The story of MTV is set to be rolled out in a new podcast series hosted by former VJ Dave Holmes.
Audacy Podcasts is launching Who Killed the Video Star? The Story of MTV, an eight-part series that launches today, March 27.
“MTV is still on the air in 2024, and it’s still profitable, but my nieces and nephews know it as a logo on an Urban Outfitters t-shirt. I wanted to know what happened, and where the spirit of MTV exists now,” said Holmes.
The series will explore the cultural history, impact, legacy, and phenomenon of MTV and looks at what it turned into.
Holmes, who previously hosted Waiting for Impact, the wild story of boy band Sudden Impact, is hosting with guests including former VJs such as Julie Brown, Damien Fahey, and Kevin Seal, former MTV News correspondents Gideon Yago, Chris Connelly, and Suchin Pak, former Viacom Music and Entertainment Group president Doug Herzog,...

Season 18 of Sister Wives will be best known as the season where Kody Brown really showed his horns as a villain, Robyn Brown remained victimized, Janelle Brown came into her own, Meri Brown saw the writing on the wall, and Christine Brown created a new life outside of her polygamist family unit. But even with all those changes, season 18 was an absolute snoozefest. Sister Wives fans want the season-ending tell-all to dig deeper than ever before. Here are the questions they want answers to.
‘Sister Wives’ fans want tough questions, not softball shots

In the late 1980s, a group of grumpy music journalism vets and fresh-faced 20-somethings came together for a radical media experiment: the launch of a cable news division programmed for, and largely run by American youth. On May 9, 2023 — 36 years after its inception — Paramount announced that the fruits of their labor, MTV News, had been shuttered for good.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to many of MTV News’ star reporters — Kurt Loder, Tabitha Soren, John Norris, Alison Stewart, Chris Connelly, SuChin Pak and Gideon Yago — and visionary executives Doug Herzog and Ocean MacAdams to reminisce about the glory days of the outfit, where one day you might be hanging backstage with Prince in Paris, the next chasing a pre-White House Bill Clinton through the snowy streets of New Hampshire.
For each of them, it was a bittersweet journey they were more than happy to take.

Thirty-six years after MTV News was created to expand the stable of programming that defined the cable channel MTV, it is no more.
MTV News was shuttered this week as part of larger layoffs at parent company Paramount Global.
What launched as a single show in 1987 (The Week in Rock, led by correspondent Kurt Loder) eventually became a bona fide news outlet for Gen X and older millennials who found that traditional TV programming on the broadcast networks and CNN wasn’t cutting it.
Correspondents like Loder, Tabitha Soren, SuChin Pak, Gideon Yago, Alison Stewart and others covered music, pop culture, politics and other topics with an eye toward the younger generation that was tuned to MTV, rather than the network evening newscasts.
Along the way MTV News created some pop culture moments itself, perhaps none moreso than in 1994, when President Clinton appeared on MTV’s Enough is Enough, a...

When MTV brought back the home-exploring docuseries Cribs, it also welcomed the return of its familiar voice for many past seasons, SuChin Pak. The MTV News alum served as narrator for the popular series where celebrities open up their often wacky (or totally swanky) abodes, refrigerator doors, and bedrooms to show “where the action happens.” The series is a trip down memory lane for Pak, who first joined the network in 2001. She has come a long way since, breaking new ground for representation and learning from each experience throughout her career. These days, viewers can not only hear her on Cribs or past episodes of True Life, but on a podcast, the journalist hosts with comedian, writer, and director Kulap Villysak called Add to Cart from Lemonada Media. Artie Burns had just turned 21 when his healthy, 44-year-old mom collapsed without warning. Burns rushed to be by her side at the hospital, just in time to say goodbye. "Just seeing her like that - it was probably one of the worst images I ever saw," Burns, a cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, tells People. With his father serving a 25-year prison sentence, Burns' two younger brothers Thomas, 16, and Jordan, 13, were suddenly orphaned overnight. Despite having his own 19-month old baby to take care of and being consumed by training for the NFL draft, Burns legally adopted his two younger brothers.

This season’s Catfish: The TV Show, which premiered Tuesday, June 25 at 10 p.m. on MTV, features so many Omg moments that it is best to analyze each episode with equally expressive reactions. And not just text-based or still image reactions — Gif reactions.

The ‘Teen Mom 3′ mom revealed that the most shocking unsolicited piece of advice that she ever got was when someone told her that her decision to breastfeed her daughter Arabella was ‘disgusting.’ Can You believe it?
Katie Yeager has breastfed her daughter Molli on several episodes of Teen Mom 3 — and some viewers just didn’t agree with her decision! Whether they were offended by actually seeing Katie breastfeed on the show or if they just didn’t agree with her choice, critics got really vocal about it on Twitter — and even confronted Katie in person! Luckily, Katie wasn’t phased by the haters.

