To quote Space Ghost himself, "I'll be dead long before you were born, and I'll be dead long before you'll be dead."
In 1994, producer Mike Lazzo donned a pith helmet, filled his arms with machetes, and trekked into the darkest corners of the bleak, terrifying Hanna-Barbera cartoon library. In the depths, he re-discovered a long-forgotten, one-season animated series from 1966 called "Space Ghost," a superhero show about a white-clad, cape-wearing starship captain who fought bud-like villains in the inky void of the cosmos. Space Ghost, voiced by Gary Owens, could pass through walls and oversaw a pair of sidekicks named Jan (Ginny Tyler) and Jace (Tim Matheson) as well as a chimp named Blip (Don Messick).
Like most of Hanna-Barbera's output, "Space Ghost" was strange and awful. 20 years later, reruns of shows like "Space Ghost" were increasingly enjoyed exclusively by college students under the influence of potent smokables. One would be...

With 23 seasons, nine victories and an unquantifiable quantity of schtick under his cowboy hat, Og Voice coach Blake Shelton plopped down in his red swivel chair for the last time Tuesday night to find out whether his team had brought him one more win for the road. And, based on the results of the polls that followed TVLine’s recap of the Top 5’s performances, the sing-off’s Goat would be raising a glass to celebrate rather than drown his sorrows: Grace West had surged to the lead over Team Niall Horan’s Gina Miles.

A Time to Drill: Eubank Delves into Derivative with Studio Sci-Fi
As above, so below seems to be the theme of William Eubank’s third feature, Underwater, a blatant and shameless aquatic themed derivative of Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic Alien, right down to some of the character and crew dynamics. Kristen Stewart (more Susan Powter than Sigourney Weaver) leads a mixed bag of a cast, but delivers a compelling performance despite the film’s penchant for pigeon-holing its characters as a rag tag crew of unhappy researchers who seem to have chosen the watery depths of their occupation merely as a means to escape the trauma they’ve suffered on terra.…...

Melissa McCarthy cuts an imposing figure in her first scene in The Boss and I’m not talking about her plus size physique though we’ll get there in a minute. In the new comedy she’s Michelle Darnell, a mega-successful businesswoman (details are fuzzy on what kind) descending into a stadium on a giant faux phoenix that’s shooting off fireworks. The sound mix is as uniformly deafening as that image is unsubtle so you can’t make out a single word of the rapping, mob chanting, pandemonium that follows. This should be annoying but it comes as a weird relief in this relentlessly politicking season of pandering narcissistic windbags wearing saggy human costumes on TV every night. It’s better to close your ears and laugh at the inanity of the spectacle than really contemplate what they’re...

“Applause” or “Roar”? Edward or Jacob? Whigs or Tories? History has long provided us with pop culture battles rife for debate, but there are some questions that have never even been posed to the general public. Until today.
In honor of the 10-year anniversary of the series finale of Friends, I’d like to propose a question that has been on my mind for roughly that same amount of time. It has to do with the November 2003 episode “The One with Ross’s Grant,” in which Monica and Rachel argue over a horrifying piece of art created by Phoebe.

[Update: Find Stefon's very last club -- sob! -- at the end of the post.]
Here’s what we know about tweaky club kid Stefon Zelesky, by far Bill Hader’s most popular SNL character: He used to write for Smash. His dad is David Bowie. His brother is Ben Affleck (a.k.a. “David”). He lives in a trash can near the Radio Shack on 23rd St. and 7th Ave. He’s in love with Seth Meyers. And he’s got an encyclopedic knowledge of New York’s hottest clubs, from Scampi (“illegally parked behind the Statue of Liberty”) to Spicy (“the creation of club owner/rabbi Jew Diamond Phillips”) to Selfieee! Since the American Music Awards, which aired Sunday on ABC, honor chart-toppers, we decided to work up our rundown of the show’s highlights (and, of course, lowlights, too) in Top 20 format. Ready to read your way to No. 1? Let’s (rock and) roll!
20 | When Maroon 5 won Best Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group, it disproved once and for all the theory that Maroon 5 is just Adam Levine. Or did it?
19 | Jennifer Hudson was so cinched into her dress that she accidentally (inevitably, it seemed) bumped her own boob before announcing that Nicki Minaj had won Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist,...

Well we made it everybody! We're finally in the home stretch of this cycle and it couldn't have come soon enough. As we start tonight's show Lisa is upset about Bre leaving but also adds that Bianca doesn't have a bodyguard anymore.
Alexandria, looking the least fierce I've ever seen her, reminds us that the judges knocked her picture for looking like "a reality TV star" and I'm reminded what a joke that is considering the fact that they are on a reality TV show. They — Tyra included — need to get over themselves and probably shouldn't use that as a way to cut the contestants down, particularly considering who their guest judges have been so far.
Shannon says she thinks the judges want more raunch from her. I think she just needs to stop being boring.
Bianca is pissed that the house is full of cliques because now she doesn't...

