The 2024 Golden Globe Awards were filled with smiles, laughter, tears and record-breaking moments as well as some awkward ones from the presenters, winners, host and Hollywood audience. From Lily Gladstone and Ali Wong making history with their wins to host Jo Koy struggling to get laughs during his monologue and Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell showing off their dance moves onstage, here are some of the night’s most memorable moments.
‘Succession’ Ties Golden Globes Record
Succession took home the Golden Globe Award for best TV drama series Sunday — tying a record for the awards in the process. The HBO series won its third Globe in the category, following its victories at the 2020 and 2022 ceremonies. Sunday’s victory ties it with The X-Files (1994, 1996 and 1997) and Mad Men (2007-09) for the most wins for best drama at the Golden Globes. Both Succession and The Crown came into the night with a chance to tie the record.

TV giant Norman Lear, who died Dec. 5 at 101, leaves behind arguably the single most valuable body of work ever committed to the medium. On seminal series like All in the Family, Maude and The Jeffersons, Lear dared to tackle issues then considered unthinkable sitcom fodder — rape, abortion, homosexuality, racism, alcoholism — with a genius’ eye and ear for capturing their moral complexities while poking at the foibles of the American working class. These six episodes, however, stand out among the rest for having actively moved the needle on public opinion — and in doing so elevated Lear’s work from mere entertainment to timeless agitprop art.
1. All in the Family — Season 8 — “Cousin Liz” — Original Air Date: Oct. 9, 1977
Lear’s magnum opus, All in the Family, tackled the most hot-button issues throughout its nine seasons, from rape to racism to the war in Vietnam. But one particularly resounding episode was “Cousin Liz,” in...

The author behind Netflix’s The Witcher franchise had some words about his relationship with the streamer, or lack thereof.
Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski says Netflix “never listened” to his ideas for the hit adaptation of his novels and games.
Sapkowski was asked at Vienna Comic-Con last week if he’s given Netflix any feedback and he replied with a laugh, “Maybe, I gave them some ideas, but they never listened to me. But it’s normal.” He then broke into an impression of a Netflix executive and said dismissively, “Who’s this? It’s a writer, it’s nobody.”
Netflix had no comment on the remarks. But the Witcher team has had a rough time the past couple years in terms of its relationship with the show’s passionate fan community, which has protested many of the show’s deviations from Sapkowski’s source material.

So, what’s a subscriber, anyway?
With the Writers Guild of America’s interim agreement details revealed, the stakes are high on figuring that out. The guild’s deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers breaks new ground when it comes to streaming residuals, with writers set to get healthy bonuses if a specified success metric is hit.
“The success-based residual will pay writers of streaming series and movies a bonus if the equivalent of 20 percent or more of a streaming service’s U.S. subscribers watch it within three months of release,” as The Hollywood Reporter’s Rick Porter explained it.
A “view” in this case means the total viewing time divided by its running time, a metric that can be applied fairly easily across streaming services. Importantly, those success bonuses will rely not only on the “view,” but on subscribers as well. And that’s where things get tricky.

With a tentative deal reached between writers and the studios and streamers, ABC has decided to move forward with its premiere of the 32nd season of Dancing With the Stars.
As of late last week, ABC was considering delaying the return of the veteran reality dance competition after strikers picketed outside the show’s rehearsal spaces and one of the show’s contestants, Matt Walsh (Veep), said he would “pause” his involvement with the series.
On Monday, ABC announced the show will return as scheduled on Tuesday at 8 p.m. (with Walsh included), with the season also airing live on Disney+ and being made available the next day on Hulu.
On Sunday, the Writers Guild of America announced it had reached a tentative deal with the studios on a new contract that would resolve the historic 146-day strike. The deal still needs to be ratified by WGA members to take effect.

Drew Barrymore is explaining why she made the controversial decision to return her talk show to production amid the ongoing Writers Guild strike, telling critics in a now-deleted video that there’s “nothing I can do or say in this moment to make” resuming production without her picketing writers “Ok.”
In a video statement that was posted to her Instagram on Friday (below), Barrymore reiterated the previous assertion from CBS Media Ventures that The Drew Barrymore Show will be returning in “compliance” with the WGA’s strike rules. That’s despite ongoing backlash from members of the union and the union itself picketing outside CBS Broadcast Center in New York as taping resumed this week.
“I certainly couldn’t have expected this kind of attention,” the actress, producer and talk show host says about her decision. “We aren’t gonna break rules, and we will be in compliance. I wanted...

