Antonia Campbell-Hughes thriller gets sales deal
Exclusive: For the Cannes virtual market, Great Point has boarded world sales on thriller Black Medicine starring Antonia Campbell-Hughes (3096 Days), Orla Brady (American Horror Story), Amybeth McNulty (Anne With An E) and John Connors (Cardboard Gangsters). Signature Entertainment recently acquired distribution rights for the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, with the UK release slated for 12 July. The first feature for Colum Eastwood, who wrote and directed, the movie follows a disgraced medic who carries out clandestine surgeries for the criminal underworld. When she unwittingly helps a young woman escape from a vicious gang, she must choose between breaking her medical oath or crossing her ruthless employers. Pic was financed by Northern Ireland Screen and Yellowmoon, Janine Cobain produced for 23Ten; executive producers are Martin Brennan and Tim Palmer.

Oscar-nominated director Jim Sheridan (Dream House, My Left Foot) is to set write an updated version of his 1992 film 'Into The West'. Sheridan received Irish Film Board funding to the tune of 50,000 for the project in late November in order to develop it. International trades are buzzing that the film's original producer Tim Palmer is to return and that Sheridan will direct the film this time around. The updated version of the film will be set in the Us but with similar themes to the 1992 version.

In 1992 Jim Sheridan wrote and directed the movie “Into the West”, the story of two Dublin boys trying to escape poverty in the city and their adventures with a mystical horse called Tir na nOg. Now he is planning a remake set in the United States. According to Screen Daily Sheridan plans to write and direct the movie and Tim Palmer who produced the original is also on board. Currently there have been no announcements about the cast. The original movie started Gabriel Byrne, Brendan Gleeson and Ellen Barkin. Mike Newell helmed the original feature about two young boys who escape the poverty of their Dublin council estate on adventure ‘into the west’ to find a mystical horse recently stolen from them. Gabriel Byrne, Ellen Barkin, Brendan Gleeson and David Kelly starred.
Tim Palmer, who produced the original, is onboard this version which will shift the action to a United States setting.

Back in 1992, before venturing into a different kind of fantasy with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, director Mike Newell went Into the West for the story of two young boys who escape the poverty of their Dublin council estate on adventure ‘into the west’ to find a mystical horse recently stolen from them. Now it sounds like a remake is in order as Screen Daily reports director Jim Sheridan, who most recently struck out with Dream House, has been lined up to write and direct an update of the film with original producer Tim Palmer also involved. The story will be reimagined with the same themes, but in a United States setting. For those cult fans the series has, it should help that Tim Palmer is involved, but American remakes can be worrisome.
