Pacific, and then to a place few people have ever seen. Or lived to tell about. It’s a place of stunning beauty, strange and threatening life forms, volcanoes, mountains of gold and more than one astonishing secret.
Together with Gabato (Luis Guzmán), the only helicopter pilot willing to risk the trip, and Gabato’s beautiful, strong-willed daughter Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone human inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island underwater and bury its treasures forever, in this follow-up...

I Am Number Four
Opens: February 18th 2011
Cast: Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant, Dianna Agron, Kevin Durand, Teresa Palmer
Director: D.J. Caruso
Summary: Nine infant aliens flee their home planet to hide out on Earth. The species that destroyed their planet however has followed them and sets out to hunt them down. As the infants grow into teenagers with special powers, three of them are killed. A fourth has fallen in love and now has something to stand up and fight for.
Analysis: In premise and look, this sounds like a big budget and more action-oriented reboot of late sci-fi teen drama "Roswell". Though based on a young adult novel series, it was another title in this category that was the impetus for this adaptation - Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series. Any novels with a focus on teen romance and an other worldly touch are presently being bought up right and...

Her trip to Abu Dhabi didn't go so well, but Sex and the City's Kristin Davis is on her travels again, joining Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. The sequel to Journey to the Centre of the Earth will cast Davis as mother to Josh Hutcherson's Sean Anderson; the only returning character from before. Dwayne Johnson, as already reported, replaces Brendan Fraser in the hunky-lead-guy role of Davis' boyfriend (back to the family fare after Fast Five and Faster); and Michael Caine is Hutcherson's Action-Grandad, the missing scientist who's the reason for the journey in the first place. We're promised he'll have a bit of a Swarm flashback and fight some killer bees. Sweet. The Mysterious Island is, like its predecessor, at least loosely based on a novel by Jules Verne (although the book is actually a sequel to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea). The cast is coming together for Journey 2: The Sequel You Might Not Be Keen to See. (Ok, the actual subtitle to the Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel is The Mysterious Island.) Josh Hutcherson, returning from the first film, will be joined by Dwayne Johnson, and now Michael Caine will play the grandfather of Hutcherson's character. If you remember the story synopsis from when Johnson's involvement was announced, you'll recall that the script is loosely based on the Jules Verne novel The Mysterious Island and that Johnson and Hutcherson journey to a mystical island in search of the grandfather. So, as THR says, this isn't a cameo, and it'll even see Caine in full-on athletic mode. Or something close to it. He'll be in "several chase sequences," one of which involves giant bees. And those bees will be in 3D, naturally. Brad Peyton directs from a script...

Dwayne Johnson is to star in the follow-up to 2008 fantasy remake Journey to the Center of the Earth.
The first film - helmed by Eric Brevig - saw Professor Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser) and his nephew Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) descend to a prehistoric subterranean world, but neither Brevig nor Fraser are returning for the sequel.
Brevig is busy finishing work on a Yogi Bear movie, while Fraser had scheduling conflicts (he's filming a murder thriller called This Side of the Looking Glass) that prevented him reprising his role.
Instead, former wrestler Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson will step on board to play the boyfriend of Sean's mother, reports HeatVision.
The new film, to be directed by Brad Peyton, is to be called Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and sees the pair go on a voyage to find Sean's missing grandfather.

The main wealth of Eric Brevig's moviemaking experience has been as an FX guy, though he has now segued through second unit directing to overseeing his own movies. His first feature was the Journey to the Centre of the Earth remake-sequel with Brendan Fraser, which was an early example of live action 3D in the current digital wave, and he's now at work on the barmy-sounding Yogi Bear movie. And what's next? Well, there's a possible sequel to Journey with Richard Outten, author of the abandoned Goonies sequel screenplay, supposedly updating his spec script Mysterious Travels to fit the Journey characters and situation; and there's also the rather unexpected prospect of a 3D epic set during the Korean War. Wow - there's a sharp turn after his pick-er-nick in Jellystone Park. There's a little mention of the project in The Korea Times' round-up of 2010 Korean cinema: Next year the...

The story follows Prof. Trevor Anderson and his nephew as they travel to the mysterious island featured in Jules Verne's "Mysterious Island."
The trade also said Eric Brevig, director of the first film, is teaming up with Outten to complete the script. Brevig is not yet attached to direct the sequel.
"Earth," starring Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson and Anita Briem, scored $101.7 million domestically. Although I halfway enjoyed that film, I also admit it failed to blow me away.

