So when is an introduction not actually needed? When it comes to launching a solo comic book series it’s actually an important question to answer. Do you need to spend time getting the reader familiar with the character or can you simply launch right into the heart of the story? Considering the vast amount of past Cable series and the fact the character has been prevalent since the 90’s it makes sense to get off the ground running. That is exactly what James Robinson does by bringing us into this time hopping story involving everyone’s favorite X-Men from the future, who was actually born in the present.
Personally Cable is one of my favorite X-Men characters. A big reason why is because he, specifically his action figure, got me into the X-Men. Growing up I was a massive G.

I've always viewed Cable as a kind of time traveling Wolverine. He's gruff and stoic, always has his own thing going on, and is usually involved in something that none of the X-Men have any idea about. Now Cable is getting his own comic series once again that is a part of the new ResurrXion line of comics, and some might say it's about... "time".
Dumb jokes aside, this new series will have Cable going through many different times. Not just coming back to our timeline to fix the one he came from. James Robinson is set to write with Carlos Pacheco to illustrate. About the story, Robinson had a lot to say:
"One of the things about Cable is he's a 'time warrior.' Time travel is part of his make-up in almost every aspect of his history - no pun intended. This series will be Cable on a...

On the surface, the title of Final Crisis feels like a misnomer. How can there even be a “final” crisis? There will always be a DC Universe, there will always be earth-shattering dangers, and there will always be heroes to ensure the end is never really the end. But the strength of Final Crisis lies in that it recognizes this, and uses this fact as the crux of the entire event: the promotional tagline was, after all, “Heroes die. Legends live forever.” The characters and stories of the DC Universe are timeless, never-ending, and very much alive in the way that language can be said to be alive. It’s from this angle...

The line between the comics and movie universes continues to blur as Marvel have announced today a new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series from Mark Waid and a team of revolving artists including Carlos Pacheco, Alan Davis, and Chris Sprouse. It will introduce characters from the TV show to the Marvel Universe, and Agent Coulson is set to have a lead role. "He is the coolest Marvel Comics fan ever. E-v-e-r," Waid said of Clark Gregg, the actor who currently plays the character on TV. "He’s amazing at his job, he’s badass, he’s funny—and he loves the history of the Marvel Universe as much as I do." The format of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won't be too different to the recent Moon Knight series, with a run off one-off stories. Each will seemingly feature an appearance from a well-known Marvel superhero though. "Done-in-one stories are more challenging,...

Captain America is dealing with the fallout from the time he spent in Dimension Z. Steve Rogers is emotionally scarred in his return to Earth given the losses of Ian and of Sharon Carter. Writer Rick Remender includes a flashback from Steve’s early childhood as the writer has done since his first issue of the title. The flashback serves as further evidence to what has inspired Steve to become the hero that he is. Steve’s sick mother tells him to not be affected by his past once he becomes a man. Steve’s mother has served as an important influence for the brave hero he is and Remender has done an excellent job of showing the impact his mother’s advice has had on the man Steve has become.

With Trask Industries "celebrating its 50th anniversary" by launching a super informative website (it also ties into "X-Men: Days of Future Past"—sshhh!), suddently Sentinels are all the rage! People can't stop talking about the giant, purple, mutant-hunting robots—and rightfully so! Need I reiterate that they are giant purple robots? It does not get much cooler than that.
The robotic foes have been a thorn in the X-Men's side since their early days, and the mechanical menaces have popped up in everything from video games to cartoons over the franchise's 50 years of existence. Truthfully, we could easily do more than one Required Reading post about the Sentinels—and we could even throw in a Required Watching or two ("Final Decision" from "X-Men" season one!). But when it comes down to the most essential Sentinel stories, here are the five that made the cut.

San Diego Comic-Con International saw the announcement that the sequel to Zack Snyder's new Man of Steel film will feature both Henry Cavill's Superman and a new version of Batman.
While we wait for more news, Digital Spy takes a look back at some of the best team-ups and face-offs between DC Comics' best-known superheroes.
World's Finest
The classic team-up between the heroes launched as World's Best Comics in 1941, in the midst of the Golden Age of comics. It switched to the more familiar title and ran until the 1980s, with a series of team-ups that frequently included Robin and Jimmy Olsen. The long-running series established that World's Finest is just another way of saying 'Batman and Superman'.