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai (May 23, Max)

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai
I have never seen the Gremlins movie, but I know that gremlins smell bad and want to eat us. Just watching five minutes of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, I think it is already a really good TV show.
The show is 25 percent happy, 25 percent sad, 25 percent funny, and 25 percent disgusting. The disgusting parts are when fingers come off. It’s about a kid, Sam (Izaac Wang), who says, “I have no faith in myself. I can’t do it.” He has to hide this gremlin named Gizmo, who is so cute, and return it to its home. He finds this girl, Elle (Gabrielle Nevaeh Green), and they go on a big adventure to find its home. He’s kind of like a goody-two-shoes and the...

There’s drama back at the ranch.
Matthew McConaughey is in talks with Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan for a spinoff series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The negotiations are described as ongoing with no deal yet struck, but the idea is for the Interstellar actor to lead a new series set within the Yellowstone universe.
The news comes as Deadline reports that Paramount Network may be moving to end its franchise-leader Yellowstone early due to scheduling battles with star Kevin Costner.
Costner reportedly demanded to only work for a single week on the second half of season five, which is returning this summer. The first half of the season aired its midseason finale Jan. 1. The episode set up a potentially deadly battle ahead between Costner’s character and his son, played by Wes Bentley.

Kenan Thompson Jokes About Netflix Concerns, Oscars Drama, Hollywood Diversity in Monologue
Kenan Thompson poked fun at a number of timely topics, from Netflix’s stock issues to Hollywood diversity to the controversial 2022 Oscars telecast, during his monologue as host of the Emmys. He joked that he’s from Saturday Night Live, but some viewers might know him from his self-titled NBC sitcom — “Just not enough of you to keep us from getting canceled.” Thompson later said about some key nominees, “Stranger Things was hard to watch because it’s so scary, Squid Game was hard to watch because it’s so violent, and Yellowjackets was hard to watch because it’s on Showtime.” He said Squid Game was about people struggling to make money.

The phrase ‘adapted for present-day audiences’ can mean a lot when talking about the Looney Tunes, though hopefully Rick Porter of The Hollywood Reporter is simply stating that the new Looney Tunes show on HBO Max, set to premiere on May 2th, will feature updated story lines and material that is more pertinent to the era. One can only only hope he doesn’t mean that the popular toons have gone entirely PC, though from the trailer it doesn’t appear that this is the case. With more people in this day and age worried that their kids will emulate what they

The series finale of "How I Met Your Mother" airs Monday (March 31), and it's prompted a lot of nostalgia here at Zap2it. The show loves jumping back and forth in time, so we thought we'd do the same.
Here are our 10 favorite episodes of the series, along with one more that packed a big wallop at the end. They're arranged in the order in which they aired.
'Sweet Taste of Liberty'
(Season 1, episode 3) Ted and Barney's first wild adventure: A night out to pick up women turns into a trip to Philadelphia, being taken into custody by airport security and a last-minute detour to lick the Liberty Bell.
While Ted might complain about how crazy Barney is most of the time, their adventure to Philly and back was indeed legendary. Besides, now he knows what the Liberty Bell tastes like: Freedom and pennies.

Bud Light: Epic Night, part I
We aren't sure how this ad is going to turn out, but Bud Light has sent an unsuspecting, non-actor named Ian on a wild night by accepting a Bud Light from a girl in a bar. Kudos to the ploy of having an on-going plot all night with everyone waiting to see what's next.

Doritos: Time Machine

The series finale of "Breaking Bad" airs Sunday (Sept. 29), and it's a pretty safe bet that, given the show's way with the big moment, fans will be talking about it for a long time.
After all, it's been creating indelible characters and images for five-plus years. We could spend hours discussing every did-that-just-happen moment, from Tortuga's head on a tortoise to the cousins crawling through the desert to Walt maniacally laughing in the crawl space. But, you know, that would take hours.
The Zap2it staff has winnowed that list down to eight scenes and moments -- some big, some small -- that have stuck with us the most over the years.
Pants on the ground
I'm pretty sure no other TV series in history has opened with a shot of a pair of khakis floating through the air. Thus even in its first 15 seconds, "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan...

ABC’s Oscar-night promotional blitz from a week ago failed to deliver dividends, as Once Upon a Time hit a series low and Red Widow placed last in the demo among its broadcast rivals.
Resuming Season 2 with 7.2 million total viewers and a 2.1 demo rating, Once was down 5 and 12 percent from its last fresh outing. (Its previous demo low was 2.4.) Red Widow‘s two-hour debut meanwhile averaged 7 million viewers and a 1.4 rating, down 36 percent in the demo from both the premieres of 666 Park Avenue (7 mil/2.2) and Gcb (7.6 mil/2.2).

