Plot: Solène Marchand is a 40-year-old single mom who, at her ex-husband’s request, takes their teenage daughter to Coachella. In a surprising turn of events, Solène strikes up a budding romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of August Moon, a famous boy band
Review: Whether you like it or not, we live in an era when fan fiction can be turned into big-screen feature films. From Twilight grew Fifty Shades of Grey, and both franchises made a lot of money for their producers. The popularity of boy band-turned-solo artist Harry Styles has been transformed into a bestselling novel and now the feature film The Idea of You. Maya Hawke was moved to tears during her 'Inside Out 2' audition. The 25-year-old actress lends her voice to Anxiety in the Pixar animated sequel and explained how she was left overcome with emotion because of the "relatable" nature of the story about the emotions of a teenage girl.Maya told Empire magazine: "There's something about this story and these characters that I think really brings fundamental truths about our experience to the surface."It's so relatable, so emotional, so pure, that whether you want to or not, you use what you have and what you've been through."Maya admits that she even resorted to begging for a role in the film – which also features the voices of Amy Poehler, Tony Hale and Ayo Edebiri – as she felt the move underlined how much she would invest into the part. The 'Stranger Things' star said: "It was an extremely desperate thing to do,...

While Jerry Seinfeld and his writing partner Spike Feresten didn’t necessarily have an initial plan for the casting in Unfrosted, the pair knew they had to have Hugh Grant as Frosted Flakes’ mascot Tony the Tiger.
The director and writer recently spoke to IndieWire about how they scored the Notting Hill star for the role of Thurl Ravenscroft in the Netflix Pop-Tart comedy.
“There was a long time where we didn’t have anybody to make this movie. We had the budget, we had the script, but we didn’t have any people to play the parts,” Seinfeld recalled. “That was one of the most terrifying moments. We would go into this little room that we had with each part on a 3×5 card on the wall. And we had [Jim] Gaffigan as Kellogg — and that was it. And there were like 30 parts.”

Bill Burr was in the middle of a standup set in the original room at The Comedy Cellar when his cell phone rang: It was Jerry Seinfeld. What do you do? Burr answered.
Seinfeld wanted Burr to play JFK in his Pop-Tarts (fake) origin story, “Unfrosted.” Burr immediately accepted the role — and then went back to telling jokes to the paying customers.
It was the fastest (and the most public) “yes” that Seinfeld and his writing partner Spike Feresten say they got from a tremendous ensemble comedy cast that includes Seinfeld himself, as well as Jim Gaffigan, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Hugh Grant, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer — there’s honestly just too many to list. That wasn’t always the case.

Back in March, Pixar Animation invited /Film to check out 35 minutes of their upcoming animated sequel "Inside Out 2." Along with the screening of the film's promising, clever, and hilarious first act, a series of presentations from the many filmmakers working on the movie took us behind the scenes to learn all about how the next chapter of Riley's life came together.
In "Inside Out 2," the core emotions find themselves overwhelmed when the now 13-year-old Riley enters puberty and begins experiencing some new emotions. Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear, and Disgust are confronted with some drastic changes in how Riley approaches life when Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) show up and start messing with the console inside their girl's min.

Pixar Animation is all set to release the much-awaited Inside Out 2 in June of this year. Coming nine years after the first film, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the sequel introduces new emotions in the protagonist Riley, who has to deal with a new phase of her life: teenage. Apart from regulars Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith, the sequel sees Maya Hawke and Ayo Edebiri join the cast as new emotions.
Hawke voices the emotion of Anxiety in Inside Out 2, which enters Headquarters when Riley decides to try out for a hockey team. The makers reportedly did a lot of research on what kind of emotions a thirteen-year-old usually begins to have and fixed on a few, including anxiety. The makers also reportedly took inspiration from one Adam Sandler film to treat the visuals for scenes involving Anxiety.

Inside Out 2 will introduce Anxiety as one of Riley’s new emotions and rather appropriately, Pixar looked at Uncut Gems as a reference.
Inside Out may very well be one of the finest animated films of the last few decades and Pixar is currently busy getting a sequel, Inside Out 2, ready for release in June.
There’s a lot of pressure on Pixar and director Kelsey Mann to match Pete Docter’s brilliant first film, but the trailer looks pretty good. Adding to the hype, Polygon reports that the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems was one of the inspirations for Inside Out 2.
Polygon visited Pixar and not only got a good look at the upcoming sequel, but also chatted to many of the people working on it. Inside Out 2 will follow Riley as she enters her teen years and experiences a whole roster of new emotions.