The internet: it is so big! When I first started using the internet in the late nineties, my family was somehow always three eons behind whichever version of America Online the rest of my friends were using. So I would sign on, and our modem was about as fast as Dom DeLuise/Paul Prudhomme (Same) in a potato sack race, leaving me with an internet connection so painfully slow that pictures literally didn’t load. All I had was the warm welcome from AOL guy and a handwritten buddy list, from which I would send pre-written Instant Messages to one person after another, hoping that someone would be online at the same time to be on the receiving end. Mr. Joe Cool Guy over here, riiiiight? Fast forward three hundred years, and here I am, a grown adult human being with an apartment, a dog, a blog, a seldom-updated Twitter account,...

“You can’t be lifting up drag queens!” Those seven words from horrified onlooker Manila Luzon pretty much summed up the “Lipsych for Your Life” shenanigans that went down between Mimi Imfurst and India Ferrah on this week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Indeed, Mimi’s shocking decision to forcibly hoist a stunned India over her shoulders — midway through performing Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” no less — provided a violent but entertaining shock paddle to an otherwise flat episode.
The crazy thing is, prior to Mimi’s “lift and conquer” maneuver, it appeared as...

It got ugly on Tuesday's (Feb. 8) episode of "RuPaul's Drag Race" and Ru may soon need to issue a clarification for the queens who are lip-syncing for their lives after yet another physical brawl during the lip-sync battle. It should read, "Gurrrrls, you aren't literally lip-syncing for your lives."
But before we get to that frightening show of un-queenly behavior, let's review how the grapes of wrath fermented during the episode.
In the first mini challenge, the gals had to get "leotarded" and fashion some unique workout wear using colored duct tape. Yes, people, this was only the beginning of the frightening chain of events that led to The Incredible Hulk's appearance in the lip-sync-off. The plus-sized queens were forced to team up when no one else picked them for their teams. It was hard to watch even the skinny gals challenge the laws of physics to get that...

Things are getting real heavy on RuPaul’s Drag Race this season. And that’s mostly because, so far, the show has mostly focused on its three delightful big-girl contestants: Mimi Imfurst, Delta Work, and Stacy Layne Matthews. Not that I’m complaining—at all. That’s certainly been a very good thing. And while the headline to this mini recap of last night’s episode might lead you to believe that a big girl won the competition, those of you who watched know that’s certainly not the case. In fact, not only did a big girl not win the competition,...

Guess who's making sure that they have their drag in gear on Monday's (Feb. 7) episode of "RuPaul's Drag Race"? Work-out queen and "louder than life" motivational guru, Susan Powter.
Of course, who better to help the gals werq it out as they have to create their own work out videos?
Plus, Latoya Jackson, who's been doing drag for what, like forever, will be sitting on the judges' panel this week. We're sure she'll teach those queens something about um, keepin' it real?
Watch a sneak peek below:

Monday, January 24th is going to be huge for fans of RuPaul's Drag Race. Tune into Logo (our parent company) at 8 Pm Est for the show's first-ever casting special, followed by a 90-minute season opener at 9 Pm Est, and then a new season of Untucked returns to the runway at 10:30 Pm Est. Guest judges this season include Lily Tomlin, Vanessa Williams, Johnny Weir, Margaret Cho, Sharon Osbourne, Mike Ruiz, and Susan Powter. I admit i squealed a bit when I saw that last name. Susan Powter! The "Stop the Insanity" lady from the 90's who rocked her Annie Lennox-circa "Missionary Man" look. She disappeared for a while, but came back (and came out) a few years ago.
This was inevitable. That terrorist collective is planning to picket the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards. Erasure has just released a new version...

As a long time fan of Bruce Springsteen, nothing excites me more than a Springsteen media blitz. Whether he’s gabbing with Dave Letterman or crotchsliding his way into our nation’s living rooms during the Super Bowl, my general rule is that I can never have too much Bruce in my life, especially now that the E-Street Band seems to be on hiatus. This week, The Boss released The Promise, an album that consists of 21 outtakes and alternate versions of tracks from his seminal 1977 release, Darkness On The Edge Of Town, which is intended as a companion piece to the recent HBO documentary of the same name. As a means of promoting it, he appeared on both NPR’s Fresh Air and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon yesterday, the latter of which produced a moment of undeniable awesomeness, but also one that has me semi-conflicted. Here’s the moment in question,...

Actress Gabourey Sidibe is set to host "Saturday Night Live" April 24, People.com reports. Sidibe will be joined by indie rockers Mgmt as musical guests. The actress has been under fire from shock jock Howard Stern and fitness guru Susan Powter for her large size. Sidibe already was announced by Showtime as one of the cast members of Laura Linney's new series, "The Big C," as one of the students of a teacher (Linney) living with cancer. The busy thespian is also cast in "Yelling to the Sky" alongside Zoe Kravitz. Whoopi Goldberg expressed her desire to have Gabourey portray her in a biopic. Sidibe had a whirlwind year after her performance in director Lee Daniels' "Precious - Based...