Ravens? 49ers? Brothers John and Jim Harbaugh coaching against one another in the Super Bowl? Sure. But a significant segment of the audience for Super Bowl Xlvii is watching the commercials as much as the game.

Budweiser: Black Crown
Budweiser has introduced its Black Crown beer, which is an amber lager with a higher alcohol content. And based on that stupid commercial, one has to wonder if the beer sucks too. Oooh, everyone's in black. Oooh, look how edgy we all are. Like hot, trendy people in a hot, trendy bar are going to drink Budweiser. Sorry, not buying it. Also, the goth lipstick is doing you no favors.

Thanksgiving is upon us!
Before we descend into our food comas, the Zap2it Team wanted to give thanks for some of the pop culture moments we're most thankful for in 2012. We've got sports, music, TV, and movies covered -- and even books, if you can call a "Teen Mom" memoir a book.
We're thankful for celebrities behaving badly, celebrities behaving well, and celebrities making babies. We're thankful for Claire Danes' crying, which unified a divided nation this year. We're thankful for big movie franchises, like "The Hunger Games," and we're very thankful that "Twilight" is over. We're thankful for reality television, well-planned television seasons, killer moments on premium cable television... and we're thankful for Retta from "Parks & Rec" for live-tweeting it all.
Mostly, we're thankful for you, our readers, for your interaction and your comments, and for watching, tweeting, reading, and laughing with us. Check out what our...

With only a couple of days left before Sunday's Emmycast, you've been inundated with predictions of who will win. We gave ours Thursday (Sept. 20), and sites like Gold Derby have been kind enough to gather the opinions of many critics (including Zap2It's own Rick Porter) in a handy grid.
The names on those lists are more or less aligned with what we discussed: "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men," Bryan Cranston, Claire Danes, "Modern Family," and others. But a list you'll rarely see is the group of nominees that definitely won't win.
We're not talking about people and shows that might win or are dark horses. These are nominees that have absolutely no shot, no matter how much they might deserve to bring the prize home. Who are these unfortunate folks?
Merritt Wever. We love her as goofy nurse Zoey on "Nurse Jackie." But the supporting actress in a comedy...

There will be a startling upset in the race for Best Drama Series at the Emmys this Sunday (ABC, 8-11 p.m. Et), according to the experts polled by Gold Derby. "Breaking Bad" will break loose and overtake the category's longtime champ. Up until last week, "Mad Men" was favored to take the top prize for an historic fifth time, but enough pundits have changed their predictions in the Emmy home-stretch to trip up the expectation that "Mad Men" will continue undefeated. Now "Breaking Bad" has 6 of 15 experts betting on its victory: Lynn Elber (Associated Press), Maria Elena Fernandez (Newsweek Daily Beast), Rick Porter (Zap2It), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby) and Ken Tucker (Entertainment Weekly). -Insertgroups:7- "Mad Men" is close behind with five pundits picking it to win: Debra Birnbaum (TV Guide Magazine), John Kubicek (BuddyTV), Daniel Manu (Television Without Pity), Mo Ryan (Huffington Post) and me. Sizing up the race for Best Comedy Series at the Emmys, "Modern Family" looks unbeatable. It never lost the category in the past, winning in 2010 and 2011, and now the experts overwhelmingly favor it to prevail again on Sept. 23. -Insertgroups:3- Twelve of the 13 Emmy pundits polled by Gold Derby predict it will get the last laugh: Mo Ryan (HuffPost TV), Debra Birnbaum and Matt Roush (TV Guide Magazine), Maria Elena Fernandez (Newsweek Daily Beast), Elena Howe (L.A. The race for Best Drama Series is truly the biggest drama looming over the Emmys: Can "Mad Men" set a new record by winning for a fifth time? Five of the 13 Experts polled by Gold Derby predict that it'll prevail again: Mo Ryan (HuffPo TV), Debra Birnbaum (TV Guide Magazine ), John Kubicek (BuddyTV), Daniel Manu (TelevisionWithoutPity) and me. In our prediction center, HBO's "Game Change" gets field-leading 7 to 5 odds to win Best Movie/Miniseries at the Emmys. Next in line is "American Horror Story" with 7 to 2 odds, but is it possible the biggest threat to HBO's political docudrama may be "Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia"? Currently, the modern update of the Arthur Conan Doyle detective classic gets odds of only 5 to 1 to win and is backed by just three of our Experts (John Kubicek, Rick Porter, and Mo Ryan) and 41 users. Though it received only four nominations in 2011 (for the episode "A Study in Pink"), it picked up a surprising 13 nominations this year, one more than "Game Change." Other factors work in "Sherlock's" favor. The detective drama enjoys greater acclaim, scoring 91 on Metacritic, compared to 74 for "Game Change." The opinion of critics doesn't always matter ("Hemingway and Gellhorn"...

