Godzilla has come to represent a lot of things to a lot of people. Our lizard king first and foremost expresses mass fears surrounding nuclear fallout. More recently, he’s symbolized the catastrophic, segregating effects of global terrorism. But sometimes, to some people, he’s just a big ol’ lonely boy — his only friends are fragile little dolls, his contemporaries all want to kill him, and pretty much everyone would rather he just go away for good.
Except audiences. Sparked by Gareth Edwards’ 2014 “Godzilla,” Americans have shown up for Toho Co. and Legendary’s Monsterverse movies to the tune of nearly $2 billion in worldwide box office. Even “Godzilla vs. Kong” — which not only came out during the pre-vaccine Covid era, but was also available via HBO Max at the same time — drew almost half-a-billion dollars. Clearly, there’s an appetite for monster battles that’s nearly as big as those monsters.

Firefly Lane girls forever. The final episodes of Netflix’s Firefly Lane, which stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke as long-time besties Tully and Kate, are coming to the streamer on April 27. And while we don’t know for sure how their story ends, a just-released trailer and photos offer some hints about what’s in store for the pair in the last seven episodes.
Tully is in Antarctica in the ‘Firefly Lane’ Season 2 Part 2 trailer
The first half of Firefly Lane’s second season was all about the breakdown of Kate (Chalke) and Tully’s (Heigl) decades-long friendship. The two had a massive blow-up after Tully was involved in a car accident with Kate’s teenage daughter Marah (Yael Yurman). That led to Kate cutting Tully out of her life, seemingly for good.

The Flash‘s final season just got a shot of O.G. energy! The CW has confirmed that Arrow icon Stephen Amell is set to strap on the quiver again as Oliver Queen for what is shaping up to be a momentous Episode 909. This is 100 percent fitting since it was Arrow that introduced us to Grant Gustin‘s instantly beloved Barry Allen back in Season 2’s “The Scientist” episode. Diyah Pera /The CW “As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen,” states showrunner Eric Wallace of recruiting the Heels headliner. “After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash.

Firefly Lane is finally coming back December 2 on Netflix. The second season will be its last, and Sarah Chalke says Season 2 will hit you in the same heartstrings as Season 1. “The show makes you laugh, cry, and then some; like Season 1 — to the power of three,” says Chalke, who, with Katherine Heigl, talked about the final 16-episode run of this beautifully played portrait of besties through three decades. Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) is ambitious Tully Hart, who walked away from her talk show The Girlfriend Hour at the close of Season 1, with Chalke (Scrubs) as Kate Mularkey, her pal since age 14 — until events imploded their bond in the finale. The series, which plays out across three timelines, left viewers with lots of questions. Diyah Pera/Netflix Here, Heigl and Chalke answer three of them ahead of the Firefly Lane Season 2 premiere. The Robinson family rockets into the third and final season of Netflix‘s Lost in Space, which finds them in a difficult spot: apart. The action on this adaptation of the 1960s CBS series picks up a year after the Robots’ attack on the ship Resolute at the end of Season 2. Now, siblings Penny (Mina Sundwall), Judy (Taylor Russell), and Will (Maxwell Jenkins) are trapped on a mysterious planet after escaping the ship. (Credit: Diyah Pera/Netflix) But their worried parents, Maureen and John (Molly Parker and Toby Stephens), “don’t know if their kids are safe and the kids don’t know if their parents survived the attack,” says executive producer Zack Estrin. While the elder Robinsons desperately try to reunite the family, Estrin says lingering questions will be answered on these final episodes: “Where did the Robots come from? And if the Robots are indeed built, who built them?...

The first season of “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” which is currently rolling out on Disney+, will stick to the source material provided by Trenton Lee Stewart’s beloved kids book of the same name, according to series creators Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay. But should the series continue into another season, that might not remain to be the case.
“The subsequent books are all wonderful, and they’re very different, too,” Hay said in an interview with TheWrap. “So if we were lucky enough to continue and get another season, I think it would likely draw from a lot of them in different ways, as opposed to being very, very specific.”
Hay and Manfredi said they hope to draw from all of the sequels (as well as Stewart’s prequel novel) for future episodes, mixing and matching elements rather than doing a straight adaptation.

“The Mysterious Benedict Society,” which debuts on Disney+ this week, is the latest original programming to hit the streaming service. But it’s based on the book series of the same name by Trenton Lee Stewart, which has sold at least 3 million copies in the U.S. That’s a lot of fans who are probably wondering how closely the series will adapt those books.

Deadline reports another attempt at a Supernatural spinoff is in the works at The CW. The project, entitled Wayward Sisters, would star Kim Rhodes reprising her Supernatural character, Sheriff Jody Mills. CW President Mark Pedowitz has wanted another stab at a spinoff, for quite some time. Wayward Sisters will be introduced as a backdoor pilot in the 13th season of Supernatural, starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. It will feature Jody fostering troubled young women, whose families have been killed by monsters and demons. Armed with her experience in law enforcement and monster hunting, she will train them to become a fierce female fighting force. There's no word yet on whether the characters Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton), Alex Jones (Katherine Ramdeen), or Sheriff Donna Hanscum (Brianna Buckmaster) will be involved.

