L’economie du Couple
Director: Joachim Lafosse
Writers: Joachim Lafosse, Fanny Burdino, Mazarine Pingeot, Thomas van Zuylen
Belgian director Joachim Lafosse began production on L’economie du Couple several months prior to the premiere of The White Knights, an excellent depiction of the Zoe’s Ark humanitarian scandal. Mostly known for rather intimate, upsetting social dramas (2006’s Private Property ranks as one of his best), his 2012 drama Our Children won a special acting award for star Emilie Dequenne out of Directors’ Fortnight. His latest stars Berenice Bejo opposite director Cedric Kahn (who has appeared in several other director’s works recently, including as one of a pair of doctor’s in Axelle Ropert’s Miss and the Doctors, 2013) as a couple breaking up over ten years. Discrepancies over property ownership ensue.

Cineuropa reports that Red Lights/Roberto Succo director Cédric Kahn will be the significant other in Joachim Lafosse’s L’economie d’un couple. Kahn who often moonlights as an actor joins the already announced Berenice Bejo on the project which was announced during Cannes. Wasting no time with the eventual (Locarno or Venice is earmarked) unveiling of Les Chevaliers Blancs, Lafosse commenced production on his seventh feature film this week on a project that is a topical economic reality: splitsville in the middle class.

Paris — Their early courtship was hardly discreet: President Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni visited Disneyland Paris together, then jetted off to Jordan with cameras in tow. Weeks later, they were married.
Now, Bruni-Sarkozy is about to have a baby, and the pending birth has taken on the air of a state secret – revealing the caution within Sarkozy's political team as the unpopular president eyes a possible re-election bid.
Bruni-Sarkozy is poised to become the first first lady in modern France to give birth. Sarkozy, who has long cast himself a mold-breaker, is the first French leader to divorce – and remarry – while in office. They wed in early 2008, 3-1/2 months after he divorced the now-former Cecilia Sarkozy.
The hush-hush atmosphere over the upcoming birth says a lot about France.
France's media establishment has a reputation for cushy ties to political powers-that-be, whose personal lives have mostly been off-limits. And conventional wisdom holds that the French public,...

Veteran actor Gerard Depardieu shocked TV viewers in his native France earlier last week when he insulted a fellow guest on a chat show. Depardieu appeared to be drunk during his appearance on arts program Ca Balance A Paris, where he was promoting his new cookery book Ma Cuisine. The Cyrano De Bergerac star repeatedly called fellow interviewee and journalist Martin Monestier "un abruti", roughly translated as "a prat", after becoming angry with Monestier's criticism of his book. When Monestier challenged Depardieu to call him something else, the actor swiftly labeled him "un tête de lard" - "a d**khead". Depardieu then ignored host Michel Field's attempts to restore order and said, "I don't like critics. I like critics when they are right. When they are positive... Or even negative." The 56-year-old then pretended to notice another guest, Mazarine Pingeot, the daughter of former French president Francois Mitterand, and exclaimed, "Hello beautiful. I didn't see you there," before kissing her on the cheek. Depardieu recently claimed to have cut back on his excessive drinking after undergoing an emergency quintuple bypass operation. Last month, he said, "I have learnt a lot about my body since my heart attack. I don't drink as much now as before. I do sometimes drink more than I should..."...