When Pixar released "Inside Out" back in 2015, the studio introduced us to five core emotions inside the mind of Riley, an 11-year old girl leaving her hometown of Minnesota and moving with her parents to a new home in San Francisco. That came with a lot of complicated feelings, and the emotions of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) helped Riley worked through all the hurdles, allowing the feelings to learn something about themselves and the girl they've nurtured over the years.
"Inside Out 2" is about to make Riley's life even more complicated by introducing some new emotions. Though Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust are all back, they have to deal with the arrival of Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser). At the end of March, I had the thrilling opportunity to travel to San Francisco, California, to visit Pixar Animation Studios for a Press Day preview of the upcoming animated sequel, Inside Out 2. Kelsey Mann directs Inside Out 2 for his feature directorial debut after helming episodes of the Megas Xlr TV series, an episode of the Green Screen Show, and the Pixar short Party Central, featuring characters from Pete Docter’s Monsters Inc.

In 2015, Pixar's "Inside Out" introduced us to a wonderful ensemble of characters in the form of five core emotions inside the mind of an 11-year old girl named Riley. Joy (Amy Poehler) was the leader of the crew, trying to keep Riley happy all the time. Sadness (Phyllis Smith) was constantly stressing out Joy by making Riley feel down in the dumps. Anger (Lewis Black) came out when Riley just couldn't deal anymore, Fear (Bill Hader) made sure Riley kept herself safe, though sometimes irrationally scared, and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) ensured that she never ate broccoli or dealt with anything cringey that might upset her.
In "Inside Out 2," all the core emotions are comfortable in keeping Riley on the straight and narrow, complete with a new belief system and sense of self (more on that in our full footage reaction from our visit to Pixar Animation), even though...

Pixar brought "Inside Out" to theaters in 2015, and even though the story was squarely focused on an 11-year old girl named Riley and all the emotions she felt when moving across the United States, away from her childhood home, audiences easily identified with all the emotional trials and tribulations that come with growing up. Director Pete Docter and the animation studio effectively made tears come out of our face by imagining the feelings that our own feelings have inside our mind, and the movie easily ranks as one of Pixar's best.
Now, nearly a decade later, director Kelsey Mann is tapping back into Riley's mind as she embarks on the even more complicated hurdle of becoming a teenager, complete with a new range of complex emotions that throw headquarters and the core emotions of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Liza Lapira), and Fear (Tony Hale) into a tizzy.

Pixar director Kelsey Mann introduced the first 35 minutes of “Inside Out 2” at a recent studio sneak peek event, comparing how happy he looked at his 5th birthday party versus how uncomfortable he was at his 13th celebration. His teen angst was the driving force in making the sequel to Pete Docter’s Oscar-winning original.
“I hated everyone looking at me,” Mann said, “and I think it’s about the new emotions that come up at this age. You’re suddenly self-aware, and you’re extremely self-conscious. You start to look at yourself and see nothing but flaws. I was thinking, ‘Am I really worth all this celebrating?’ That’s what we want to do with this film. Amy Poehler radiated retro charm in a black-and-white shirt dress as she was honored with the Vanguard Award at the recently concluded 2024 CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards held at Omnia nightclub inside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
I’ve always been fascinated by Poehler’s red carpet style, which is often a playful mix of fun and sophistication. This holds true for her most recent red carpet outing.

When Ryan Gosling was first announced to host "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, most of us expected a giggle-heavy affair. His first two hosting gigs, from "Close Encounter" to "Terrezano's," had Gosling breaking in nearly every live sketch, so it was no surprise when Gosling broke constantly last night as well. What we didn't see coming was just how much the rest of the cast broke, especially in the sketch where a serious intellectual panel is interrupted by two guys in the audience who inexplicably look like Beavis and Butt-Head.
First we're introduced to Beavis, played by Ryan Gosling, who insists that he's not pulling a prank, that he's never heard of Beavis before, and has never been told how much he looks like him. It's an unlikely story, but Heidi Gardener's Bobbi Moore and Kenan Thompson's Professor Hemming are willing to move past it, so long as "Beavis...

