TBS is in the midst of its annual 24-hour marathon of "A Christmas Story," the 1983 movie about a young boy's (Peter Billingsley) quest for a Bb gun that has become as much a part of the season as "It's a Wonderful Life."
But did you know that Jack Nicholson was considered for the role of Ralphie's father? So says TBS, which says Nicholson was offered the role and he was interested. The movie's producers became concerned about what they might have to pay Nicholson, however, and went with Darren McGavin instead.
Here are some other little- to well-known facts about "A Christmas Story."
- Author Jean Shepherd, who narrates the movie and whose book "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" is the basis for the film, also has a cameo. He's the annoyed man in the department store who tells Ralphie and Randy the line to see Santa starts back there.

Usually the best documentaries are great because of the people they follow. Other times it is simply all about the filmmaker choosing to follow a subject at just the right time before a drastic change of events occurs. The documentary, I’m Carolyn Parker: The Good, the Mad and the Beautiful seems like it belongs in the former. Director Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Rachel Getting Married), isn’t a man desperately seeking a topic for his next film, so clearly Parker must have done something right to spark the attention of the Academy Award nominee. The film depicts the inspiring personal journey of ex-civil rights activist Carolyn Parker, as she returns to her community’s flood devastation after hurricane Katrina and struggles to rebuild her New Orleans home. I’ve got a hunch this might be one of the biggest crowd pleasures at Tiff this year. Watch some clips below.

A week after the announcement of the first, and largest, wave of films added to this year’s Toronto International Film Festival slate, the festival is now finally rounding out its list, with some of the most interesting additions yet.
Criterion Collection fans will again see a few of their more beloved filmmakers involved here, as Wim Wenders will be bowing his latest film, Pina, during the festival, as will Werner Herzog (not truly a Criterion Collection approved filmmaker, but we’ll count it). Herzog will be bringing his new documentary, Into The Abyss, which looks at those behind at triple homicide, including one man who is on death row and will be put to death just days after speaking with the filmmaker.
Other additions include Ron Fricke’s Baraka follow up, Samsara, Nick Broomfield’s surely controversial documentary Sarah Palin – You Betcha!, and documentaries from Alex Gibney and Morgan Spurlock.

Photo: Content Media The 2011 Toronto International Film Festival announced 56 more movies added to its festival line-up this year with selections in the Vanguard, Midnight Madness, Documentaries, City to City and Tiff Kids programs. And to be honest, the line-up is filled with titles, most of which are absolutely new to me.
I have seen one of the films under the Vanguard banner, a selection of young and cutting edge features and I've heard of Joachim Trier's Oslo, August 31, Ben Wheatley's Kill List (watch the trailer to the right) was a hit at South by Southwest earlier this year and the documentary selections include familiar names such as Werner Herzog, Morgan Spurlock, Jonathan Demme, Alex Gibney and Wim Wenders, the latter of which is delivering a 3D documentary centered on the dance world of Pina Bausch and her company.

Opening up for the first time about her divorce from Tony Parker, Eva Longoria broke down crying and said the split was ‘heartbreaking,’ but she won’t say anything negative about him. Talk about class!
If someone cheated on us — like Tony Parker reportedly did to Eva Longoria – you can bet we’d want to set the record straight. However, the 36-year-old Desperate Housewives actress is a better person than we are and told Piers Morgan April 7 she’ll never publicly reveal the private details behind the split.
“You know, he’s not a bad person, he just wanted something else. I don’t hate him for it, I really don’t,” she said. “I would never speak publicly about what happened or why we got divorced because I love him and we still talk, we are still in each other’s lives.”

Say what you will about Piers Morgan — that he’s rude, that he’s a camera-hungry reality star, that he’s British — the man certainly doesn’t softball his interview subjects. Especially considering he’s filled the kindly Larry King’s cushy shoes, it’s hard not to be taken aback hearing the Piers Morgan Tonight host ask this of Eva Longoria concerning her quite public divorce: “Do you feel humiliated?” Speaking about her split from NBA player Tony Parker for the first time on Thursday’s show, Longoria responded: “A bit. Yeah. Mostly … because it had to play out so publicly.

Eva Longoria opened up about her divorce from NBA star Tony Parker for the first time Thursday night, breaking into tears when CNN’s Piers Morgan quizzed her about their public split.
“It was heartbreaking,” she said. “I think it was disappointing because I had such an identity in being Mrs. Parker and being a wife, and when that’s taken away from you, you go ‘Who am I?’”
Longoria filed for divorce in November 2010, amidst reports that her ex-husband was caught “sexting” with a former teammate’s wife. Since their split was finalized in January 2011, Longoria has been spotted canoodling with her new boyfriend, Penelope Cruz's 25-year-old brother Eduardo Cruz.
Despite the “humiliating” nature of their split, Longoria refused to talk ill of her former hubby.

"It was heartbreaking. It's the first time I'm talking about it so I'm sorry (for crying)!... It was disappointing because I had such an identity in being Mrs. Parker and being a wife. When that's taken away from you, you go, 'Who am I?'"
But Longoria, who is now rumoured to be dating Penelope Cruz's brother Eduardo, insists she has no regrets about her time with Parker.
She explains, "So many people want me to hate him, want me to destroy him. But I don't, I wish nothing but the best for him. A really good friend of mine said, 'Hold onto the love and not the loss.' There was a reason why we got married, there was a reason why we fell in love, there was a reason why we were together seven years. I just choose to hold onto that."...

A Christmas Story is arguably the most popular holiday movie ever made, and it seems everyone knows of Ralphie's quest to get a Red Ryder Bb gun. The film has managed to creep into our popular culture, as it is chock full of great scenes and funny lines.

Remember that time that you thought a television program in its 8th season would make a great movie? And then you made Sex and the City, and it grossed eleventy billion dollars? Yes, that's right. I'm assuming the entire readership of Fsr amounts to Sarah Jessica Parker. Anyway, Mrs. Parker, the point I'm trying to make is that it seems like a dull idea for Jack Bauer to make his transition to the big screen so late in the game. Of course, I'm also an idiot, because "24" is still boasting 11.2 million viewers even if it's experiencing the third lowest ratings in all of its 8 seasons. Basically, it still packs a punch. But does that mean it will translate to serious box office? I have no idea. You know why? Because we're months and months away from even seeing a trailer, so anyone speculating at this point would be doing just that: speculating. However...