New Line is planning a "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D" sequel. The first movie, made for about $60 million, was one of the first wide 3-D releases and grossed $240 million worldwide last year. Despite that, the studio waited to see the DVD numbers, which turned out to be robust, before committing to the second installment. Eric Brevig is back as director and this time will be involved in the development of the script. Stars Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson have not yet signed on for the sequel. One challenge in making a second film was finding a story to tell, since "Journey" author Jules Verne wrote just the one book. One concept considered was setting the story in Atlantis, but with several Atlantis projects under development at other studios and the costs of underwater photography, it was nixed. The sequel's storyline will now come from Richard Outten's...

Variety is reporting a story I think most of us already assumed after last year's release Journey to the Center of the Earth earned $101 million domestically and another $140 million overseas, saying New Line's reteaming with Walden Media and ContraFilm for a sequel. The sequel will be based on Richard Outten's script "Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map of Treasure Island," in which Prof. Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser) and his nephew (Josh Hutcherson) embark on a journey to a mysterious island that was the subject of three classic novels (Jules Verne's "Mysterious Island," Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island" and Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels"). There is no word on a director or if the film will be shot in 3-D as was the 2008 release. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it too will be in 3-D, but I can't venture a guess on whether or...

It's been a long time coming, but "Journey to the Center of the Earth Sequel", a second "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D" film, is indeed being prepared. The sequel will be developed once again by New Line Cinema, which will also co-finance the project alongside Walden Media.
Instead of going to explore Atlantis, like what has been suggested earlier, "Journey Sequel" is based on Richard Outten's script "Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map of Treasure Island". It will follow professor Trevor Anderson and his nephew as they embark on an adventurous journey to a mysterious island, which has become the subject of three classic novels, one in particular is Jules Verne's "Mysterious Island".
Though Variety reported that director Eric Brevig has not yet committed to helm this sequel, The Hollywood Reporter came up with a different story. The trade claimed that Brevig is back as director...

Brendan Fraser had two movies reach the hundred million dollar mark last summer. Yet one – The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor was considered a massive flop – while the other, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth 3D, was something of a sleeper success, showing excellent legs after an opening of $21 million. So guess which one has just had a sequel announced? Unusually for Hollywood, it’s the project that makes sense – yes, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth 2 is on its way. This time, though, the movie won’t be based on a Jules Verne story (Verne, inconsiderately ignoring the possibility of franchises, only wrote one Journey story), and won’t involve a journey to the centre of the earth. Instead, it will be based on an original spec script by Richard Outten, entitled Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map Of Treasure Island. Hopefully, by the time the movie comes out,...

I was a bit lukewarm with "Journey to the Center of the Earth," and the Brendan Fraser-starrer didn't exactly shatter box-office records, so I was surprised to hear that New Line is planning a sequel!
The film is based on a script by Richard Outten called "Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map of Treasure Island." Apparently, Prof. Trevor Anderson (Fraser) and his nephew Sean (Josh Hutcherson) embark on a journey to...treasure island! This island is a one-for-all! It's the subject of three classic novels namely Jules Verne's "Mysterious Island," Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island" and Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels."
The director of the first film, Eric Brewig, is working with Outten on the script, although he hasn't committed yet. Fraser and Hutcherson have not said yes to the sequel either, so stay tuned...

New Line is moving forward with a sequel to its summer hit Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D. Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson are expected to reprise their roles and Eric Brevig will back to direct and this time will be involved in the development of the script. The first movie, made for about $60 million, was one of the first wide 3-D releases and grossed $240 million worldwide last year. It also proved to be a hit on DVD. According to the trades, the sequel's story line came together by chance when a spec script by Richard Outten, a writer whose last credited work was 1993-94 Fox TV series The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., landed at Walden Media. Titled Mysterious Travels, the adventure tale was based on the fantasy that the literary tales Gulliver's Travels, Treasure Island and Jules Verne's Mysterious Island all occurred on the same island.

Given that the first film raked in enough cash, New Line has decided to take another trip below ground and has greenlit a sequel to Journey To The Center Of The Earth. Director Eric Brevig is confirmed as sitting in the big chair again, with the story being fashioned to include at least Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson’s characters from the first movie. After ditching plans to try an Atlantis-set follow-up (too expensive and too wet), New Line latched on to a spec script from Richard Outten. His pitch – Mysterious... .

New Line is mounting a second 3-D "Journey to the Center of the Earth."
The first movie, made for about $60 million, was one of the first wide 3-D releases and grossed $240 million worldwide last year. Despite that, the studio waited to see the DVD numbers, which turned out to be robust, before committing to the sequel.
Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are returning as producers along with Walden Media and Charlotte Huggins. Eric Brevig is also back as director and this time will be involved in the development of the script.
New Line will fully finance the movie, a departure from the first one, which saw Walden share co-financing duties.
One challenge to mounting a second film was finding a story to tell, since "Journey" author Jules Verne wrote just the one book. One concept considered was setting the story in Atlantis, but with several Atlantis projects under...
