James Woolley, former keyboardist for the seminal industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, died over the weekend. He was 50. "James passed away," Woolley’s ex-wife Kate Van Buren wrote on Facebook. "James worked hard and played hard with Nin. He brought coolness to playing keyboards, which isn't as easy to do as playing guitar or drums. Those years were truly magical and quite an adventure." Woolley first joined Trent Reznor’s group in 1991, playing on the inaugural Lollapalooza tour. He continued as part of the group through the Broken Ep and the quadruple platinum-selling LP, The Downward Spiral. For his work on Broken, Woolley earned a Grammy for Best Metal Performance. Woolley later earned a second Grammy for Best Metal Performance for his work on “Happiness in Slavery” at Woodstock '94. Former Nin bandmate and Filter frontman Richard Patrick wrote on Instagram, “I miss my buddy. #nin #gonetoosoon” Woolley is survived by his three children.

When news arrived in February that the members of Stone Temple Pilots had fired their mercurial frontman Scott Weiland after years of difficulties, hardly anyone was surprised. What was unexpected, perhaps, was the addition of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington as Stp's new singer, and the subsequent announcement that the newly branded Stone Temple Pilots featuring Chester Bennington will release a five-song Ep, called High Rise, on Oct. 8 via Play Pen Records. Meanwhile, another millennial institution, the industrial rock band Filter, put out its first album in three years, The Sun Comes Out Tonight, on Wind-Up Records. Fronted by Richard Patrick, who

Former MTV VJ Kennedy (real name Lisa Kennedy Montgomery) has released a memoir, titled "The Kennedy Chronicles," wherein she writes about everything at the music video channel from the top artists of the day to random celebrity encounters -- including one with NBA legend Michael Jordan.
In the book, according to TMZ, Kennedy was out to dinner with Jordan and Russell Simmons when Jordan busted out some dice and wanted to "play for something," saying that if he won, Kennedy had to come back to his hotel room with him.
Kennedy writes that she was a virgin at the time and kind of freaked out, so she asked for Knicks tickets instead, which is when Jordan reminded her that he was married and offered her Nets tickets.
"Sure, he'll filet my vag like a sea bass if he won at dice on a men's room floor ... but as soon as...

Filter have made it a point to return to their roots and embrace the heavier aspects of 'Short Bus' for their new album 'The Sun Comes Out Tonight'. When I interviewed frontman Richard Patrick he made it very clear that this was in his own words, "F*** yeah part 2". So if you enjoyed 'Hey Man Nice Shot' then you'll dig Filter's sixth studio effort. Leading track 'We Hate it When You Get What You Want' is my favorite cut on the record and it's a non-stop assault on your eardrums. With chorus lyrics like "Sit yourself down motherf***er" you can rest easy knowing that this album will bring the rock and it will bring it right to you. Filter has always been very good at balancing the melodic and atmospheric sounds amidst their industrial fueled rock so there are some moodier cuts that stand...

[Exclusive Interview] I had the opportunity to speak with Filter mastermind Richard Patrick about his latest record 'The Sun Comes Out Tonight', which is available everywhere now. We reflected on what inspired the new material, returning to a heavier sound, his troubled past and then we ventured into some very heavy territory on his connection with the Us military and how it's changed him. Filter's new album 'The Sun Comes Out Tonight' is the band's sixth studio effort. Recorded in Los Angeles at Blue Room Studios with producer Bob Marlette, the album was written and recorded by leader Richard Patrick and guitarist Jonny Radtke, as well as collaborator Marlette. I recently caught up with singer Richard Patrick to discuss 'The Sun Comes Out Tonight' and talk about the inspiration behind...

David Yow, notoriously nude frontman of Scratch Acid and The Jesus Lizard, has been cast in a forthcoming indie movie, presumably in a role that requires him to wear pants. High And Outside: A Baseball Noir also stars Filter’s Richard Patrick and long-time character actor Geoff Lewis. The film, which is (of course) raising money now on Kickstarter is based on the director’s experiences as the son of a Major League Baseball player who later become a controversial manager. According to a press release, it’s “the story of one man's dream to play professional baseball and ...

On Tuesday (May 24), Stone Temple Pilots will drop their new self-titled album, which represents their comeback after nearly a decade on the rocks and the sixth of their career. The group has survived a lifetime of trouble, from attacks from critics to the substance abuse troubles of problematic frontman Scott Weiland. But they're back on track with a new album and a killer live show, and it's time to reevaluate their entire career.
Stone Temple Pilots got off on the wrong foot back in 1993 when their breakout single "Plush" turned them into instant MTV and modern rock radio staples. Their biggest sin? "Plush" (and Weiland's vocal in particular) sounded a bit like Pearl Jam (of course, so did every other rock band who dropped a single in '93). The idea that Stp sounded exactly like Pearl Jam was so ubiquitous that it even got a joke on "Saturday Night Live" (made by David Spade,...