In the final moments of Marvel’s rousing panel at Hall H, Marvel chief Kevin Feige brought out Joss Whedon, who showed a very early teaser of the sequel The Avengers and revealed that the film will be called Age Of Ultron with a May 1, 2015 release date. Marvel Comics aficionados might know that the title and the baddie Ultron are the subject of 10-issue limited series comic book crossover storyline published by Marvel Comics that involves the return of Ultron and his conquest of the earth. Ultron and his Sentinels should prove a worthy antagonist for the Avengers and it looked like all will be back though there was no mention of Vin Diesel, who is rumored to be in line to play The Vision. The comic series was published between March and June 2013 and features a storyline by Brian Michael Bendis. Artist Bryan Hitch provided the art for issues one through five,...

Saga Volume 2, trade paperback, Brian K Vaughan, Fiona Staples, Image Comics
This is the first of two trade paperbacks I splurged on this week, though technically I’ve saved money by choosing to follow Saga in trades rather than monthly books. Saga is the uh, saga of a couple from opposing races in a galactic war who have eloped and made a baby. Word of Marko and Alana’s marriage has gotten out and mightily pissed off the leaders of both sides, who have sent various assassins to deal with what they see as an abominable union. The book is narrated from the future by the couple’s child, Hazel and kicks off with Marko’s parents teleporting themselves into the lives of the refugee family.
Brian K Vaughan is a brilliantly talented writer; Runaways is probably my favourite comic series and Y: The Last Man is similarly superlative stuff.

Zack Snyder's Man of Steel soared into cinemas last week, marking the dawn of an exciting new era for the world's most iconic superhero.
The way is firmly paved for a sequel to the comic book blockbuster, and the internet's already ablaze with chatter over what direction it could take. With these factors in mind, Digital Spy takes a look at five potential storylines for Superman's next outing.
Lex Luthor: Man of Steel
Man of Steel laid the groundwork for the series' new on-screen status quo, so the next logical step is surely to introduce Superman's greatest adversary to the fold, as The Dark Knight did with the Batman's nemesis the Joker.
There are dozens of potential Lex Luthor storylines the filmmakers could draw from when reimagining the character for a modern audience, but Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo's Lex Luthor: Man of Steel miniseries stands out as...

Ultron – an artificial intelligence robot created by Hank Pym who mapped his own brain onto his creation. Ultron fought back against Pym and developed beyond his capabilities, becoming deadlier, more intelligent, until he became one of the Avengers’ greatest threats.
Marvel’s latest Event, Age of Ultron, featured an end of the world scenario where Ultron returned to wreak havoc on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and conquer the world. Issue #1 began in the aftermath of Ultron’s invasion where his army of Ultron drones had killed a number of superheroes and driven the survivors into hiding.
It’s a great setup and the series looked very promising in the first couple of issues. Bendis’ scenario was novel – we didn’t see the main event, we jumped on right after – and the fight back against a super-powerful Ultron looked to be really something. But things dovetailed quickly as Bendis struggled to move the story forward,...

After months of confusing bait ‘n’ switches, time travel anachronisms, and numerous (and it turns out, pointless) superhero deaths, we come to the finale of Marvel’s latest Event with Age of Ultron #10.
Before getting into the issue proper, I’ll say that the way Marvel have hit all of their deadlines on the numerous comics this Event has had in the tight timeframe they gave it, is impressive. Marvel waited until all of the issues had been drawn before they began releasing them and I think all future Events should be done like this – 4 months, knock ‘em out, get it done, no more year-long story arcs or prolonged releases because of missed deadlines. This is the winning formula – publishing-wise that is.
Marvel touts Age of Ultron #10 as so packed with surprises that they published all of the comics in individual black plastic wraparound covers so no-one could casually pick...

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artists: Alex Maleev, Bryan Hitch, Butch Guice, Brandon Peterson (cover), Carlos Pacheco, David Marquez, Joe Quesada
Colorists: Paul Mounts, Richard Isanove
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Because of the events and format of this book, it is extremely hard to write about. The last issue and ending of Age of Ultron #10 will be debated about for years to come by Marvel fans. However, I actually enjoyed this issue which finally had a fight with Ultron, some great characterization of Hank Pym, and events that will affect all the Marvel books across the board. There are some weak points, like Alex Maleev’s art clashing with the other pencilers’ and the Angela reveal being a little underwhelming, but I think that Bendis stuck the landing and wrapped up all the main plot points of Age of Ultron while leaving room for developments in future books.