In the wake of the tragic passing of Beastie Boys Adam Yauch, we at Zap2it.com thought it only seemed appropriate to pass along some of our favorite memories of the Beastie Boys through the years. Feel free to share your own in the comments below.
"Hold It Now, Hit It" wasn't the band's biggest hit, but the 1986 single from their first album -- and its video -- captures McA (Adam Yauch), Mike D (Michael Diamond) and Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz) and their silly best before they got hip to slick video producers and grew up. The raw talent is there, even if it is hidden by a few layers of goofiness. And, hey, they're having fun and we're all for that. I love it because the Beastie Boys were my first concert. It was 1987 at the Capital Centre in Landover, Md., and because of our proximity to Washington, D.

Giants? Patriots? Eli Manning and Tom Brady? Yeah, they're on our TVs Sunday, but for a sizable portion of the audience watching Super Bowl Xlvi, the commercials are just as big a draw as the game.
Advertisers ponied up as much as $3.5 million per 30-second spot on NBC's broadcast of the game, which will likely draw about 100 million viewers. Did they get their money's worth? Check back throughout the game for Zap2it's running commentary on the worst ads of Super Bowl Sunday.
Bud Light Platinum does not shimmer

But they laid an egg with a commercial that makes the beer with a higher alcohol content look like a science experiment.

Though it was a bitch-less day for ABC when the cast and executives behind the network took the spotlight at the Television Critics Association press event, soon, there's going to be a serious "F" bomb.
Panels for "Gcb" (formerly "Good Christian Bitches") and "Don't Trust the B---- In Apartment 23" (formerly "Don't Trust the Bitch In Apartment 23") yielded a lot of Twitter attention, but the most shocking language came from "Modern Family."
Executive producer told reporters that toddler Lily -- the daughter of Cam and Mitch -- will say, "F---" on the Jan. 18 episode of the Emmy-winning sitcom. Levitan revealed the profanity scoop at a panel, according to a tweet from Louis Peitzman of TV.com. As far as Lily's likely-horrified dads go, Levitan told the crowd: "I kind of dare you to not love Cam and Mitch," according to a tweet from Marisa Roffman of Give Me My Remote.

You've seen our favorite drama episodes of 2011. Now, for the stuff that made us laugh.
As you'll see below, we love us some "Community" and "Parks and Recreation" at Zap2it. But we also found room for episodes of shows that aren't always consistent still capable of being very good. And also "Jersey Shore," which is not strictly a comedy but sure can be funny.
These were our favorite comedic episodes of 2011. What were yours?

"Community" - "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons": There were a lot of great "Community" episodes in 2011, but my personal favorite was when the gang took Fat Neil under their collective wing and played an epic game of Dungeons & Dragons to make him feel included. From the portentous voiceover to Annie's hilarious portrayal of Hector the Well-Endowed, it was a massively fun episode.
"Psych" - "Last Night Gus": Gus and Shawn having adventurous shenanigans...

"Halloween"This movie has acquired a bad rap over the years because of the innumerable sequels and the ill-advised 2007 remake (which was itself followed by a sequel). But go back and watch John Carpenter's 1978 original. It gets gory as all hell before things come to a climax,...
No, we're not trying to reenact the gory opening of "Scream" -- in preparation for Halloween, the Zap2it team is compiling a list of the scariest, funniest, weirdest horror films we hold near and dear. Did all that head-spinning in "The Exorcist" freak you out as a child? What about Jack Nicholson's terrifying turn in "The Shining"? Or perhaps you prefer the kitschy fun of a retro B-movie?

The CW might've canceled "H8R," but irrational celebrity hatred lives on.
Just this week a Dallas news anchor refused to even utter Kim Kardashian's name when discussing her 31st birthday (Oct. 21) on-air because he was so disgusted that she was an actual famous person people care about.
Well, "Good Morning Dallas" anchor Tim Ryan, we understand you all too well. Here at Zap2it, there are plenty of people we dislike so much it hurts to say their names. In honor of your brave stand against inexplicable reality star Kim Kardashian, here are the people whom, much like Voldemort, we can't even mention by name.
Paris HiltonEvery time I re-watch "Veronica Mars," I get to the second episode and become infuriated that Paris Hilton sullied one of my all-time favorite shows. It is grossly unfair that someone so disgusting and stupid has so much money. - Andrea Reiher

The premiere of Fox's The X Factor on Wednesday night was peculiar when it came to the judges' table - featuring segments with both Cheryl Cole and Nicole Scherzinger, even though Scherzinger replaced Cole months ago. Cole, 28, was dismissed from the singing show in May, many weeks after filming began, but the show aired some of her judging anyway during its premiere, giving viewers a chance to compare the two. And some critics are wondering if Simon Cowell made the right choice by switching. "[Cole] just kind of disappears midshow, without much explanation, and suddenly Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls is in her chair.

