Director Jonás Cuarón reimagines the terrifying mythical beast as a cute and furry little creature in Netflix’s Chupa. The two-minute trailer for the family-friendly adventure confirms this incredibly adorable baby chupacabra looks nothing like a goat-killing, nightmare-inducing monster.
“I was a small kid when the legend started. When the idea came of turning [the myth] on its head and using it to tell a family adventure, I was immediately excited,” said Cuarón in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “I’ve always been a huge fan of E.T. and believe that stories like that are so powerful because they play on the idea of kids being misunderstood by adults. Chupa might be a monster but he’s the only one that truly understands what Alex is going through. The bond between a boy and a creature is so pure, like with a pet, it transcends language.”

"He'll be our little secret." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for an adventure movie titled Chupa, rated PG even tough it's only going to be streaming on Netflix for its release in April. While visiting his family in Mexico, teenage Alex gains an unlikely companion when he discovers a young chupacabra hiding in his grandpa's shed. In order to save the mythical creature, Alex and his cousins must embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Directed by Jonás, and produced by 26th Street Pictures' Chris Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe, Chupa is a nostalgic journey through myth, memory, and the making of one's own personal legend. This stars Evan Whitten as Alex, along with Demián Bichir, Christian Slater, Ashley Ciarra, Nickolas Verdugo, Adriana Paz,...

Although Netflix’s family adventure Chupa is inspired by the legend of the chupacabra, director Jonás Cuarón was determined to make the creature at the heart of his film much less fearsome than the mythical creature. “Our goal was to create an incredibly cute creature based on a terrifying legend,” said Cuarón in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “The mythical creature was described as a hairless dog with wings and sharp teeth. Chupa is furry and incredibly cute.”
The first photos from Chupa confirm this creature, at least as a youngster, is anything but terrifying.
Cuarón added: “I’ve always been a huge fan of E.T. and believe that stories like that are so powerful because they play on the idea of kids being misunderstood by adults. Chupa might be a monster, but he’s the only one that truly...

Ahead of the release of David Bowie’s long-shelved 2001 LP Toy, Parlophone/Iso Records have shared the album’s unreleased version of “Can’t Help Thinking About Me.”
Like many of the Toy tracks — including the earlier single “Karma Man” — Bowie initially recorded “Can’t Help Thinking About Me” during his pre-Space Oddity era, only to revisit the song in the late-Nineties. The song was originally released as a single in 1966 and all but forgotten by the singer until he surprisingly revived it for his VH1 Storytellers special in August...

Disney Branded Television is developing House of Secrets, an action-adventure fantasy series from Chris Columbus and his 26th Street Pictures partners, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe. Harry Potter and Home Alone filmmaker Columbus co-authored the middle-school book series with the late Ned Vizzini.
The Disney+ project revolves around siblings Brendan, Eleanor and Cordelia Walker, who aren’t pleased when their family relocates to a creepy Victorian house once owned by an occult novelist, Denver Kristoff. By the time the Walkers realize that their new neighbor has sinister plans for them, they’re trapped in the magical house, traveling through the fantastical intertwined universes of Kristoff’s novels.
“Chris, Michael and Mark tell stories that resonate with multiple audiences, across generations and genres that deliver a sense of magic and wonderment through definitional characters,” said Ayo Davis, EVP Creative Development and Strategy at Disney Branded Television, who is overseeing the project.

Eight years ago, Gaz Alazraki’s family comedy became a certified blockbuster, and still ranks as the second highest-grossing Mexican film of all time, behind “Instructions Not Included.” When Netflix was getting into original production outside of the U.S., its first effort was the series “Club of Crows,” created by Alazraki and inspired by his cinema super-hit.
Netflix is co-producing with Alazraki, who produced and directed the original, and Chris Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe from 26th Street Pictures, with whom the streamer has a larger overall deal, which also includes an untitled Chupacabra film with Jonas Cuarón, son and frequent collaborator of Alfonso Cuarón. The movement for an effective childcare infrastructure for workers in the U.K. film and TV industry is taking a major leap forward with the opening of the first dedicated, on-site childcare facility at a U.K. studio.
Variety can reveal that Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, home to the forthcoming “Wonder Woman 1984,” will open a nursery this summer, providing 40-50 places to both Warner Bros. staff and productions shooting at the studio. Crucially, the nursery will hold flexible hours in order to meet the demand of extended production schedules.
The message is simple, according to co-founder and “Peaky Blinders” actor Charlotte Riley: you can’t talk about equality without talking about childcare.
The initiative is driven by the “Press” actor and business partner Mark Radcliffe, who set up creative sector-focused childcare firm WonderWorks, alongside Emily Stillman, VP of Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn will return as Mr. and Mrs. Claus in The Christmas Chronicles 2 on Netflix in 2020.
Zaddy Kurt Russell Santa Claus is coming back! Call it a Christmas (and streaming algorithm analysis) miracle!
Netflix has announced The Christmas Chronicles 2, a sequel to last year's seemingly successful, Russell-starring Christmas film, The Christmas Chronicles. It's set to arrive in time for the 2020 holiday season on Netflix.
Real life married couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn will return as fake life married couple Mr. and Mrs. Claus (even after all these years the poor woman can't get a first name). Chris Columbus will direct the film, as he did for the original. The plot will follow Kate Pierce (Darby Camp) who is now a disillusioned teenager. Kate unexpectedly reconnects with Santa when magical troublemaker Belsnickel (Julian Dennison) threatens to destroy Christmas forever.

Twenty-five years ago, Macaulay Culkin taught the world that a home invasion can result in physical comedy magic and family fun for all. Yes, Home Alone first opened in theaters on Nov. 16, 1990. Of course, Home Alone taught us other lessons too. For example, you can accidentally abandon your child without getting in trouble with Child Protective Services. We learned that a scary old man next door just might be a lonely guy who's handy with a snow shovel. And perhaps most important of all, Home Alone proved you can make a successful movie starring one child actor onscreen alone for...