At the end of the last issue, two Stark Carriers collided in the fight between Stark and his Defenders and Morgana Le Fey’s army of Doombots and dragons. The collision triggers a nuclear explosion of epic proportions, which opens this issue, abruptly ending the battle and destroying New York. Wolverine is one of the few survivors though his leg is totally destroyed except for the adamantium skeleton. He passes out in the rubble and 5 days later awakens with his leg fully healed. And Then the roving patrols of Doombots decide to attack Wolverine! How about when he was passed out and defenceless? But for whatever reason they choose to wait until he’s at full strength to pointlessly attack and are rightfully destroyed for their incompetence.
One other survivor is Stark who’s managed to hold on long enough to ankle-grab Wolverine as he passes by to tell him...

Brian Michael Bendis deftly handles the multiple timelines that he has set up in the previous issues and resolves some plot threads in a logical fashion while setting up a big finale that could go either way for the heroes of the Marvel universe. He uses well-written dialogue and callbacks to earlier events of the series to move the plot forward even though fisticuffs are kept at a minimum in this issue. Carlos Pacheco and Jose Villarubia continue to making interesting contrasts between the Bronze and Modern Age comics through little details in their art. Some fans were a little taken aback when Rick Remender made his "Marvel Now!" Captain America series a sci-fi story of sorts after Ed Brubaker's grounded and gritty run, but it appears as if the writer will be taking Steve Rogers back to basics starting in this September's issue #11. Joining him is artist Carlos Pacheco - John Romita Jr. must be busy with Kick-Ass 3 - and together, they will bring back 'Nuke' and introduce new elements to this corner of the Marvel Universe, including the Weapon Minus Program, Doctor Mind Bubble, the Iron Nail. Read on below for further details... On What Made Carlos Pacheco The Right Choice To Pencil This Arc: "I'm a big fan of Carlos' work going back to his work on books like "Starjammers" and "Avengers Forever." The Age of Ultron is over! In yet another weird twist, the Event basically ended at issue 6 and, with issue 7, an entirely different story has begun despite still calling itself Age of Ultron. That’s what it feels like anyway with this issue. There were a lot of complaints from readers that this Event seemed completely pointless because none of the major characters killed so far are going to remain dead – complaints that it turns out are totally justified with issue 7 which basically shrugs “yeah, those last 6 issues? Didn’t mean anything because they didn’t happen.” Oh, terrific!
They didn’t happen because Wolverine and Sue Richards travelled back in time to kill Hank Pym, the creator of Ultron, which Logan did successfully. Travelling back to the future, there is of course no more Ultron as his creator was assassinated before he could build him, so the Age of Ultron never happened.

So I think that Age of Ultron has basically become a less extreme Age of Apocalypse for the entire Marvel universe. There are lots of familiar faces in this issue, but they’re not who they seem. Luckily, there is a handy guide to the new incarnations of characters that show up in Age of Ultron #7. Brian Bendis throws some legitimate surprises and plot twists in this chapter of Age of Ultron. He has gone from his earlier work on the series which was a bunch of sitting around and debating ethics with a little splash of action at the end to turning the event into a plot and action-driven albeit with a lot of dialogue. In most of Bendis’ better storylines, there is a slow buildup with lots of character bickering and little movements. However, some time around the middle, he picks it up and rewards the reader with a killer payoff, plot twist, or a balls to the wall action sequence. Bendis does all three in this fast paced middle chapter of Marvel’s Age of Ultron event. The heroes have gathered in the untouched Savage Land and Nick Fury has come up with a plan – use Doctor Doom’s time platform to head into the future where Ultron is and take him on. As a small group of heroes go off to do just that, Wolverine has a better idea for the time platform – go back in time and kill Hank Pym before he invents Ultron. Sacrifice one to save a billion. But will it work – or make things worse?
Unlike the last issue’s cover, this issue does deliver on its promise of heroes on Ultron action as the future team of Fury, Cap, Red Hulk, Storm and a few others do battle with wave after wave of Ultron heads (apparently in the future Ultron drones are just mega-powerful heads rather than the full body ones sent into the past/our present).