As a group, the Gold Derby Emmy experts did not foresee many of the upsets at Sunday's show. Ten of our panel predicted 17 of the Primetime Emmy categories and managed to get just 84 out of a possible 170 correct. That is one pick shy of 50 percent. See all of their rankings here. The best of the bunch were Jace Lacob (Daily Beast) and Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby) who each got 11 right. Jace and Melanie McFarland (IMDb), who came in second with 10 correct, were the only two to pick Julie Bowen ("Modern Family") as Best Supporting Comedy Actress. Tied for third with nine apiece were Daniel Manu (TV Without Pity) and Chrissy Le Nguyen (Yahoo! TV) while Tom O'Neil (Gold Derby) and Rick Porter (Zap2It) both picked eight of the Emmy winners. Special mention must be made of the special powers of prognostication of two of our experts. Jill Serjeant (Reuters) wa.

The television academy did a pretty good job at picking its Emmy nominees this year. Will the list of winners be just as satisfying?
We'll find out on Sunday (Sept. 18) when the Emmys air live at 8 p.m. Et/5 Pt on Fox. We have some ideas of our own, though, on how the awards will play out -- and, in our ideal world, how they ought to go. Read on for our predictions, and let us know your own picks in the comments.
Outstanding supporting actress - drama
Will win: Margo Martindale. Martindale's performance as tough hillbilly Mags on "Justified" was a tour-de-force, and she'll win the hardware. She's a first-time nominee, but has been around Hollywood a long time and we think the Emmys will finally give her some recognition. (Though I won't be mad if Michelle Forbes takes it).
Should win: Michelle Forbes. In truth, Martindale also "should" win,...

According to our exclusive Gold Derby statistics, it is an extremely tight Emmy race between Jane Lynch ("Glee") and Betty White ("Hot in Cleveland") for Best Comedy Supporting Actress. Here in the final hours, Lynch holds a very slim lead with 6/5 odds to win her second consecutive Emmy on the same night she hosts the ceremony. -Inserts:25- Lynch took a risk by submitting the somber episode "Funeral," in which her character Sue Sylvester mourns the loss of her Down's Syndrome sister. The actress got an unexpected boost when rival nominee Kristen Wiig entered the "Saturday Night Live" episode hosted by Lynch, giving her a terrific mix of drama and comedy to show to Emmy judges. Lynch is predicted by experts Tim Appelo (The Hollywood Reporter), Frazier Moore (Associated Press), and Rick Porter (Zap2It), nine of 12 editors, and 34% of our users (215 votes). White is already an Emmy legend with...

With the Emmys almost upon us, the predictions are flying fast and furious across the web. On Friday, you'll see who we think will win (and should win) in the major categories.
From the predictions we've seen so far, it seems like "Mad Men" will fend off all challenges to win yet another outstanding drama series award, and "Modern Family" will also repeat in the comedy series category. Jon Hamm will nab an Emmy now that he's out of Bryan Cranston's shadow, Steve Carell will finally win an Emmy for his "Office" swan song, and everyone is rooting for Margo Martindale of "Justified." Most people pick Julianna Margulies of "The Good Wife" to win, as well, though they said the same thing last year, and the drama lead actress award ended up going to Kyra Sedgwick instead.
Here's a sampling of some other Emmy picks from around the web.

"Free Agents" premiered Wednesday night (Sept. 14) on NBC. It tells the story of Hank Azaria's Alex and Kathryn Hahn's Helen, co-workers who hook up but are maybe not quite ready for a new relationship.
Alex is coming off a messy divorce, while Helen is recovering from her fiance's death a year prior. What did you think of the premiere?
As our reviewer Rick Porter points out, it's not a straight comedy. That was much what we liked about the premiere. It actually made us sad in parts, which is the mark of a good show - humor and sadness. We also thought Hahn and Azaria had great chemistry together.
Which is no surprise, considering the mad crushes they had on each other when they signed on to the show.
"I had a big creative crush on her for a long time," says Azaria. "We weren't really looking to...