We’re leaving Las Vegas.
CinemaCon 2024 is over — time for studios to go out and prove their pitches at the box office. Based on what we saw, or really what we didn’t see, that will be an uphill battle.
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the folks and films that showed up. Arguably, the biggest star to attend CinemaCon was Kevin Costner. The cynical point of view? He was pitching not one but two “Horizon” films to theater owners — and simultaneously pitching third and fourth installments to Warner Bros. Plus, Costner received a trophy (the CinemaCon Visionary Award), for which WB execs shooed him offstage just to call him back up. Kinda silly. Speaking of WB execs and no-shows, if David Zaslav was in town, he didn’t come on stage.
Jeff Goldblum did, as did his fellow “Wicked” co-stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Yeoh.

Speaking of WB execs and no-shows, if David Zaslav was in town, he didn’t come on stage.
Jeff Goldblum did, as did his fellow “Wicked” co-stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Yeoh.

After Dennis Quaid accepted CinemaCon’s cinema icon award during the closing night Big Screen Achievement Awards, host Kevin Frazier surprised the veteran actor with a birthday cake as the crowd inside the Colosseum sang “Happy Birthday.”
Quaid turned 70 on Tuesday, and it was a fitting celebration for the star, who was feeling particularly reflective about where he’s at in his life and career at this chapter. “I’m on my sixth decade in this wonderful business,” Quaid said in accepting the honor, which arrives as he has The Long Game in theaters this weekend and the release of Reagan on the horizon. “To tell you the truth, I really do feel like I have more fun. I enjoy it now more than when I was young and hungry — not trying to get anywhere. I do it because I love it and that makes me kind of the luckiest guy on Earth,...

Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o said that when word came her way that she’d been selected to receive CinemaCon’s star of the year award during the closing night Big Screen Achievement Awards, it led her to ponder what cinema has meant to her.
“One of my strongest memories from my adolescence came to mind,” said the 41-year-old actress while accepting the trophy inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Thursday night. “My very first date was going to see a movie at the cinema in Nairobi, Kenya, where I grew up. I was 16. Not only was I going out with this boy I liked for the first time, but I would be watching my crush Leonardo DiCaprio in none other than Titanic.
Nyong’o, honored for her upcoming turn in Paramount Pictures’ thriller A Quiet Place: Day One, said she was beyond excited to see DiCaprio in the 1997 disaster epic from James Cameron.

Some of the biggest laughs of CinemaCon came from Disney and Pixar’s well-received debut of the first 35 minutes of “Inside Out 2,” the sequel to its beloved Oscar-winning original film about a young girl named Riley and the emotions in her head. The sequel opens June 14.
Amy Poehler, who returns as the emotion Joy, was on hand in Las Vegas Thursday to introduce the “new story that captures the beauty and hilarity of the emotions we experience on a daily basis.”
It begins with Riley – now entering her teens – back playing ice hockey while reintroducing the emotions from the first film: Joy, Sadness (Phyllis Smith) and Anger (Lewis Black) along with Fear and Disgust. Riley has grown to be kind, and with her friends is among the players invited to hockey camp.

Disney is closing out CinemaCon 2024 with extended looks at upcoming films, including Pixar’s highly anticipated sequel, Inside Out 2. Coincidentally, I visited Pixar Studios at the end of March for an in-depth look at the emotionally driven sequel, which finds audiences getting reacquainted with Riley, the same young woman who let us walk around inside her head in the Pete Docter and Ronnie Del Carmen original in 2015.
During Disney’s CinemaCon panel, the Mouse House screened 35 emotional minutes of Inside Out 2 for the crowd. JoBlo’s editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray, was in the crowd, detailing elements of the preview for us to share.

In keeping with CinemaCon tradition, Disney this afternoon treated attendees to the first 35 minutes of its latest Pixar movie; this year being Inside Out 2.
The sequel to the 2015 pic brings viewers back into the mind of the now-teenage Riley (Kensington Tallman) as her emotions try to keep up with her new feelings. And while Pixar has gotten the short end of the stick during the pandemic with its movies Soul, Luca and Turning Red being sent to Disney+ and Lightyear shunned by Toy Story purists, Inside Out 2 had the Colosseum in stitches.
It was punctuated by the humor of Amy Poehler and Lewis Black, along with Maya Hawke’s scene-stealing turn as the antagonist Anxiety, who takes over the soul of young teen Riley from the feelings of Joy, Anger, Sadness and Fear. Let’s also not forget about Envy (Ayo Edebiri), who is in cahoots with Anxiety for the spirit of Riley.

Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman are no strangers to committing to the bit. Poehler shared that she and Offerman used to make out while filming Parks and Recreation in an attempt to get the moment into the show’s blooper reel.
“Nick and I used to do a thing every year for the blooper reel where we would end a scene by making out, and the crew would hate it,” Poehler told The Independent UK in an oral history celebrating the 15th anniversary of NBC’s beloved sitcom. “Everybody hated it, and it really made us laugh.”
Poehler played Leslie Knope, the deputy director of the (fictional) Pawnee, Indiana, Parks and Recreation Department. Her forever upbeat optimism was balanced by Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson, a cynical libertarian working as the director of Parks and Rec.
“It was like watching your aunt and uncle making out or something,” Poehler continued...

“Parks and Recreation” debuted April 9, 2009, just three months after Barack Obama’s inauguration. A perfect alignment, one might think, considering how much the NBC sitcom embodied the 44’s “Yes we can” spirit. However, the tone of its much-neglected, much-derided first season was more akin to the Bush era: cynical, polarizing, and slightly clueless.
Subsequently, its opening six episodes have largely been consigned to history: the general advice to newcomers is skip them entirely and start with the sunnier second season. But while the show undoubtedly benefited from its course correction, its initial glimpse into the fictional Pawnee’s madcap P&r department isn’t the disaster often purported.
Much of the criticism inevitably focused on its similarities to “The Office.” The show was conceived as a spin-off from the corporate satire after all, and shares a creator (Greg Daniels), cast member (Rashida Jones), and mockumentary format. Its premiere was even...

When Parks and Recreation debuted on NBC on April 9, 2009, did anyone expect it to become one of the most beloved TV comedies of recent history? That first season only got so-so reviews and unfavorable comparisons to its mockumentary predecessor, The Office. But you can’t keep Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) down. Parks and Rec’s second season humanized the show’s lead character and deepened the quirky personalities of her team at the Parks Department of the fictional Pawnee, Indiana, and viewers were duly hooked. Now here we are 15 years after the series premiere, and we suggest you “treat yo’self” to the following episodes, rated as the series’ best by IMDb voters. 10. Season 3, Episode 16: “Li’l Sebastian” Light up “5,000 Candles in the Wind”: This is the episode in which the Pawnee gang say their farewells to the titular miniature horse, while Tom (Aziz Ansari) changes careers and...

Leslie Knope & Michael Scott: How Two Very Different Bosses Set the Tone of Their Respective Sitcoms
It's been 15 years this month since Parks & Rec began dazzling us with its relatable humor and made the cast household names.
With our multiple-article celebration, we'll look at several aspects of the beloved sitcom, including how closely it related to its partner, The Office, despite having two distinct perspectives.
The Office and Parks and Recreation often run together in the minds of sitcom fans of a particular era. Both shows aired on NBC and overlapped for many of the same years.
Both were in the mockumentary genre, and both shows achieved popularity and award attention. Both had a second life in the early days of binge-streaming when new audiences discovered them.
Both were set in workplaces, and both were put in a smallish city in which the universe of characters sprawled continuously over the run of the show.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

Drew Barrymore had Maya Rudolph as a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show and recalled she had to beg to do the Saturday Night Live digital short “Body Fuzion.”
The daytime show host recalled that back in 2007, she had to plead to do the skit that parodied ’80s workout videos. Lonely Island, consisting of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer, produced the skit that almost didn’t happen.
“I remember that week that Akiva, Jorma, and Andy were like, ‘You know what? We aren’t going to do a short this week,'” Barrymore recalled. “And I was like, no, no, no, no.”
Rudolph noted that “those were early days before they had to do one every single week because they were so good.”
“I kept begging,” Barrymore added. “I would go into their office every single day and I was like, I know it’s me again.”

No, back in Season 1, Parks and Recreation had a Leslie Knope problem. The series’s main character — an idealistic Indiana bureaucrat played by Amy Poehler — was initially framed as a peppy naif, lacking in self-awareness and unable to see how little respect her coworkers had for her. She was less of a likable underdog and more of a pathetic figure, isolated and ignored. In other words: She wasn’t much fun to hang out with for a half-hour each week.

In the "The Simpsons" episode "Future-Drama", Bart (Nancy Cartwright) and Lisa (Yeardley Smith) visit the mad scientist Professor Frink (Hank Azaria) to get a glimpse into their future. Frink has invented a future-predicting computer, and the Simpson children ask to see what they might look like as teenagers. In the year 2013, Bart is dating a cool skateboarder named Jenda (Amy Poehler) and Lisa, on her way to medical school, has had an on-again-off-again relationship with Milhouse (Pamela Hayden). Marge has been dating Krusty the Clown (Dan Castellaneta) after leaving Homer for committing a flagrant financial crime.
