Sophie Aldred's Ace was a Doctor Who companion ahead of her time. We look back at the girl from Perivale's time in the Tardis...
In 1987, Doctor Who broke the companion mould with Dorothy Gale McShane - better known of course as Ace - the streetwise, working class kid who blew up the school art room, and became the only cautioned arsonist to ever board the Tardis.
With a fondness for homemade explosives, and hailing from a very different background to those she succeeded, Ace became the first Doctor Who companion to truly develop before our very eyes as she journeyed through adolescence and into adulthood. Laying the foundations for future companions to build upon, she is perhaps not only a pivotal character in Doctor Who history, but genre TV in general.

Or so claims Bleeding Cool.
Apparently the credits included in the leaked Doctor Who scripts (you’ve heard about those, yes? More on those later) say the new credits are by “BBC Wales Graphics based on original idea by Billy Hanshaw”.
Billy Hanshaw posted these credits some months back, which caused many clothes to become stained.
If this is true, it’s an amazingly cool thing for the BBC to admit that a fan inspired them (well, he’s a professional in media, but he is a Dw fan), and more importantly, to provide credit.
It’s not the first time that’s happened in the new series. A good bit of the plot of Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel came from a Big Finish Audio adventure, “Spare Parts” by Marc Platt. Showrunner Russell T Davies got Platt a writer’s fee, and he received a “Thanks to” credit in the episode.

Doctor Who is a little nugget of TV gold, that much is a given - but this year, the world's longest-running sci-fi drama is shining just that little bit brighter as it celebrates 50 years on our screens and its golden anniversary.
It's no secret that the Week in Geek is just a little bit passionate about all things Who, so with just four days to go until 'The Day of the Doctor' inevitably blows our minds, we're picking the show's 'golden' moments.
From 1963 to 2013, here's each Doctor's finest hour - 11 mind-blowing moments from William Hartnell, Matt Smith and everyone in between!
> Doctor Who 50th: Digital Spy's greatest ever story revealed
"One day, I shall come back..."
No big surprise here - unquestionably William Hartnell's finest moment as the first Doctor comes when our crotchety hero bids a sad farewell to his granddaughter Susan, trusting her to "go forward in...

Top 10 Andrew Blair 20 Sep 2013 - 07:00
Andrew counts down Doctor Who's 10 best Cyberman stories from across the TV series, audio dramas and comic strips...
Cybermen; Doctor Who's other monster. The one no-one knows quite what to do with, who show glimpses of what they can do, but don't look like dislodging the upper echelon from its perch.
They're Arsenal, basically. What is Nightmare in Silver if not Mehmet Ozil? A big name attached with lots excitement generated, and sure there are some clever ideas, but ultimately it's not what was necessary. I'd apologise to Arsenal fans but what are they going to do? Throw a trophy at me?
Like the Cybermen presumably do between their on-screen appearances, the writers will be heading back to the drawing board to discuss what they've learned. Meanwhile, here's our list of the top ten Cybermen stories across the entirety of Doctor Who.

The 50th anniversary of Doctor Who is right around the corner and, with mere months to go before the celebrations kick off in earnest, Digital Spy wants to know the answer to a very important question - who is your favourite Doctor?
Join us every day from August 28 to September 6 as we take a look back at a half-century of Who and - in a new daily blog - weigh up the merits of each Doctor - from William Hartnell to Matt Smith, before finally revealing DS readers' favourite Doctor of all time on Monday, September 9.
Let's turn now to a Scots actor who's *technically* the longest-serving Doctor - he's Time's Champion with a penchant for spoon-play... Sylvester McCoy!
It's been said that from small beginnings can come great things and it's also been said, on numerous occasions, that 1987's 'Time and Rani' was a rather inauspicious introduction to Sylvester McCoy's seventh Doctor.

Ryan Gosling has just caught another big name for his upcoming directorial debut, "How to Catch a Monster." Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan ("Atonement") is joining the fantasy-drama, which also stars Christina Hendricks, Matt Smith ("Doctor Who"), Eva Mendes, and Ben Mendelsohn. "Monstar" is describes as a noirish modern day fairytale set in a dying city, where a single mother named Billy (Hendricks) stumbles into a dark fantasy underworld after her teen son finds a hidden pathway leading to an underwater town. Ronan's role has yet to be revealed. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel are producing along with Gosling via his Phantasma Films banner, and...

I have a problem with rumors. I like them, but I always take them with a grain of salt, even as I post a story about them -like the latest one suggesting a Star Wars version of The Seven Samurai. I knew it was going to be denied, yet I felt compelled to post it. The question is, do sites like this and others just post the rumors -without ever verifying if they are true or not- just to get eyes to their sites?
Which is where I stand now with the latest speculation about Doctor Who‘s fiftieth anniversary celebration that began this month and will continue through the year. A lot of information has come out, but only a tiny bit has been confirmed -from BBC releasing short-story ebooks featuring each of the eleven Doctors one a month by well known, popular children’s authors to Big Finish...

Ask me what my favourite Scooby Doo episode is, and I'd promptly say that it's the one that takes place in the creepy mansion called What The Hex Going On. In case you haven't seen it, a guy dresses up as the ghost of Elias Kingston, a blue faced old wretch who apparently has the power to age people into skeletons (visually, he's the spit of Thatcher's press secretary Bernard Ingham). It's great stuff, even if the villain inexplicably wears glasses underneath all the heavy make-up.
I only mention this since I've seen Ghost Light, a fortunate return to form for Doctor Who after the silly Battlefield. I don't know, Ghost Light just reminds me of Hex for some odd reason – both stories take place in a spooky old mansion with sliding doors, shadows and creepy rooms, complete with a baddie in long flowing robes wreaking havoc. Plus, the title...