MTV’s Suchin Pak asked the Teen Mom girls how they felt about getting unsolicited advice from viewers and critics on the Oct. 7 episode of Teen Mom 3: A Closer Look. Katie’s experience definitely takes the cake!

Starting off the episode, Nevax jokes around at the non-descript hotel room’s desk as if they were part of Catfish: The News Program. I would say I would watch that show but without SuChin Pak, I’d probably pass.
Although Robot Max perhaps could make up for the lack of SuChin Pak. (His chrome covering would match his chrome hair!

This Monday, Nev Schulman and Max Joseph joined MTV News correspondent SuChin Pak for a sit-down with half of the couples from the first season of "Catfish: The TV Show," the MTV series which, you'll remember, started off as a Sundance doc about how Schulman's attempt to find love online ended in deception. The show, however, follows other subjects who haven't yet met the people they've been developing relationships with online. And, as MTV reality series typically go, the season was capped off with a reunion special. But another "Teen Mom" reunion this was not. MTV.com teased the show with the headline "The Stage... And Security... Are Set For The 'Catfish' Reunion." You can hear the screens already: "Jerry! Jerry!" Or is that "Max-y! Max-y!" When it came down to it, no chairs or punches was thrown -- in fact, nothing much really happened. The only name-calling came from the past,...

Certain aspects of MTV's "Catfish" are fake, according to Hollywood.com.
The show, based on the movie of the same name, is about online relationships between two strangers who may or may not be lying to each other. The film -- which followed Nev Schulman as he sparked up an online relationship, but then soon discovered that the person he thought he was talking to wasn't being truthful -- also elicited authenticity debates. On the MTV show, Schulman and Max Joseph serve as hosts/stars and travel around the country to unite the online users.
Every episode begins with Schulman reading an email from somebody who wants to meet an online love interest. According to Hollywood.com, the catfishee (person who is sending the email) doesn't initiate contact, it's the person who is the catfisher who reached out to MTV almost always. "You know how they said that [the catfishee] had reached out to them?...

Demi Lovato, come here so we can give you a hug. Forever. In her new documentary Demi Lovato: Stay Strong, the “Skyscraper” singer admits to an ongoing struggle with an eating disorder and self-harming; meanwhile, we’re struggling not to silently weep at our computers. It is not easy. “I cannot tell you that I have not thrown up since treatment,” Lovato told interviewer SuChin Pak during a particularly emotional part of the special, which aired last night. “I can not tell you that I have not cut myself since treatment. I’m not perfect. This is a daily battle that I will face the rest of my life.” Ugh, all these tears cannot be good for our keyboards.
The former Disney star has been nothing if not candid about her physical and mental issues, a journey that began with a trip to rehab in November 2010. “I was exhausted.

Tuning in to the People’s Choice Awards requires an automatic suspension of shouting “Aw hell no!” After all, placing the power in the hands of “the people” — or rather, rewarding the movies and TV shows with the most mouth-foamingly rabid fan bases — can lead to awkward moments like Robert Pattinson walking to the podium to collect the trophy for Best Drama Movie (for the moderately received Water for Elephants) and wondering aloud, “I don’t know why they asked me to accept it.” (Um, because you’re hot, and you’re there, and the Twilight fans didn’t vote to see director Francis Lawrence.

The idea behind "Teen Mom" and "Teen Mom 2" was for them to serve as cautionary tales to teenagers that teen pregnancy and parenthood is far more difficult than most young people can imagine. Parents and teachers and other adults say it all the time, but the message doesn't seem to get through.
On the "Teen Mom 2: After Show" (Tue., 11 p.m. Et on MTV), SuChin Pak sat down with the girls to ask them what they wish they'd known before they got pregnant. The answers were exactly what was expected, because hindsight brings the same wisdom that the adults have been trying to impart for years.
Kailyn Lowry wished she could have known how time-consuming a baby is, and "how hard it is to focus on everything else you have going on in your life besides having a baby." For Jenelle Evans it was missing out on sleep...

It's hard to believe that it's been one year since the devastating earthquake hit Haiti on January 12, 2010, leveling much of the impoverished island nation's capital, Port-au-Prince, and killing more than 250,000.
The world came together in the weeks after the natural disaster, when Americans donated nearly $1.5 billion to help Haiti recover from the 7.0 magnitude quake. Another $5.3 billion was pledged at a donors conference two months after the earthquake. Every penny was needed, as nearly 2 million people were left homeless, many of them forced into ramshackle tent cities, and nearly 400,000 children were made orphans by the latest natural disaster to strike the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere.