Last night Supernatural took a break from the angels and demons and did a very fun little screwball caper around the Men of Letters headquarters. Things kicked off with the discovery of a ridiculously antiquated computer straight from that Tracy/Hepburn film Desk Set. It had the vacuum tubes and the blinking lights. All it needed was a set of punch cards for an operating system.
Dean calls in their cute lesbian hacker pal Charlie (Felicia Day) to try and get the thing working again. She uses her Surface Rt to troubleshoot. (That loud thud you heard was a product placement.) In the course of repairs, Dean knocks over what looks like either a relic borrowed from Warehouse 13… or the actual Bottle City of Candor. Whatever it is, the busted bottle releases Dorothy and the Wicked Witch who had been trapped within for seventy five years.

The Winchester Brothers have struggled to survive the Supernatural for eight years on their ever popular CW series. It has all lead up to this. Get ready to see Sammy take on Benny at long last.
When a demon took their mother Jared Padalecki’s Sam and Jensen Ackles’s Dean were raised to be soldiers in the war of good versus evil. Along the way they’ve accepted the help of a fallen-angel called Castiel, played by Misha Collins, and, believe it or not, the King of Hell, called Crowley, acted by Mark A. Sheppard. You see, there’s a fine line between good and evil and the Winchesters know how to tow it when need be. Case in point, in the Dec. 5 episode, Benny, a vampire, and good buddy of Dean, will be accused by Sam of slaying another vamp. Of course Dean will take Benny’s side.

This morning we have for you a look into the Supernatural season 8 future with these promo images from “Blood Brother”, the October 31st episode of Winchester Brother badassery. Or is it? Looks like more Dean and Benny, and I know some fans get salty over any relationship getting more screen time than Sam and Dean. They were finally rid of Misha Collins’ Castiel, who we learned a bit more about this week, and now have to deal with Benny the vamp from Purgatory. Anyways, Benny and Dean have some business to take care of and things get a bit hot, and Dean needs to call in Sam, who is still thinking about Amelia.
Why? Well we are getting ahead of our selves a bit, but you can see the couple being pretty chummy in pics we have for you from next week’s episode “Heartache”. We know how Sam gets...

As I’m sure any fans of Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and yes, Misha Collins, know that Supernatural makes its return tonight to the CW tonight to kick of the Winchester brothers’ 8th season of adventures. If by chance the season 8 premiere date is caching you off guard, it may be because Supernatural is now airing on Wednesday nights. At any rate, the CW sent over this image as a last minute tidbit to get you ready for tonight, to go along with the full gallery of images we had brought you before of the season opener.
Tonight’s episode is titled “We Need to Talk About Kevin”, and this image is labeled as from “What’s Up Tiger Mommy?” (8.02) which is actually next week’s episode, and while the image of shows us Dean in Purgatory – the pic came with a tag “Hell Ain’t Got Nothing on Purgatory...

Seems like the season 8 Supernatural promos just keep rolling in! Yesterday we brought you the return of the Winchester brothers - Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles - via a clip from the season premiere and now we are following it up with an image gallery from the second episode, titled “What’s Up Tiger Mommy?” This has to be a welcomed tease for fans of Misha Collins and his portrayal of fallen angel/god Castiel who we only got the faintest glimpses of in an initial video teaser.
It looks like we are getting Purgatory flashbacks of Dean, Castiel, and a new face on the show played by Ty Olsson, a vampire named Benny. Dean and Castiel got zapped to what looks like the fairly unpleasant place at the end of last season. From what we can gleam from yesterday’s clip (link above), they probably had to kick all...

Chicago – A film marketing itself as being “based on a true story” doesn’t hold the same teeth it once did. With truly original stories a financial high risk for Hollywood and many films leaning toward being based on a best-selling novel, the genre that is based on a true story or “inspired by true events” has increasingly taken creative liberties.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
Beware, filmgoers. Just a nugget of truth doesn’t amount to a true gold rush. In the case of the new horror film “The Possession,” the only validity to this film’s claim of being based on a true story is that there was indeed a well-reported dybbuk box (also commonly spelled dibbuk). The story involved real people trying to offload it on eBay once it allegedly haunted them.
Today, most horror films claiming real-life truth aren’t really based on a true story or much of one.

Evil lives inside this seriously spooky new clip from Sam Raimi’s The Possession! Sneak a peek at Em as she discovers the demon that doesn’t fear God.
Based on a true story, The Possession is the terrifying account of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil.
Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em.s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

Chicago – The month of August contain the “dog days” of summer, when the season lumbers to a hazy and hot conclusion. How appropriate that the third film of a popular series would be called ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,’ because like summer’s end it feels lethargic. Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron and Steve Zahn star.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
This installment of the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series has a couple of distinctions – Zachary Gordon, who portrays the title character, has hit puberty, with a deeper voice and seemingly less energy to tackle wimpy Greg. Secondly, the emergence of background characters in telling the story. Greg’s Dad and brother are more importantly featured than best friend Rowley, contrary to the first two films. This all adds up to less enthusiastic “Diary,” which meanders without any spark, a contractual obligation rather than a beloved adaptation from the popular books.

Chicago – Australian actor Alex Russell has a penchant for exploring the darker sides of the teenage psyche. He made his film debut as a loathsome bully in Ben C. Lucas’ “Wasted on the Young,” before landing a lead role in Josh Trank’s surprise hit, “Chronicle,” about three teens who suddenly acquire superpowers and are excited by the dangerous magnitude of their mysterious abilities.
The dynamic between high school buddies Matt (Russell), Andrew (Dane DeHaan) and Steve (Michael B. Jordan) feels wholly authentic, and Trank finds ingenious ways of fusing in-camera effects with the naturalistic visual style inherent in the found footage genre. Chicagoans who missed the film during its initial theatrical run this year will be able to catch it at midnight June 8th and June 9th at the Music Box Theatre.
